Ear Bonez Sessions presents Mirabelle Skipworth, accompanied by Cody Piper on keys, performing her original song "The Deer Song" at Ear Bonez Studio just outside of Athens, GA.
Mirabelle Skipworth is an alt-folk singer-songwriter from Pittsburgh PA. Her folk-inspired melodies and lyrics, combined with a tinge of alt-rock influence, make for a dynamic, emotionally intense experience. She occasionally draws on her own experiences, books, concepts, and other people’s stories. Her new EP, The Morning’s Malaise, was released in March 2023, and her newest single, The Deer Song, was released on January 5th.

About The Deer Song:
I was coming home really late from some musical event. I think it was around midnight… so I was quite sleepy. I step out of my car, and there is this dark figure standing in the driveway. I couldn’t quite make it out at first, so I was a bit frightened. But I quickly realized it was a deer! And it, too, seemed frightened. We remained frozen there for a solid minute or so (staring at each other). I clicked the lock button on my car keys again so I could get it to move without approaching it and scaring it too bad. It then ran away, and I saw it hop into the dark distance!
For some reason, maybe because of how sleepy I was, this particular moment felt kinda magical. When writing the song I knew I wanted to capture that particular feeling I felt. Somewhere between mystical and a little frightened. But at the same time… really beautiful in its simplicity (it was just a deer, after all).
