Good to see an honest review based on real world use and not an afternoon test drive on selected terrain. The "little" Jimny is what it is.

Great review, and agree with all of what was said. I picked ours up last month and have just reached the 1500 mile mark too and it really is a great car; we recently drove from Edinburgh to Kinnloch Rannock and I was really impressed by its on road performance as I was concerned that it would be too "agricultural" but I think Suzuki have done a good job in refining it. I agree that it really needs a 6th gear although I tend to sit at 65mph with the cruise control on and relax! The water "gurgling" in the roof channels is a bit odd; I thought it was perhaps draining through the pillars but I can't see any drain holes so the mystery continues.....
The number of people who have come up for a look/chat over the last month has surprised me; Suzuki really seem to have nailed the styling!

Hi Tim, good to hear from a fellow driver. I agree, it's quite liveable on the open road though it gets pretty nervy In high winds ( should probably have mentioned it on film ) . Yes I've had a few folk pull out phones in the street and when passing me. All good fun. A

I really like the new Jimny. Problem, I bought a first generation Rav4, for 4,500 Euro that takes me anywhere and with 20 Years old is very dependable. So, when the Toyota dies, maybe in another 10 years. I will get a second-hand new Jimny , if there is any. Well done to Suzuki for keeping a Pure Off-Roader!.

Same here, I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara, 2006 and 2016 model. I could get rid of one, but they are so reliable and can get to everywhere in more comfort than the Jimny. I am trying to find a good 4x4 club, that would convince me to buy the Jimny and sell the 2006 GV.

Beautiful landscape/wildlife and good honest review. My neighbour had a test drive booked 18 Dec 2018 so I went along with him and he test drove same colour as yours but auto box and the top model spec. I/we were really impressed,we drove down in his 2015 land Rover defender so the 1st thing I noticed was how quiet/smooth it was in comparison. On our return to the garage he was hooked and straight away said he would order one and this is where I/he thought it was all a bit strange. It's been along time since I bought a new/new car and couldn't believe that they couldn't give him an actual price (He ordered top spec auto) couldn't choose any options, not that it really needs any as it comes pretty loaded ,couldn't choose a colour only specify which ones he really/really didn't want,No indication when it would arrive just when they get one does he want it or not. Since 18th Dec he has heard nothing, not a phone call an email, not even one to say thank you for the order. I'm pretty sure he said when we talked last that he actually made sure the deposit of £500 had been deducted because he thought maybe he wasn't actually registered. Pretty shocking in that department however It's a lovely small car and had to hold myself back as I was really tempted myself. Friend of mine has the use of two Jimny's a 54 plate and 61 and I've been in the 54 plate one and this new one is so much more refined and you're not actually rubbing shoulders with the driver,I don't think it's much wider but sure does make a difference.

@@AndrewParkOutdoors You're welcome,it's a really nice video. That sure sounds like commitment placing two deposits and a good call to get one early. So even with your encounter in sounds that some PR/communication is lacking although I appreciate that I think they are a bit overwhelmed with the demand and interest that's being received and it's not all the dealers fault, although I still feel a phone call would be nice at least. The dealer we were at(Warwickshire area) were still waiting for brochures to arrive, yep no brochure to take away with you. I suppose the positive of it is that there's an element of surprise when you do get it rather than knowing exactly what's coming. He's aiming for a sz5 in the limey green colour. I think it goes to show what a cracking car it is though as even with mine and my neighbours negative views of PR he's still going to wait for whatever comes.

@@albertov9664 Huge demand and I can see why,the only thing they said for sure was it wouldn't be before Sept so that's 9 months minimum,I'm not sure if it classes as a huge Suzuki dealership as it only had 4 cars in the showroom but there's not to many around our area (Warwickshire UK).

well they aren't a race car, as to gears.. I'm getting an automatic which is a 4 speed, the Toyota Surf that it is replacing was the same, the previous car I had was an Isuzu Bighorn(1985) manual with 5 forward gears so with the manual Jimny there is no difference. Being a small car with a small gearbox
,adding extra small parts in a tiny space could open up to drivetrain issues

I'm seriously considering trading my 2018 impreza hatchback for a Jimny. The reason being the Jimny has 210mm of ground clearance and the impreza only 130mm which makes it stupidly low. We live in a fairly remote area, 2 kilometres from the main road, and a single nights snowfall (1/2 metre) can easily see you stranded if the local farmer who clears the track sleeps in.
There's actually one available in the nearby town, a two seater priced @€30,500, which would actually be perfect for our needs. Just me, her and a rather large hairy creature called a dog.

7:10 can you turn the emergency braking off in the Jimny? I know most cars you can. I'm in the exact same boat as yourself, live in Erskine, often drive up & around Oban, have had a '06 Jimny for ~3 years now which is absolutely perfect for that, obsessing over the new one, the looks, cruise control & slightly more power is really attractive.

Out of curiosity, what made you sell it? I know the new ones can be flipped for a profit with the waiting list.
EDIT: lol, I just noticed in your video at 7:13 for a brief second you actually cut too two buttons displaying an EBS and lane departure icon with "OFF" clearly stated on them. I suppose that answers my question.

Can you drive in 4H on tarmac? I've heard with proper 4WD (as opposed to AWD) you can break them if you drive in 4H on tarmac.
I have a 13 plate Suzuki Swift Sport which has 6th gear and that pulls 3k in 6th @ 70mph so there's not a lot in it with the gearing. Also my trip says I get over 50mpg, but real-world mpg calculations reveal roughly 38-42mpg so I'm somewhat sceptical about trip read outs where mpg is concerned.
Great review though, love the new Jimny!

Stephen, if you think about it mpg on the Jimny is not bad at all, if you compare it with the next 4x4 in line (price), the Jeep Wrangler.
The Jimny is a pretty frugal 4x4, I traded my 2005 jeep for it and I get more than twice MPG on road and city; if you go offroad it´s even more, since you are only moving 1 ton around, instead of 2 or maybe more.
