- Yes, drifting isn't allowed on the Nurburgring Nordschleife although everybody thinks it is. Officially the Nordschleife is a public toll-road during Touristenfahrten (tourist drives) which means normal track rules & laws apply. That's also why the Police often shows up after a crash. In the wet they don't seem to mind the drifts, but drift when its dry and you will be banned for the day or weekend.

So even though the Nurburgring is a racetrack, during Touristenfahrten (Public driving) normal German road rules and laws apply. Which obviously means drifting is *not* allowed. Been getting a lot of questions so I hope this clears things up :-)

@Sebastian Baez nah bro it's because its leaves rubber on the track which when it rains becomes super slick and can cause potentially fatal accidents especially to all the rookie drivers out there.
TechBear when it rains and you drift you don’t leave rubber only a little. It’s all good to drift and also it wouldn’t be fatal.

Most of these were illegal, intentional drifts, but there were a good amount that were questionable or just accidental loss of control
I would add some of them were intentional drifting, just really fast driving in a car of specific characteristics and enough power to loose rear grip. If you watch how rallying in 70s looked like, you'll get what I mean. We don't see that kind of driving in races because corners on tracks are too long, and tire preservation / temp. is also important.
That white 911 on the other hand overshoot the corner went into natural weight oversteer and just used the throttle for better control. Risky overtake, but technically not a drift. Just recovery and fast driving.

To be fair to the 911 (993), the back ends to have a tendency to let go and pendulum, so that may have been less of a drift and more of a recovery. They’re fun old cars, but also sometimes a challenge to keep in one piece.

Interesting observation I’ve had, in europe the bmws and mercs seem to be the ones to speed down a busy road making as much noise as possible, but here in america they are fairly civilized, I can’t say I’ve even seen one be an annoyance. In USA BMWs and Mercs are driven by daddy's daughters who couldn't handle a Ford Fiesta but daddy treated them at 16, 18 or when they went to college or by "successful" businessmen who want to show off that they don't have to drive crude MURICAN cars but they also can't handle a Fiesta so they all drive like grannies. No some are drifting, power sliding is just turning with brake but drifting is shown in these videos where you turn and then turn opposite pushing throttle and e brake

Drift- start going sideways before the corner.

Most of These are all power slides, a drift would be entering the corner sideways, these guys are exiting the corner & dumping the accelerator.
