I always feel like a beautiful guitar like that… which made it through all those years deserves to be played by someone who can make it sing like it is capable of singing. You are that guy.
What a perfect guitar. That's a one-and-done guitar.
I've been playing for like 30 years and I don't think I've ever seen anyone do what you did at about 7:52 - where the bass note sustains and feeds back, while still playing clean notes on top without those notes getting messy or also feeding back. I didn't know that was possible. Thank you again professor.
For those about to rock, for those who have always rocked, and for those who will never stop rocking, we salute you! Love you Uncle Larry.
In the immortal words of Wayne and Garth, "SCHWIIIIIIIIIIINNNGGGG!!!!!".
An instrument like this needs a home with an artist like Tom. Good match.
Sounds ACE! The mail person brought good news this time
This is a really nice video, Tom. Townshend is the reason I started playing back in 1980, which made this even better. I really dig it when you go into riff dictionary mode. So many fantastic licks. You're a great, great player, man.
Outstanding. Never short of inspiring.
This is the first unboxing video i have ever been anxious / interested in watching... Did not disappoint..
Thanks for taking us on the unboxing experience. This was so cool and greatly appreciated. Sounds beautiful Tom, you got another good one!
Thank you for your continuous sharing of everything cool…
Wow…unbelievable. This guitar obviously helped emote massive inspiration as you played. It was a gift to us getting to listen and experience it. Thanks so much, Tom!
Love it. This is another great idea for a video. I enjoy learning about vintage instruments with someone as knowledgeable as Unc.
Wow that blew me away, incredible guitar playing.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride, Unc!
After playing guitars for many years you know when you get a good one and I believe sir you have a good one. Loved this unboxing!
Just bought my first vintage guitar last week. A ‘65 SG Jr. that I immediately installed the Music City Savvy on. As soon as I had it dialed in I went right into “Tattoo” 😂
You’ve helped shape my musical life in many profound ways, Tom. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your wisdom with us!
I had to check out the Junior. Sounds great. You got the amp and guitar working together perfectly. I noticed the bridge change did it make any difference in sound.
@@stringlocker it did! A little brighter and more jangly with the Savvy. I’ve been going back and forth between the Savvy and the old Leo Quan badass bridge it came with as I’ve found the badass feels smoother under the fingers with the radius of Jr.
What a beautiful guitar, played by a great artist!
Superb!,,...I must get one...I've been looking for a while now and then saw this vid....love it
Sounds amazing. Awesome tone, even through the phone. Ta for sharing Larry. Cheers 🍻
Wow!!! Now that’s a Happy New/Old Guitar Day! That SG Special sounds fantastic under your fingers! Enjoy!
It’s easy to see when a guitar inspires someone. You really were digging in and flying around on that thing! Congrats! Sounds amazing!!!
Dam, in tears it sounds so beautiful....
❤❤❤making it reign Tom. Beautiful music reigning beautiful music.
Savage guitar playing on a great guitar. You’re the best Larry.
First - tone to die for. Second - seeing you carefully evaluate a guitar was super instructive. Thanks.
Love this show as much as in the early days. What a goldmine of knowledge and the nastiest yet most graceful playing on UA-cam
a real pot of gold for those who seek it! Uncle Larry is the ABSOLUTE and i do mean, ABSOLUTE, man!
Beautiful Guitar, congratulations, Tom!
What a sound! Oh man…l love it!!
Damn Tom! You are the chord guitar Master! Love the SG! Fabulous as always! Digging the fall and loving the football season. Cheers to you.
Toledo raised, and living in Portland OR. Thank you so much for all your pearls of wisdom, guitars and beyond!
Man that thing has a voice to it. Makes me want to track down a good one. Thank you for all you do man. I really appreciate the Forgotten Gear series idea. I'm sure there are a ton of things in your garage that need to be shared. Ebo knows..... 😆
Very Cool, Thankyou. Congrats on Awesome 'New' Guitar, enjoy. Stunning looking and Sounding Guitar and playing as always. All the best, Cheers
Tom, just got back from a gig. Havin a sip to unwind and look what showed up on my feed. Something about you bringing that SG back to life makes me feel hopeful. That beast is BACK! Even if you move it along to another player, it’s back in play. Kudos. Can’t wait to hear you play it.
Congratulations Tom, enjoy your new guitar, it sounds incredible.
Home Run! That thing sounds AMAZING!!! Especially unplugged.
Uncle Larry: Dude, Kick ass! Love everything about this. Congrats on the axe!
Dude that truly is the Live At Leeds axe man. Love that you went to some PT when you tested the neck for clean tones. Also loving all of your licks man. Thank you for taking time to share them.
Damn!! That thing is sick!! Switch in the middle was amazing…even over my phone! She sounds like Live at Leeds!!
Really awesome sounds. I dig
Amazing! Cleans up perfect, like "Sparks" on Live At Leeds. Thanks for tithe in depth look...
I love the getting to know phase of a new to you guitar
great tips on packing a guitar Unc. Nothing barks like those classic specials.
Wo, Uncle Larry. Pairing a little GG4 with TV Dinner is amazing. Thank you brother for the amazing music and channel. Peace.
Damn, that one SPEAKS! Born in '61 just like me. She's a keeper, Buk!
Woow what a cool guitar. It is so clean, and the grain is straight and beautiful.
It definitely brings some angry rock and roll out of our old uncle Larry, and that is cool!!
That's going to sound like heaven ❤️
That guitar is a fire breather! Nice score, it’s a keeper
WOW! Im not in the same room and you hear the magic in that SG. I could see you enjoying your self Tom more than usual. Nice find. 💥
This episode will go down in Homeskoolin' history! I learned way more that how to ship a guitar-
Makes me wanna have one of these P90 SG's now. Since I am a great Fan of Townshend and the Sound of his SG at Woodstock and Live at Leeds. I love how it cleans up with the Volume Poti.
sound so good Tom ! I need one .
That guitar sounds great! Congrats, it's a beaut!
That’s a righteous guitar Tom, thanks for sharing it man!
You did good Uncle Larry, that's a "good-'un" for sure. Extra special props for the section where you got the feedback note while still playing chimey pretty notes on the high strings. Dang!
Very nice new / old guitar Tom. You seem to be happy with it so that's a win !
WOW! Looks and sounds great!
Like like the way it faded leaving the dark fleck pattern of the wood grain. It looks very evenly colored and little signs of heavy use.
Great find my Friend!!!!!!!!
Rock on Larry!
Congratulations! and thanks for blowing me away this morning! Way better than caffeine ........... LOL
Lovin the sound of that Marshall JTM 20!
I grew up during this period. I was fortunate to have had my senses on an assortment of Gibson and Fender instruments. I was always drawn to Gibsons. The feel, sound and smell. I'm sure old guys can remember that smell. It was intoxicating. You make that one sound pretty damn good Tommy.
Neck pickup sounds AMAZING!
Wow that axe has some magic very sweet. Full of mojo big time, good luck with your new awesome Gibson. ✌
Very cool piece indeed !!!
Congrats on your new beauty!
That guitar brings out the beast in you -- amazing.
Dammit man! Congrats Tom,u deserve that axe, look forward to some home skoolin out of that one! Good on ya sir!!!
Hello Tom, you saved my day. What a great guitar and shure, you can play it!!!
Congratulations man!
Sounds amazing! Angus tone! 😊
What a great sounding guitar in your hands!! A magical wand in the hands of the great wizard!!! Now I'm off to check out Tomo's new Les Paul!! Have a great weekend!!
Got a 63 SG special with a bigsby recently and good lord it’s my favorite guitar by such a ridiculous margin. My first proper ‘golden age’ guitar. Pulls notes straight from the soul and I can’t help but feel the power of Zal in it as well. All my research for buying it was done rewatching your special and junior episodes a million times over! Thank you UL 🍻
My dream is to own a Gibson 61Sg. That guitar sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing.
The Session Man’s take on guitar setup is a very welcomed addition to your legacy on the ol’ Tube. Sure, there are tons of “How to Setup your Les Paul Like a Pro!” videos out there, but one by you is AUTHENTIC. Never discount that. Even when you redo what’s been done already, video wise (edit: which you rarely do), you always add real VALUE to the conversation. Cheers, Thanks and Rock On! 🤘🏼
I would absolutely LOVE a series of videos showcasing this type of setup preference on all the different types of guitars, as well as amp settings
😎👍 enjoy your new guitar and have a great weekend!
You’ll Definitely be taking that to your next sessions Tom, it sounds mega, 👍🏻🌞⭐️
Starship Trooper! Dude!
That's a keeper. =)
Magical! Guitar sounds good too
Awesome SG Uncle Larry! Man, I’m reminded of ol’ Leslie West with that resonant midrange sustainnnnn.
Amazing.. watched Tomo’s LP unboxing earlier.. now this SG! Great minds think alike! As a bonus, didn’t have to wait long to see/hear it after it’s been Bukovized!! Nice pick, Tommy (was hoping you’d throw a little Angus at us, though)!!!
stunning wood grain. Delightful.
Fresh outta the box! Cheers Tom!!
Love it man. I had one just like this…. Miss it now
That is beautiful! My first real gutiar was a '62 special that I got in 1970. Other guys in different bands thougt it was a piece of crap until they heard it...they were all into shiny hubuckers that were so popular at the time. Some folks did not know what those pickups were!
Damn! P90 greatness, and sweet playing as always Tom!
It’s got great micro-phonics. The way it swells slowly in a pleasant way. Sweet guitar
If you never play it again! Was worth it! Amazing playing!! LARRY! DANG SON!
You hit on one of the coolest aspects of learning to play guitar or a new lick when you said "I'll go to sleep and see if I can play it tomorrow". The first few times that happened to me it felt like magic. Practice and practice a lick and it just doesn't stick. The next day I i pick up the guitar and the lick is there, its crazy.
Killer!! Thank you so much for sharing!
I was so blown away I only realised at the 12min mark that you were playing the little new JTM studio 😂.
Man that tone! OMG 😍👌
What a treat of an episode!
Have inspired me to take down my LP Special from Gumtree
Hey Tom, looks like your percentage of picking winners keeps getting better, very nice purchase....Bravo and Cheers!!!
Such a Great Guitar played by a Great Human.
Jesus, that thing sounds amazing. 😮
Great content!
Dang.
That is one thrilling sounding instrument. Sometimes it’s hard to believe it’s just your iddy biddy iPhone grabbin’ all that rock n’ roll ear candy you lay down for us Homeskoolers.
Just unpacked one today also that was packed up like a tin a sardines. Took me 30 min to get to it but it was in perfect shape. Love it when it’s all good. SG sounds killer.
Nicely done.
I for one enjoyed this. As long as they are not the focus, throwing in an unopening is awesome. We get to see what the Pro's look for in sight unseen stuff!
Uncle Larry getting something that speaks to him... rejoice home schoolers, class in session! Thanks undisclosed producer friend!
Unboxing videos are not silly when you pull out a 61 Gibson SG special. Unboxing videos are silly when the host takes a half an hour to unbox a budget guitar from Amazon.
Hahaaaa
You have single-handedly made unboxing videos respectable. You have raised the standard. You have actually raised the bar for all other channels
The ones that kill me are when they unbox it after a half hour and never even play it!! Like WTF man!!! It’s all about what kind of sound the thing makes ain’t it ?
I guess it's psychological it's kind of like Christmas. Because they are popular for some reason.
Haha!
