I wish you will do a video on Solar Panels Brands i am seeking an reliable solar panel that will work for a long long time (30-60 years without warranty is wishful but it would be interesting to know what is the closest to that) I am also interested in mixed off the grid Power with 50% solar 50% air/wind power that will power an 500w-3000w for 120days-20days and if that would be more then $100000 manually/DIY built).

P.S. I am in Romania so i do not have access to that many options and also wildly different prices but if it can be done somewhere it must be a solution for me, also do you know any good Hiking Solar Panels with maybe an small Tesla battery pack, it needs to be light weight and foldable, but to also have enough power so you can fully charge your battery in a few hours, and that battery to power the night lights and maybe a laptop and phone charges for that night maybe?

Thanks for your great videos. I took at 12v car radiator fan I got from an auto salvage lot, and built a simple mount out of plywood to attach to my attic gable vent to pull hot air out of my attic. I put a 12v Grape Solar 100watt panel on the roof and it drives the fan directly. The sun comes up, the fan powers up - the more sun, the faster it goes, nighttime, no power - perfect. It's been running this way for over a year. All-in I paid just under $100 for the whole thing.

I kind of figured that sooner or later you would cross over into stuff I was doing in 2004. I was running around and camping in National Forests in the midwest with 2 marine panels and a Morningstar SunGuard charge controller. I actually wound up in Palo Alto for a while slapping the panels on a couple of roofs while there. Everything Will is saying about the merits of portable power are dead on. I'd be as careful as he is too. It isn't a good idea to charge camera batteries with hot leads like I did. But, one thing that worked well for me was jump starting my subcompact with a panel on an interstate once. DC to DC, so efficient :-)

Finally. I’m new to solar and I want to make a solar pool heater. I want to go from the solar panel and go straight to the 12 v pump. This is the information I’ve been looking for because I was wondering about the voltage going to high and cooking my pump. Adding the converter will solve any issues. When the sun ☀️ is up the pool heater will be on.👍

Not yet but still thinking about it. I’m a bit undecided on how to make the collector’s. My pump is a new 12 water pump for a Toyota Prius. It moves a lot of water , maybe to much. At the end of a sunny day, do you get the same BTU’s with a high flow rate vs a slow flow.

Hi will thanx for the double sweet videos, im very fortunate to have mark lee that owns 10 companies in china and 15 in japan, so i always look at your vids and do my own experiments, im from south afrika were the locals cant afford expensave croceries, one nice conversion i did was to rip out a 220 v compressor out a old fridge and replace with a 12v/24v compressor. Got 55 hours on a gell 200 ah bat, only batt no solar panel connected, at 12 v uses 5 amps a hour, on 24v 2,5 amps.

Do yourself a 2019 favor and lay your reciepts flat and organize them into month by month envelopes. Although it takes time, I also put at the top the topic of the receipt. I also make sure I buy "road and vehicle" items on a separate receipt from food, personal items, etc. Sometimes it upsets those behind me to buy in multiple batches. Oh well, it also helps to organize your purchases when loading into your vehicle. The digital notes for the purchase can be more clearly marked, too. The only problem I have had at wally-world is to find multiple receipts to show to the "exit greeter".

I used this method to charge my drone batteries while camping without needing to lug a heavy battery around. I’m not sure how small a panel I can get away with though. It works fine with 100w panel. I’d like to get that down to about 25w for weight and size. I’m sure there is some math that would tell me the minimum size I can get away with.

I've wondered about this a long time. Would it work if I had 4 300 watt panels on roof and then run wires to wear they are needed? DC means very thick wires if it is long cable, DC doesn't like to run long distances in small wires... could over heat and fire also if wires aren't thick enough to handle the push

I'd like to go off the reservation here and recommend two books for you that have nothing whatsoever to do with anything in your videos. However having recently come across your channel and watched many of your videos I get a sense you might like reading these two books as you seem to be a curious person of varied interests. Although I do realize that gamers/techno guys are accustomed to something a bit more frenzied than the sedate practice of reading books of introspection/philosophical themes. Nevertheless, I have a sense that after reading these two books, you will be glad you did. Both books can be obtained for free from the local library. The first book is: Zen in the Art of Archery. The second recommendation is: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintanence. I hope you read this post, and it peaks your interest.. 😎

Thanks for this video; I feel so dumb! My small solar panel puts out 24V 1.12A & I was confused when it wouldn't run a small light bulb (not led) directly. As soon as I connected the light, the voltage would drop and nothing happened (no light). This was inconceivable to me because in my mind this panel is putting out a constant 24v and even with only 1 amp, the bulb should have produced some light when connected directly to the panel output.

You can connect a fan or a pump directly to a panel, given that the fan can handle the max output of the panel. Fans and pumps can handle varying loads, they just go faster or slow down. However, electronics are different. This is playing with fire.

Why not use 12 volt solar panels instead of 24 volt panels and eliminate the need for the 24 volt to 12 volt converter? And, instead of using a converter, use a buck voltage regulator (available on Amazon) wired to the positive and negative wires of your 12 volt solar panel to prevent voltage fluctuation above 12 or 14 volts. For example, some 12 volt, 100 watt solar panels purportedly can produce as high as 17.5 volts instead of 12 volts. This voltage fluctuation would probably shorten the lifespan or eventually damage a device such as a 12 volt, direct current fan motor or a 12 volt water pump. Did you plug the laptop adapter or you were using just the charger jack pin

You can buy solar stuff at hobby stores? Do you have any examples? Like a Michael's or Hobby Lobby? I've been trying to find cables and controllers locally, and having a hard time...

Can you explain if the DC-DC converter must be isolated. It's difficult to identify if a converter is isolated.

I have a 50w solar panel on my car roof, powering a 12 volt cooling fan in the window, Florida hot sun. I tried without a converter and battery setup. Solar panel puts out 21 volts. Saw how to use a (buck converter) to step down to 12 volts for the fan. worked perfectly until I noticed My door locks were going all wonky on my 2015 Rav4. some radio interference????? worked perfectly except for that. Now my cheap solar converter battery settup keeps dropping the solar connection. it may be damaged.?? I put an adjustable thermostat in line to turn on off. Buck converter was perfect and simple except for the door lock interference.

I have a 100W panel and i am hoping to run a 40W fountain pump with it. But I guess I'll need sine wave in the output to make it work. How can i do this without a battery? Thank you

This might be exactly what I am looking for. Thinking of buying a bunch of cheap 50 dollar 250 watt solar panels to power an AC during the day, but I don't want to waste money on a battery. Might try something like this out while running the AC at max during the day to save me a few hundred dollars during the summer. Would also be great for charging my phone and laptop without using utilities.(Approaching 50 cents per kilowatt hour in California)
