- The great Elio Pace and his brilliant band with a supreme version of a very early Drifters track from the 50's, 'Fools Fall In Love' live on 'Weekend Wogan' BBC Radio 2 on Sunday, December 5th 2010.
Gorgeous backing vocal and brass arrangement by Elio and masterfully performed by everyone. Terry sums it up for me "the best house band in the world" - couldn't agree more. The incredible variety and quality that Elio and his band display week after week LIVE on 'Weekend Wogan' and where he finds these pearls of songs that he does, is beyond me. Great songs that no-one hears, let alone performs anymore. Staggering effort all year and one that I'm sure hasn't gone unnoticed by millions of music lovers all over the world.
Elio Pace has brought a uniqueness to the airwaves and has reminded us that not all the best music is necessarily the most popular.
A shame though that the BBC stopped filming 'Weekend Wogan' after the October 3rd opening show at the London Palladium. Hence why this is only the second video clip from this 3rd series. I will at some point upload the audio from many more of Elio's magnificent performances this year.

I love this rendition of this song. Such a great voice and high energy. Fabulous!
Awesome to me 12 years later, never heard of Elio Pace, but glad I found him!
Indeed! (I'm "in the biz" and still haven't known of him, I'm embarrassed to confess.) What a splendid professional performer. 🤩😍😯🧐
Elio and his 3 lovely back up singers and fantastic band nailed it.
The tall girl in the backing singers is pure gorgeous .
...and even moreso when she and the other two, took their eyes away from that fuckahktah sheet of paper and gave the audience a smile.Tight band - great stuff!....🎵🙏
I'll always love The Drifters version but I really like this one!! He's great!!!
What about Elvis' ????? ;)
One of the few Remakes that's as good as the original. Back up gals are terrific😅
Not a big fan of remakes, but Elio's on top of his game!
A fantastic cover
I Really like that..
My brother sang this At my wedding and nailed it!!!!!!!!!
I think i've played this number 20 times in the last 24 hours.......lol
Wogan said it:The best houseband in the world!!!' Im so impressed! What a guy and a fantastic band!
This is the DEFINITIVE cover of the Drifters' standard...Elio has a brand new fan...I hope he thinks about touring the U.S...
Did you hear Elvis' version?:)
I’ve heard Elvis’ version (which is very similar but not as energetic) and several others, and agree with Mark on this one. The melody is a partially borrowed one of Harry Warren (from a song he wrote in 1940), so that detracts ever so slightly, but not from this stellar performance of this later song.
Yup.
@@harrywarrenfan I agree. This arrangement (which is the same as the Drifters' original) is better than the Presley arrangement.
What is the name of the Harry Warren song you refer to?
@@genemars5158 the chorus of “Fifth Avenue,” which was sung by Shirley Temple, Jack Oakie, and Charlotte Greenwood in the 1940 film “Young People.” The melody was first written in 1936 and used as a background instrumental cue in several Warner Brothers films. It was first titled “Original” and later known as “Come Up Smiling.” I will add that the melody for this Warren work and the song Elio is performing here are not identical, but there is enough similarity to Harry’s melody in the beginning that he (or his heirs) could have claimed copyright infringement on the melody.
The Drifters version is incredible but this is mind-blowing . Thanks for the post.
I think Fools Fall in Love is the Drifters' best song ever, and this is a really nice cover of it.
@@genemars5158 I couldn’t agree more. Pace stays true to the original arrangement because it can’t be improved. Johnny Moore would approve, I believe.
There hot fantastic the sound terrific
What a tribute to Johnny Moore! Love it!!
Seriously? Who is Johnny Moore?
Well, you could google him under the Drifters. He was their lead singer on this hit, and Pace is singing the song in Moore’s style. He died the end of 1998.
At least he's not one of the Brits who rendered the song without making it musical enough to get any notice at all in the USA. The Jacky Ward version is just embarrassing. You're right, this Elio Pace is a substantial talent everybody should know about! 🤩
@@JD-ku6vd "he" being not Pace but Moore? What of Jacky Ward? I know, google him! 😂
@@donnyyork2149 Yes, he being Moore. On YT go to Radio Wollaton and bring up The Drifters “Fools Fall In Love.” That’s the wonderful Johnny Moore in stereo!
Great song great version. Elio Pace and company really swing!
Great song! Great rendition 👏👏👏👏👏
My! This man and his band are great.
Solid Ted, enough said.
Love this version of the song by the Drifters.
Great 💚real swing. Thanks.
You are swinging this...HOT!
This guy's GREAT! I adore Jacky Ward, but this man does an incredible job! It's 2021, and yet I never heard it till two days ago! It's cool, I'm old now and can get it!😉
I'd never heard of him OR Jacky Ward, but the latter's version isn't musical at all compared to this.
@@donnyyork2149 Jacky Ward's version isn't as upbeat but more romantic imo 💕
Love this version is fun
Loving this style!
Elio Pace and his band knock Jules Holland's shower into the scenery. Neil Fairclough is one of the finest and most versatile bass players on the circuit.

Love this drifters song
...Lieber & Stoller song! 🤑
No idea why I wrote drifters
Well, fools fall in love in a hurry
Fools give their hearts much too soon
Just play them two bars of Stardust
Just hang out one silly moon, oh, oh
And they've got their love torches burning
When they should be playing it cool
I used to laugh, but now I understand
Shake the hand of a brand-new fool
Well, fools fall in love just like schoolgirls
Blinded by rose-coloured dreams
They build their castles on wishes
With only rainbows for beams, oh, oh
They're making plans for the future
When they should be right back in school
I used to laugh, but now I understand
Shake the hand of a brand-new fool
Oh-oh, and they're making plans for the future
When they should be right back in school
I used to laugh, but now I understand
Shake the hand of a brand-new fool
Who the F*** is this. Whomever it is, it's amazing. More please. Raymondo.
