as someone whos watched like 5 whole brotato vods on youtube without knowing anything about the game at all, this was incredibly interesting to watch!! these kind of long commentaries are an absolute joy to watch so it would be amazing to see anything like it in the future, thank you for the great content jorbs a patreon for this kind of content would be really great and id totally support it!!
I did some extensive spreadsheeting on Thief Daggers to determine how to maximize material gain, since it is not immediately obvious whether it is better to always ensure you have 6 daggers (therefore getting a +15% crit bonus) or to upgrade as far as possible. Conclusions: - get your first dagger up to Tier 4 as quickly as possible. The material gain jump from Tier 3 to Tier 4 is the strongest. - fill up the other slots with as many low tier Thief Daggers as you can, as these each give a +3% crit bonus to your Tier 4 while not stealing many kills due to the lower damage (example: 1 Tier 4 dagger + 1 Tier 3 dagger is WORSE for material gain than 1 Tier 4 dagger + 1 Tier 1 dagger, because the Tier 3 dagger steals too many kills) - whenever you have enough daggers to make another Tier 4, always do it Sidenote: what is best for average material gain might not be best for actually killing things.
I live on the alien planet in The Abyss in the Abyssal Terrors DLC. My name is Fisher Bateman. I'm 19 months old. I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing my Baits. I can do 1000 now.
I gotta link this video every time I take range on Melee or buy unique items to get them out of the pool when the downside doesnt matter/isn't impactful, especially for Torture. Then again it can be said every time and not a lot changes xd gz on the 1k, that's huge. So next up reset shop wave 2 until fish hook lock into a wave 4 mirror + instantly Cursed Spyglass :p?
at the 1:26:00 mark Jorbs speaks about the max possible result if the shops (and dropped chests) rolled optimally. There's a mod that allows buying any possible item in the shop (just a big list of all items that could spawn), so this would be at least partly testable. Unfortunately it's a bit bugged and you can exceed item caps, so you'd have to do a bit of work to ensure you don't buy repeats of unique items. Even then, it's totally broken: you can wait until wave 3 when maximally cursed coupons are -20% item price for +2 curse, buy 5, and have all items cost 1 for the rest of the run. Then buy a maximally cursed piggy bank (at that time it's +6 curse, +80% of materials at the start of waves), and it gets ridiculous from there. I tested and easily got 1k baits by wave 10, without using the mod's "mass buy" to buy more than one bait without rerolling or buying 3 other items (rerolls with 0 items in shop are free). And I wasn't even really optimizing it. With perfectly lucky rerolls & drops it's probably possible to hit 1k baits by wave 7-8 or so. Ridiculously unlikely though!
After having watched the video, I really have to say that I like this format and I'm happy to watch a lot more of it. I would also be more interested in a pattern than in a twitch subscription.
Just leaving a comment to say that I'd love more videos like these, especially about videogame strategy but I listen to some of your other videos about social issues too. Your spireside chats and overexplained spire runs were how your channel caught my interest in the first place! I'd happily support a patreon for more of these
2 hour video about Brotato? From Jorbs?! Hell yeah! Edit: Also, feel free to do what's most comfortable/economically feasible for you! I personally love the PowerPoint-style stuff (though I recognize that not everyone does), and if you enjoy making them and it's not too much additional work on top of streaming, a Patreon could be a great way to make up the difference.
I really enjoy these videos! Honestly depends on the price of the patreon for me (I'm a uni student), but I love these essay type videos. Gives me something long form to watch that engages my brain in a different way that slay the spire does
I Don't usually comment, but I'd love to see more long form content like this, and would love to support you directly for more. Thanks for everything you do.
Thanks for this! Love Brotato, was shocked when I saw your Discord announcement about this run, was great to see it unpacked. Still hard to wrap my head around how you survived the early waves. Anyway, I'd definitely be interested in contributing to a Patreon for more videos like this.
25:30 One thing that took me too long to realize in this game is that playing better (movement, etc) has such a HUGE advantage over just getting good shops and thinking through your purchases. There really is such a huge advantage to not getting hit. It sounds silly in retrospect. Also, one pair of scissors, two pairs of scissors. You have multiple pairs.
Just commenting to say that I noticed it as well. I think it happened with the previous 'video essay'-style video he uploaded as well. Although I haven't heard it on the streams/stream VoDs.
Scissors is such a good pick for this run esp for this challenge. When I was first trying to beat fisherman I was starting with either spears or sticks, stick because it was a cheap way to ramp up damage extremely fast and the +hp tag made surviving earlier easier, and spear because I thought a long range melee weapon was a good idea to kill dudes before they could hit me.
I think it might go ‘Pair of Scissors, Quad of Scissors, Sextet of Scissors, Octet of Scissors, Dectet of scissors… A Dozen Scissors? I don’t actually know but I do think you technically have a dozen scissors at the end there with the classic six Brotato weapons
I’m not a Patreon type of guy, but I like what you do. I wouldn’t be able to support much, but if it keeps you making high quality content, then I’m in on the idea for sure!
I absolutely live for multi-hour Jorbs UA-cam videos, especially the power point ones. This one was a ton of fun to watch - even when you just chatted while spamming the shop and not quite doing the math. I really liked the analysis/actual run combo. If Patreon would give you a way to make more of these I would definitely be on that. (and I'm making my first UA-cam comment ever to say so)
Not sure if I’m doing it as you intended but joined your existing patreon to show support for the PowerPoint type videos. Even if it’s still not financially viable I’m happy to pay for all the content I’ve gotten for free til now. P.S. thanks for teaching me how to analyze!
I would absolutely support a patreon to have more youtube based semi-longform content! I don’t get to catch streams as often and also it’s always interesting to hear your full analysis in ways you don’t always get to explore on stream
These long form powerpoint-Jorbs videos are some of my favorite on youtube. I would 100% support you on patreon or similar if it means you keep making them !
Your long form powerpoint style videos are my favorite content that you make. I still love the Spire runs and Frosthaven has been a blast, but these really hit different in the best way.
The first two hours were entertaining and educational and very worth my time watching. But at 2:02:22 there's a Zephyr which is even better, still! (For what it's worth I would pay for a Patreon for more of these but right now I still don't have a job so cannot commit to doing so until that changes. It's why I had to stop backing the bedtime one.)
RE: Making these longer power-point videos. I don't watch all of them, but I do enjoy them on occasion. I tend to watch them in chunks, or click through them (Like on the magic drama video).
I love the power point videos, but only because they are spontaneous and come from an obvious passion about the thing you want to talk about, creating an incentive to do them regularly will lead to you trying to come up with topics first, which will lead to the vides being less intersting both for you to make and for us to watch
A lot of the math cancels out when calculating how much you're saving when buying non-bait items to get a free reroll, and the end result is extremely clean. Every non-Bait item you buy gets you 1/4th of a Bait. So in Wave 19, when you got up to rerolls costing 92, it was correct to have bought anything that cost less than 23. The only tiny nuance is that locking an item just under that threshold means you have 1 less slot to roll something significantly under that threshold. So maybe you wanted to lock/buy everything under 21 on a fresh roll, under 22 when you had 2 baits locked, and under 23 when your shop was 3 baits and another item. (I didn't do the math for how many cheap items exist.)
The equation for the marginal costs are [3 rerolls = 4 Baits] and [3 non-Bait items purchased = 1 Bait]. Another way to look at it is you've got two completely separate streams for acquiring Baits. One is through rerolls, and the other is by buying any 3 non-Bait items. Ideally, you want the marginal cost of both to be the same.
I enjoy the PowerPoint vids. Twitch mobile sucks, so it's nice to have more jorbs content that I can watch on my phone, especially while I don't have a laptop.
Really cool stuff, jorb. I really like "Powerpoints with Jorbs." And would (and have) watch most of them but i don't know at this moment if I'd have ~$5 for patreon. Actually, I'd move my twitch sub money to that if it meant more of this since I can't catch you live these days. Do what makes you happy/sane and earns you a living and I'll probably watch it.
Math time! A baseline of using 3 paid-for re-rolls to get 4 Bait is 0.75 rerolls used/Bait. If you buy 1 other item, you get 3 Bait using 2 paid-for re-rolls rather than 2..25, saving 1/4 of a reroll. If you buy 2 other items, you get 2 Bait using 1 paid-for re-roll rather than 1.5, saving an additional 1/4 of a reroll. Basically, it's worth losing up to 1/4 your final reroll cost for that Shop phase to buy an extra useless item.
The misconception about range on melee weaponsled to a lot of unnecessary losses for me. Once i started taking some range on my melee weapons, my win rate went up dramatically.
Impressive achievement, congratulations! So as you brought the topic up yourself, are you going to continue your frosthaven campaign? I miss that one a lot.
Very awesome video! With all this limit testing on the character, I'm curious if this exercise left you with any new beliefs/theories about how to win normal runs with fisherman.
Would it have been worth it to combine some of the daggers sitting in your inventory for a higher chance for materials, like instead of 6 level 2 daggers you'd have 1 level four and 1 level three dagger with somewhat higher material gain in exchange for less damage?
Separate weapons can kill more enemies, which is probably the tradeoff here. Getting 80% of 20 would be less than 50% of 35. Enemies also still drop mats normally, which you'd get fewer of. Survivability is also important, those crits are driving a lot of the sustain and leaving some more alive would generally mean you get hit more. No idea how it would work in practice though, maybe range is high enough that the reduced kill-count is fine.
i think if you had a bit more speed before you capped it you might have gotten a good amount of more kills on the map before the enemies despawned cause of their numbers, but not 100 % about that
Every time I see Jorbs' slides in my feed I know it's going to be a worthwhile talk, but also that I'm probably going to learn something disheartening about the world. It's causing that template to produce an emotional response even before I see the content. There was a bit of a mental disorientation when I realized this is Brotato content.
2k might be possible, but is an extra hour of rerolling worth it? I guess it depends on how much fun the rest of it is for you. Also you were hovering sunken bell for a while in the stream, wouldn't that have killed the bosses even without a weapon(I'm guessing that's what you were discussing while hovering over it)?
I do think you should just make these kinds of videos when it is a topic you care enough about to do so, but also I'd consider supporting a patreon. May or may not be helpful to your decision 😅
Didn't you have patreon way back? I have never subscribed on twitch, not a huge twitch user, but I remember subscribing to your patreon back when the life was more stable and prosperous

Who else this gonna watch this completely without having watched a single minute of Brotato
Me
Guilty - listen to it at least
Yo
Never played or watched this game in my life but this was perfect falling asleep material for me last night! 😊
I.. wasn't expecting this format of Brotato in a million years. You're a mad lad and I'll be here for it.

"there's 50 minutes of this game left, it's all menuing, I'm going to go feed my cat" DYING!
This is one of the most amazing concepts for a video and I'm hyped to watch it

please more main channel brotato vids jorbs they’re so good
Enjoyed the heck out of this analysis video, thanks!
really weird audio issue with the occasional reverb. Love the vid regardless

I wonder if past Jorbs knew something he skipped 3 common thief daggers instead of fusing
I watched a good chunk of the stream and it was a seriously good time. Well done!
what a wonderful and interesting challenge and enjoyable video. very nice job, jorbs.

They were wonderful streams to keep the anxiety at bay while packing to move. Thanks for the hours of fishing, Jorbs!
One of my favorite things about the Brotato DLC was knowing there would be more jorbs videos
A good Jorbs power point video is a high point of the week. Would gladly support.
YOO MORE POWERPOINT JORBS

I enjoy the PowerPoint vids. Twitch mobile sucks, so it's nice to have more jorbs content that I can watch on my phone, especially while I don't have a laptop.
This was a cool video and it made me want to play more Brotato.
Really enjoyed this content!
really cool challenge run! would love to see more like this.
I count 1216, congratulations on the record! And I enjoyed the fun stream and PowerPoint!

A true Master Baiter! Congrats!
We love jorbs high effort content
The video not ending with “And that is how I became a master baiter” is a travesty.
Math time!

love it, watched in full. needs more MATH.
Finally got around to finishing the video: I would support a patreon.
you've been lowkey getting me interested intot his game. Might check it out next time its on sale
Impressive achievement, congratulations!
So as you brought the topic up yourself, are you going to continue your frosthaven campaign? I miss that one a lot.
Enjoyed the video, would enjoy more content of this style if you choose to make them!
I like these sorts of videos ^.^
Well that was a lot of fun! Any other game breaking ideas for brotato?
1:29:18 Very surprised you recycled Kraken's Eye here, just seems like a lot of VERY cheap curse
it kills enemies without thief daggers getting to crit them; massive -econ.
@@Jorbs Aaah, that makes sense, thanks for the explanation.
He took The Bait!
And so did I by watching a two hour video 😊
I enjoy jorbs tangents
Very awesome video! With all this limit testing on the character, I'm curious if this exercise left you with any new beliefs/theories about how to win normal runs with fisherman.
The crucial mirror was generated by treasure map since you still have 4 crates after passing riposte.
I think the correct plural of scissors is actually scissorpodes.
PATREON BOI
One pair of scissors. Multiple pair*s* of scissors.
Would it have been worth it to combine some of the daggers sitting in your inventory for a higher chance for materials, like instead of 6 level 2 daggers you'd have 1 level four and 1 level three dagger with somewhat higher material gain in exchange for less damage?

i would support a patreon to get more videos like these!
Didn't really discuss why you stopped buying thief daggers on wave 12 - rolled past red and blue ones
Gamer (aspirational)
I would support a jorbs powerpoint patreon
From my experience, stick, spear, plank or shredder is better choice of starting…
is your experience based on buying 7 baits on wave 2?
@Jorbs stick plank 7 is ok
Spear too expensive; shredder weapon number are too important. so usually 5 or 6
what happens is that scissors are just as capable or more of beating wave 2 with 3 scissors and 7 baits, and then you rapidly reach a point where the extra stats on the other weapons are much less relevant than the huge amount of lifesteal on scissors + them having precise tag to more easily swap to thief daggers.
all the other weapons very quickly reach a point where their low attack speed and no life steal make it much harder to survive than it would be with high attack speed and 40% life steal.
I've been enjoying the Frosthaven series, but I'm not sure these ('powerpoint') videos are really getting pulled up by the algorith for me, at least, not on topics that I find interesting enough to have on in the background for 2+ hours (when I'm probably meant to be working), so I'd really leave it in your hands. If you enjoy doing the odd video now and then, I'll continue to enjoy watching/listening to the odd video now and then. If you decide it's not worth the faff (however minimal), that's entirely fair, and I'll probably just assume the algorithm's being the algorithm (if I consciously notice at all).
Am I crazy or is there a sort of echo going on?
Yes.
i would defo put some money into the petreon for more longform yt vids :)
