I rented a pontoon boat from Lakeshore Resort and Marina on Lake Watauga the terms of service mentioned the NASBLA test. We all began the study and later after a call to confirm the rental, I mentioned that my son may not get the test passed in time. The man on the phone said, oh that's ok he can still operate the boat, we just cannot rent it to him? Oh, so he doesn't need the license I asked? No, he'll be all right to drive it. we leave in the morning to the lake with zero time to get the test past. My son is okay with not operating the boat and we will still do our best to enjoy the day on the lake. But we are not happy that the wrong information was given to us on the phone.
The other confusing information about the Jan 1st, 1989 law is this. We live in N.C. if we pass the test for N.C. is it good in all states, or do you need a license for each state? or is it like a driver's license good in all 50 states? That isn't clear?
