I was wrong the XT32 and XT16 provide .1 stop control. The X1/XPro do not offer this!
I know a lot of people are confused by the ridiculous amount of studio strobes offered by Godox, so here's a quick explanation for which one will best fit your needs.
uilt for speed, the QT600IIM Flash Head from Godox is a powerful 5600K daylight-balanced flash source with sophisticated core and convenience features and the kind of technology and flexibility that is the hallmark of advanced equipment. The head features 0.05-0.9 sec. recycling with flash durations as short as 1/19,606 sec. The QT600IIM offers power that's variable from 1/128 to full power, while the 150W modeling light's output is variable as well. Settings are accessed via rear panel push buttons and displayed on the easy-to-read LCD screen. The head has several flash modes for performance options. Ideal for most shooting situations, Stable Color Mode prioritizes precise 5600K color rendition. High-Speed Mode favors short t0.1 flash durations for ultra-sharp capture of peak action in sports or for creative studio work like freezing splashes or water droplets. The QT600IIM also supports High-Speed Sync enabling the use of shutter speeds as short as 1/8000 sec allowing you to use wider apertures and other creative effects.
With a guide number of 249', the QS600II Flash Head from Godox is a 5600K daylight-balanced flash source with sophisticated core and convenience features at an affordable price point. The head features 0.3-1.5 sec. recycling with flash durations as short as 1/2000 sec. Power is variable from 1/32 to full power, adjustable in 50 steps, while the 150W modeling light has a Proportional mode to aid in light placement and a Percentage mode that adjusts brightness from 5 to 100%. Settings are accessed via rear panel push buttons and displayed on the easy-to-read LCD screen. Triggering options include sync cord, test button, and slave triggering. The QS600II has a built-in 32-channel X1 radio system, making wireless function control possible with separate purchase of the XT16, FT16 or X1 transmitter. The head also has an anti-pre-flash function that makes it easy to work with point-and-shoot and other cameras that employ pre-flash. The QS600II weighs in at 6.4 lb, making it easy to assemble a kit with 2 or more heads without having to lug a heavy case around. The QS600II has a Bowens front accessory mount allowing it to use Godox modifiers as well as accessories from the many manufacturers that use this system. The head has a tilting stand mount and runs on 100 to 120 VAC mains power.
With a guide number of 213, the SK400II Studio Strobe from Godox is a 5600K daylight-balanced flash source that offers solid core and convenience features at a budget-friendly price point. The head features a 0.4-3 sec recycling time with flash durations as short as 1/2000 sec. Power is variable from 1/16 to full power, adjustable in 40 steps, while the 150W modeling light has a Proportional mode to allow you to preview your lighting effects and a Percentage mode that adjusts brightness from 5 to 100%. The SK400II weighs in at 4.6 lb, encouraging the assembly of a kit with two or more heads without having to lug a heavy case around. The SK400II has a Bowens front accessory mount, allowing it to use Godox modifiers as well as accessories from the many manufacturers that use this system. The head has a tilting stand mount and runs on 100 to 120 VAC mains power.
he DP400II Flash Head from Godox is a full-featured 400Ws monolight with several professional and convenience features. The head has a color temperature of 5600K, a recycle time of 0.3-1.2 sec, and flash durations from 1/800 to an action-stopping 1/2000 sec. Power is variable from 1/16 to full power, while the DP400II's 150W modeling can be set to a percentage or proportional to the flash power to allow you to accurately preview your final shot. All of these functions can not only be made manually on the unit, but also wirelessly via the head's built-in Wireless X System receiver. Remote operation requires separate purchase of a transmitter.
after spending hours trying to figured out Godox model I came across this...THANK YOU!!!!
Super useful, you're the only one to provide this comparaison.
This is the clearest and best video I've seen in these months. You explained everything very clearly, and you save me a lot of time searching the products detail. Thank you so much for this video!
So glad to hear you found it helpful
Yes it was, esp the transcript.. for newbie who knows nothin' 'bout this topic all that model callout was too fast.. and the speed was not for me..don't know what qt2, gs2 etc.. no idea.. sounded abstract ( guess because of the speed )
Agreed, Godox need to slim down their range. There's no doubt that whatever you require in terms of a strobe Godox has you covered 😊
Hi Robert. Also note that the SKII series needs to be discharged when the flash output is adjusted from high to low. The "test" button is used for this purpose.
no entiendo...qué significa?
watching this 6 years later and not only did they not combine models and clean it up but added more and complicated it even further
I've done a lot of product research and finding the right product for me and I don't think I've even been this confused with a lineup before.
The situation with LED is even crazier
Just what I was looking for. I want to stay in the Godox series. Your vids on equipment especially Godox convinced me. Just a note: the QT series is very usable in HSS mode for mixed sun and flash in studio, allowing shooting with wide apertures with sun, and higher shutter speed with HSS flash.
Thank you so much Robert, helpful and informative video! Good luck and keep creating!
Thanks for these videos Robert! UA-cam has been my goto place for info and reviews on equipment. You’re one the valued content creators here. Keep the goodies coming sir.
Thanks for the comments David!
Big thanks!! I'm looking to switch to Godox lights entirely for everything from big 1200Ws power flashes to smaller AD200 style flashes to Speedlites. Right now I have a mix of Canon, Elinchrom, NiceFoto and more depending on what I shoot... Looking forward to have everything in the same system and being able to combine them all as well with the same trigger. This really helped me out, thanks again!
Nice video, Robert. One point about freezing action. I believe that the QT series are IGBT controlled devices whereas the others are voltage controlled. This means that when a QT flash is on full power it has the longest flash duration and at lowest power it has the shortest. For the other series it's the other way round. This means that in some cases the SK might be a better bet than the QT.
Nice overview. I'm missing the MS300/MS200.
Great job! Sorting thru the Godox models is utter confusion. Thanks for taking the time the explain it all.
my head was spinning with all of the options. thank you for giving an excellent rundown of the monolights
Thank you so much Robert! Way too many grades of strobes within Godox its gets so confusing! Thank you for the clarity! Very helpful :)
This video did help me out! their product tiers are really confusing. The power level increments are really important factor. Brute power is not always the answer, I need the granularity of controls as well.
Thank you so much Robert for the great video! Very informative! God bless you!
Great review!! Thanks for creating a concise compare and contrast!
One more feature to compare is which strobes have autodump. AFAIK, the SK series doesn't, so you have to hit the TEST button between shots if you adjust the power downwards. I think they all use the Bowens S mount. The GSII series doesn't look like it's actually released yet. And agree: they could really do with simplifying the line-up and making it clearer what the differences in-use are. Another big difference is that only the QTII and SKII are Flashpointed by Adorama as the Rapid and the Studio, respectively. The are carrying the QSII and a GT300II (s'what?!) as Godox-branded gear. But you have to go to B&H to find the GSII and DPII strobes. I'm curious to see if they go all the way down to the Mini Pioneers with the MkII upgrading.
Extremely useful video. Thank you for making this! It was about time! 👍
I can't remember when it was, but Godox did release a firmware update for the XPro allowing it to use 0.1 power increments (instead of 0.3).
Yes, that firmware was recently added.
"omit a lot of the indecision" I find this too accurate. I think I've watched this video 4 times trying to decide which Godox strobes to buy.
Wow. I’ve been so hung up on the ad600 and the 200 battery flashes, I didn’t even know these existed. And I mainly do studio. Wow this is great news! lol
Same. I mean, I still want a battery studio strobe option for on the fly outdoor shoots, but I'm still rocking like 5 or 6 Phottix Mitros+ speedlights and Odin ii TCU controller which is still giving me plenty of power.
Taking a chance on these Godox sk400ii and 300ii was totally worth it.
Thanks, this is really helpful. I'm planning for a major indoor location shoot where I'll have three different backdrop setups and need more lights.
I only have two AD600 Pro units and one QT-600 and need a minimum of 4 more lights for this project. I like my QT-600 but noticed cheaper Godox/Flashpoint options available but wasn't sure about all the differences until now. Also noticing that the cost of the QT600 (Flashpoint Rapid 600) when not on sale is fairly close to the cost of an 'open box' AD600 Pro, which has me on the fence.
Brilliant content.. Thankyou so much Robert. Keep doing more.. cheers
Awsome video brother. You saved me hours of research and tons of paper 😂. Im going with the QS because it goes down to 1\128 power. I own the ms300 and strange it might seem but it too works perfectly in HSS. Thanks again sir. The research and comparison was taking me forever!!!!. Robert, I haven't seen a video of yours that wasn't exellent.
I have two DP600II and 2 AD600BM. I found the two series have more than 500 difference in color temperature. The AD series is more close to 5500, the DP series is more close to 5000, (4800 gives more neural color.) I bought them all in china, where there are tons of retails stores. The sales guy admits that the DP is warmer. In same case it can really give me a hard time for post production. I have light, say AD600, shine direct to the back drop when doing high key family portrait. Some time the kids move around and get some spill one the face. If I set the WB in camera for DP series, the spill on kids face will be blueish, very visible. If I set for AD, the whole image will turn ugly yellow. But in other cases, like portrait, ues one series for main, other for kicker, or even add color gel, won't be a issue at all. But I decided to buy two more AD400pro. I believe they provide color more close to AD600.
Yeah the AD600 (as well as 600/400 Pros) are IGBT strobes whereas the DP series is voltage controlled, so it’s not surprising that they have a very different color.
but i thibk godox should be more honest to write down the true temp. They all written 5500
Greatest findings for the Godox lineup. I’m a bit surprised ad600 line isn’t here though given this vid was made this year. Thanks anw.
The AD600 is a portable strobe, designed for on location work. And I've covered it well in other videos.
Good on you mate! Thanks for putting this together, Robert.
This is very useful and very well explained! Nice job!
You say bin the GS series ! But this is the only one that has a 200W option & it goes down to 1/32 power. We run a pretty small home studio, been using Bowens 200W lights but now moving over to Godox. ( already have a couple of AD200s and several speedlights all wired in to the Xpro triggers ) So I bought an SK300II & 300W at 1/16th power is too bright for what I am trying to do, the whole studio is white/light grey and I ended up pointing the strobe at the wall behind me and bouncing it back, I also put two layers of white cloth over the softbox to further diffuse/dim it down. Next for me is to get the GS200II and try that. That will give me 100W less and the ability to turn it down another stop ! Or get a 200W bulb and put it in the SK300II, don't know if that would work or not though
Thank you! Very helpful. Godox product line is really a mess regarding too many products with too many similarities.
Thank you! I just came from the Godox site and like you said, its confusing and I did not know the differences of the lights. Thanks for the explanation. Question: Why and whey would I pay up for the AD series lights? And how are the WITSTRO FLashes different?
வீடியோ மிகவும் பயனுள்ளதாக இருந்தது மிக்க நன்றி

Very useful This video sir, , big thank you sir R.MANOHAR ,Chennai.India
You are my new favorite. Great video!
Thanks for making this video, it also took me awhile in the past
Interesting and very useful analysis and explanation. In the specs on B&H I noticed the SK400II says "Not Applicable" under both the "Mount" and "Warranty Length" headings which makes me wonder, a) is that because it only has a standard mount, and b) that it has no warranty? Looking forward to your input. Thanks in advance.
Really helpful! Thank you.
Make SK review pleeees 😉
Thanks for the great video and breakdown. I might give these another try and get a different series. I bought an Godox SK400II back in November and returned it as the output of the flashes was wildly irregular (not colour, output). Haven't had the same problem with the battery ones (ad200, ad360ii, ad600bm). Do you experience much variance in power output? (Yes I did allow for recycling) :) Probably what I should have expected being a cheapskate and buying a lesser series but I expected it to output correctly..
Mark Flower sk400II wireless?
Thank you so much
This video is very useful for me
I am thinking about the sk400ii ,I use speedlites but a small studio strobe would be helpful, I dont need all the features of a high end strobe
Thank you for actually explaining :)
Best video ever! Really helpfull! Thank you! Now I know what to buy
Great video Robert. Only thing is, other than the QTII series, all the other lights' flash duration ratings are T.5 I believe. I used to have SK I lights, and at minimum power (1/2000), it was not able to freeze a simple water splash what so ever. Maybe you could test to see if this is the case, however.
i plan to buy the sk 400ii how was the previous version work for u in term of simple product photo. does the 400ws is enough ? tks
It was good for what it was. For the price, I found color & power stability to be quite good. If I remember correctly, it was not "quite" 400ws, though, it was more along the lines of 250ws in reality. But I found it enough for what I was doing at the time. The real limitation was the narrow power range, only able to go down to 1/16. That was a bit annoying. Also don't expect to freeze any type of motion. Don't shoot too fast & don't keep the modeling light on too long, and I think it'll do fine for you.
tks for the reply. i expect the version 2 doing better about the power output. cause i think that is big fault/ 400 and only have 250. im thinking of choosing between the sk ver 2 and the dp ver 2.
Very helpful Robert! Thanks Again!
5:16
I believe you meant to say QS 1200 not QT 1200
Thank you so much for the video. By the way, I like the purple and green your background has. How do you achieve it? Are you using rgb lights on plain wall or using background paper? The color looks seamless so I guess with lights? Thank you in advance
Hey, thank you for the video. I didn't know there were so many options, actually, in Canada, I see only 3. Quick question, which head goes down in power to 1/128? or 1/256? is it only Ad600? what about consistent color temperature?
Thanks for the rundown.
HI Robert. Excellent intro to the Godox brand! I'm looking for a quality, semi-fast flash duration, 2 or 3 strobe with softbox and remote trigger kit for my Fuji X-System. I was actually considering Einstein brand strobes as well. Would you know how the Godox DP600 II compares to Einstein models and if either offers a "kit" with the above items for a not-too-crazy price? Thank you sir!
What inexpensive Godox strobe would be adequate to lighten a white backdrop while also not being too powerful and also have a fast recycle time?
That's not enough info. The answer could be a speedlight, could be a 1200 Pro. It entirely depends on ambient conditions, desired camera settings, and your definition of "fast" recycle time.
Brilliant as usual
Hey Mate. Can you show how you connect your camera to Godox QS600II? Thanks.
So the only difference between the QS2 and DP2 is just the build quality and slight difference in flash recycle time?
I do wish my QS60011 would go below 1/32 power so I can shoot at f2.8-4.5.🥴
this is what i've been looking for all this time..make another about godox strobe with the xpro trigger or x1t pleasee..i want to build my studio kit with godox series.. i think im into QT600 II
What is the difference between Godox "quicker II series" vrs "QT II series"? Specifically looking at the 600. I see owners manual on Godox website for the "quicker II 600" and for the QT 600II. The back end of the unit is different. I also see that Adomara under Flashpoint is selling the QT 600II but the pictures of the control end looks like the Quicker II vrs the QT 600II. what gives?
Just interested to now your opinion on QSII series vs. the new DPIII series. Which one is a better buy in your opinion?
So what is the difference between them and the AD series?? I was looking around for flash for first time and AD first shows up on ebay but you never mention them here. I appreciate any response.
For a small home studio (8 ft. Wide backdrops, 10 foot ceiling height ) would you recommend the SK400 or the QS400? Also would you recommend a 38 inch EZ lock deep parabolic?
Great video...!!! Very helpful and informative!
Awesome review. Thanks a lot!
Nice video. What do you prefer between Godox SK400-II vs Godox DP600-II? Thank you very much.
hi , which one is better QT or QS and also which one is best with mixing AD600 pro in STUDIO . pls reply thank you .
Very useful information.. Sir but do these godox strobes comes with elinchrom mount also?
THANKS A BUNDLE! Agree with your conclusion.
I Have Godox SK400 What is the use of usb of socket My Request can u plz clear the question sir
much better explanation than pathetic godox website. i wish i can meet their website developer and ask him to see your video. well done sir. keep it up.
I have watched this video (multiple times on the last 5 months, it was the reason why I subscribed to your channel afterwords) to figure out what should be my next (400W) strobe (already have 1x V860ii and 1x AD200).
Was undecided between QT400II and QS400II and finally inclined towards the QT400II until .... ... I opened your great spreadsheet and saw that QT400II does NOT have multi mode if running under 220v !? (my case in Europe).
Does this mean that if I want stroboscopic/multi mode in Europe I will have to go for the QT600ii model ??
Nice video Robert!! Can I use the SK400ii in high speed sync? Thanks.
Thanks for the comparo. You missed the DE line but, the funny thing is, so did Godox. I noticed it on sale on Aliexpress and Amazon but when I visited the Godox website, they don't have it listed. What gives? Any idea whether this line is legit and, if so, how it compares to the SK line given how close in price it is?
I see this was a few years ago and still helpful. However, I was wondering how the "MS" or Blaz series fit into all of this and how they compare for the dollars spent.
I've made a video on the Blaz / MS series. I think it's a better option than the SK series nowadays (smaller size, lower minimum power). But, the QS / QT series still stand out above it, and DPIII is best high output budget option.
Could you make a video on how to sync the trigger with the flashes. I just bought three of the godox sk400ii strobes with the XT Pro trigger. I can't find anything on UA-cam on how to sync.
Thanks for the video, very clear and informative. Is there any update on the X Pro control of the studio lights, can the power now be correctly adjusted via the trigger? I'm afraid that they are quite uselesss to me if it can't.... :/
Hi Robert, question: Is the QS400 with xtr-16 the same as a QS400II? Can i use then the X pro trigger? Thanks, Mike
Hi thank for your review and update. Can u please help me Which one is good for newborn portrait.
HI Robert I have a silly question, where can I find a table of flash power equivalencies between godox strobes? I have an AD600 pro, an AD300pro and a V1. Let's say if I am shooting at 1/32 power on an AD600, how much power would I need from my ad300 to match that? does that exist? thanks a lot in advance.
While I don't think such a thing exists in table form, I have a power comparison video up (search godox power comparison) that compares them all in stops which you could use to find equivalent power levels. There's usually no purpose to using it in practice though because it will vary with each modifier anyways.
At 1:40 which possibility of battery operation did you mention; kindly provide URL
thank youu.. it help me so much
Very helpful, but Godox is selling the DE series lights in my area. Do you have any idea them? Do they work with X1 transmitter?
Hamza Khawaja The DE series work with X1T series with the XTR16 receiver. Or the old 433MHz tigger and receiver.
Any comments on the new dp iii series vs the ms series or sk series? I can’t find much information on build quality or a real reason to buy over the ms or sk series. Also they’re almost the price of the qs, very confusing line up.
How will the X1T work with a group AD200 (that that have .1 settings for power) and these studio strobes - will this force all strobes to change using a 1 stop increment?
Wish there was more b roll to more easily follow the models.
Hey Robert thank you for you video. I have 3 neewer ds 300 and ti the same with the godox ds 300? and one of the strobe flash bulb and model lamp burned out, and I can't find them anywhere, I really want help to find them thank you.
Minimum power of 1/16 or 1/32 are oddly limited. I'm used to strobe that go down to 1/128 such as AD600. Is this so uncommon?
Strobes are either IGBT or voltage controlled. IGBT strobes commonly go down to 1/128, 1/256, or 1/512. I'd call 1/128 the "norm". But voltage controlled strobes typically don't have the same range.
@@robhallphoto So that's why the SK400-II is going back to B&H (and why it was only $108, I suppose) and my new AD600BM is staying. 1/32 vs 1/256. I need the flexibility.
Can I mount a 250w modeling lamp on QT/QS strobes? I already did it and It worked but I'm not sure it's safe! Any suggestion?
Thank you for your video very helpful. I'm about to pull the trigger for 1 AD200 to do environmental portrait session and also in home studio $300 us. 1 questions you mentioned on this video the light could be power by a vagabond? could you provide me with a link or model #? for the price of the AD200 I could get 2 SK400ii if I can get them to work in the field. Would you recommend going this way? thank you!
Hi Robert, great video! Do you know where people can find replacement flash bulbs for the DP1000 II? I'm looking everywhere online and finding nothing...
sorry i am new here .. wanted to ask a question ? which has better features among the 2 a) SKII series or b) DPII series ??
brilliant ! thanks !
So with the SK300ii won’t be able to capture motion in studio? Splash photography? I was able to do it with regular TTL speed light but this one doesn’t right? What is the best budget choice which allows up to 1/1000s flash?
Qt600 ii
Anyone find a decent battery pack that I could travel with. I can't find the vegabond that was suggested.
Vagabond*, if that helps.
Thanks a lot for a very comprehensive review. One qustion, sorry if it is a dumb one as it will be my first studio flash, can the flash turned on continously on SK or DP series? So that they function as continous light.
the flash tube cannot be turned on continuously on any light. But, these have a modeling lamp to act as a continuous light. Although, I don't think it's bright enough to be anything useful outside of modeling.
Thanks, I intend to use the 'continous light' from this device for learning many kinds og highlight and shadows cerated on objects face before shuttering the camera
I’m considering buying the sk400ll I have looked it in different websites but some say that recycle time at full power is 1sec, others 3secs, you said 1sec. So have you actually test it to check if indeed is 1sec?
yup it's actually 1 second - maybe a hair over, 1.2ish
If you haven't made your purchase yet, you won't be disappointed.
I picked up 2 sk400ii's and 2 sk300ii's. They are amazing for the price and have rock solid HSS with the xpro-c transmitter.
@@matttwhitesemail SK400 has HSS?
Yep!! Wireless HSS at that AND rear curtain sync up to 1/8000 sec.
Works great with the xPro-c on my Canon Dx1 & 5Dmkiii. Cheap, effective and powerful in the studio.
And if you need to do an outdoors shoot, grab a vagabond knockoff or two.
If that's the case...I'm in. I have an xPro-n I use on my D750 with my 860s. I am assuming it should work fine then?
Very thanks
i wanna ask about Sk300 II and Sk400 II , are they support HSS or not because i got confused , specification said flash duration between 1/800s to 1/2000s so that mean HSS , but a lot of people said that mean on camera you will shoot on 1/220s by maximum so i need to know the clear answer.
Also if the strobe support HSS is that must to use a specific trigger that support HSS or i can use any type of triggers . Thanks
No.
Flash duration is the time it takes the flash to go from it's full output to one tenth of it's output (t.1) or half it's output (.5). It is a measurement of how fast the flash dissappears, which is used to determine it's action-freezing potential. It has nothing to do with the shutter speed it is capable of shooting at.
The SK series is not HSS compatible.
@@robhallphoto First of all thanks for the fast response :) , but also you didn't answer the second question which is the Strobe that has HSS must used with Trigger HSS like Pocket Wizard or not must ?
@@robhallphoto have you measured the t.1 time? I have a meter but it's basic and can't measure t.1 but to try and judge the speed I use a fan with marks on the blade and there doesn't seem to be much difference between full power and 1/16 power in the ability to freeze the fan. Which could explain why I and friends can get acceptable images from the SK300ii at shutter speeds up to 1/4000 second.
wow, how did Godox mess up so bad. Minimum power or 1/32 and evn 1/16? wow.
It’s not really a mistake, moreso a limitation of cheaper electronics in non IGTB strobes.
Hi Robert, for a small home studio set up, mainly to photograph portraits, which Godox Strobe would you recommend?
If you don't plan on ever freezing action, my favorite budget option is the SK series, and if you want a bit more power versatility then I recommend the QS series.
@@robhallphoto Thanks Robert! Still 1 question please: do I need 600W or is 400W sufficient to light a model in a small room?
There a DE too..
Is that correct that all these strobes have TTI and Manual modes? Thanks,
none of these have TTL. every strobe in existence has manual mode
