I'm a veteran mountaineer and I've been lost in the mountains here in WA. It's a unique brand of sinking feelings. Just grim. Meanwhile It's been rainy and windy here for days. Those guys probably got soaked, wind chilled, and turned around, walking in circles. Cocky overconfidence and brash lack of preparation is how I got lost. Turned around in a dense fog. I imagine the same is true here. Nature provides neither reward nor punishment. Merely consequence. RIP fellas.

The main thing is to get to a lower, warmer elevation and keep marching until you get to a safe, warm place. Once you're sufficiently chilled, neither your hands nor your brain will function properly. Focus on getting down the hill ASAP and Do Not Stop until you get to safety.

The rural county with lots of wilderness to hide a crime in had a higher murder and crime rate. Looks like paradise compared to the city. I wouldn’t hike off of the state and national park trails though and it’s not because I am worried about the wildlife or getting lost… 😅

For example National parks have hundreds of different cameras throughout their boundaries, as well as many of remote secured governmental facilities. Next is the tens of thousands of outfitters from hunting/fishing/camping/drop camps who also utilize hundreds of cameras for big game hunting or look out for grizzly raiding cabins placing cameras throughout the area cause bears like to chew on trail cams. Next is the millions of outdoor enthusiasts who use these tools throughout the country to the farthest most reaches.
No credible proof in some cases is actually the best proof they don't exist other than in tall tales.

Very sad. I have been solo trekking/mountaineering/ in Alaska for a decade in the same mountain ranges and still have some very frightening moments of confusion when navigating. It's actually REALLY easy to get lost without the dramatic features/elevation changes you have here- because your reference points are far less distinct. When I lived in western NC it was a nightmare getting lost, because the terrain was far more planar. My experience hiking in parts of Washington and Oregon were similar. Only takes one wrong move. One. Hunting for cryptids or anything means you're hyper-focused on something other than terrain features/internal mapping. So sad this time of year...😢
