I’m originally from Pittsburgh; moved to Portland, Oregon in 1997. I saw this video while I was looking for video about Pittsburgh to comfort me while undergoing a bout of homesickness. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it and seeing the changes in the museum. They used to have just one T-Rex and it was standing up. I believe there are new thoughts on how upright they were. I had a couple temporary secretary jobs at the Carnegie Museum and walked through the Hall of Birds, which was on the first floor and dimly lit, everyday on my way to the cafeteria. Kinda creepy. I always thought the Dodo was real. You taught me something new! Riding the inclines never gets old. My favorite museum in Pittsburgh is the Andy Warhol Museum. I’m an artist and art geek with Warhol being my favorite artist. Thanks for the awesome trip down memory lane ❤
As a member of the Union that represents all the workers in all the Carnegie Museums I can emphatically say: Fuck Andrew Carnegie! His unwillingness to provide his workers with a reasonable wage and humane working conditions in his steel mills lead to the Homestead Strikes in 1892, a piece of Pittsburgh history that the Heinz History Center isn't afraid to document. His attempts to placate the communities with charitable gifts can never atone for his crimes.

My dad lives in Pittsburgh & I used to adore this museum. I want to come back after seeing all these new updates since when I was younger! Such a cool walk through video, comedy, dinosaurs, taxidermy, chefs kiss to the best videos.
My Dad was born in Pittsburgh, and even though he moved to Chicago when he was five, always had a soft spot for it. I also have a soft spot for Pennsylvania in general, due to going to a summer camp in Wayne county, up in the northeast. Best five summers of my life.
Same for me. I was born in Kittanning, PA which is just 30 minutes Northeast of Pittsburgh but we moved down to North Carolina when I was only a few weeks old. However, we went up there all the time to visit family.
Brilliant vlog....Love it when you visit museums I find them so interesting..And like you say you always learn something new..Here in Scarborough we have 3 cliff lifts built in the victorian period. Also known as funicular. XX

I'm sure it goes without saying, but viewing the fireworks display on July 4th from Mt. Washington is a must. It's insanity. Off-note: I actually almost got ran over by an ambulance in the Oakland area right in front of the art museum. Kind of poetic.
Insider tip... the hills of south side are almost as good as the overlook and not packed like sardines. I used to watch from a friend's on Arlington and it was near as good and waaaaay less stress. Even when I was at the top of 18th on the 2nd floor was freaky good
@@Reyd_01 The South Side Slopes are nice for the view, I agree. I was friends with the tenants in the the flats, so they let me watch from the top of the building. You know what they say: South Side is the best side.
@@Raees-Divitiae not so much anymore though 😔 I spent 2yrs on the flats and 10yrs on 18th st slopes and it just got too bad from Mt Oliver, I got out to Brentwood/Overbrook and love it out here. July 4th is the only reason to venture back there! Cept maybe Fatheads 😄

I went on some dates with a girl who's mom supposedly worked on the curating team at carnegie in the 70s-80s and claimed that Egyptian artifacts were too expensive at the time, so they faked it and apparently personally made over 1/3 of the small items that are on display... She was a lil crazy but had strong conviction about it. Also, there is a kindly older gentleman who works the T-rex area that often carries actual fossils you can hold and he is a wealth of dino info. I think more of these “artifacts” are by and large fake or replicas. It’s just more believable than the idea somehow all of these things were salvaged and kept by people over hundreds and hundreds of years. Sure some things are probably legit but that girl might have been tipping you off to some museum secrets 😉
Another city I've never been to, thank you for visiting it for us! I've been to Philadelphia for like an overnight meeting, not long enough. But never to Pittsburgh.
Growing up here in Pittsburgh,a group of our friends would visit the museum and have the “Run” of the place. Never getting into trouble. During the early 70s around 1972. I have a vivid memory of college students sitting around and sketching the Diorama of the camel rider on a weekend visit. Great childhood memories, not negatively impacted by the (ART) of the taxidermy of a world class diorama.
The display used to be in another part of the museum and was taken down to refurbish it when the museum went to thru a bit of a redo. They xrayed the piece and realized it. The curators had no idea prior to that. if you want more details you should be able to find the articles that were in the papers, etc at the time...i want to say about 10 years ago..eh.... hasnt been long. just search lion camel statue carnegie and it should give you something to go on....by the way ...some trivia...the lions depicted are actually extinct Barbary ones
This brings back so many memories as I watch this. My dad grew up in that area and, whenever we visited his mom, we HAD to go for a ride on the incline, see the museum, etc. I miss those days... Thank you so much for this video! (and you definitely need to go back to Mt. Washington to see the fireworks on the 4th--they can't be beat, imo!)
Victoria, BC, Canada has a miniature museum. Since you love dioramas, it's a large place with large dioramas using miniatures. They have fairy tales, scifi, military, circuses, and many more things
Thank you for this awesome tour Jacob. I absolutely love museums and you have shared so many amazing places with us this one was truly special. I love the art of the diorama display. The diorama was my favorite part of school and I’ve loved displays of any kind ever since. Safe travels ☺️😎
Thanks Jacob! Another great video. My husband & I go to the museum every year. We live pretty close and Christmas time is always nice with the tree displays, beautiful. When you sniffed the herb & said paprika I LOL'ed hard, paprika is a spice, not an herb! 😂 Thanks for the giggles. Keep up the good work, we enjoy watching you explore cool places.
Regarding the human skull...I know that there have been individuals that have had their cremated remains "spread" within the Haunted Mansion ride in Disney's Magic Kingdom. Disney routinely "vacuums" up those remains and removes them. Considering that the deceased wanted their remains spread within the Haunted Mansion, isn't it DISRESPECTFUL to remove them? Should Disney work to recover those removed remains and re-spread them within the ride, or at a minimum, have a respectful location within the Haunted Mansion to keep them in their care?????
try the bayernhoff museum next time you’re in town it’s amazing and not very well known you got really lucky in that was a sunny day. it’s literally cloudy every day in the colder months, that’s why we have so many bars.
Also a Pittsburgher: that display is so old! I remember having to lay next to it during a girl scout sleep over fieldtrip at the museum... Thanks for visiting PGH!
Interesting. Pity that the nearest natural history museum to me is in London, which is several hours away. Anyway, there's one of those incline things near me, except they call it a cliff lift, or cliff tramway. Been on it only once in my life, I think. I'm glad there's some progress for you on the car front. Looking forward to your next video.
The Natural History Museum in London is the best one I’ve ever visited and I’m absolutely obsessed with them! Highly recommend!! But go during the weekdays because it was also the most crowded museum I’ve ever been to in my life. 😂 Worth it though!

Great to see you in Pittsburgh! My home city :) Sadly I'm currently not in Pittsburgh right now. Not too far away though. currently in Slippery Rock PA.
There are a lot of French words in that area such as Duquesne. Back in the mid 1700s it was a battleground between Britain and France in the French and Indian War. In fact not far from there is the site where George Washington, only in his mid 20s basically started a global war.
This video makes me miss the National Museum of Scotland where they have the taxidermy remains of Dolly the Sheep along with tons of other amazing exhibits.
So awesome to watch you in my home town fun fact the lone girafe was actually a pet that the owner had taxidermied and donated to the museum and i was sad when you didnt show the gaboon viper in one of the smaller hall of botney exhibits
Thank you! That was very enjoyable. We came over and I missed the museum sadly while we were visiting the Carnegie Mellon University. Wish I hadn't missed the inclineLot of fun!
Ever wonder how many lips kissed that very spot on the bear? hehe I Loved seeing Pittsburgh! I loved riding up on the incline & looking back onto the city from Mt. Washington. Beautiful City rich with history. Loved seeing how the Incline worked. I loved seeing the Controversial Taxidermy. It was always a part of the history of man evolving & going through changes to me. I never seen it as targeting any ethical group/s. The hat looked great on the Carpetbagger Lion. Carpetbagger Bear was neat too! There's a McDonalds Big Mac Museum in Irwin, Pa. Neat! I loved visiting Pittsburgh. Wish we could of stayed a little bit longer. Yhank you Jacob! Happy Birthday!
That 'Lion Bagger' should have been the thumbnail. Might have been confusing with the tagline but still! 😂 Great to see you back on the road, Jacob. Just remember, you do these things so we don't have to! 😜
Very nice and impressive video. I loved the incline cable cars, but wonder why they don't have those in Gatlinburg? They would keep you out of direct rain, snow, and wind. That Carnegie museum is truly beautiful, as a building outside and in, and also in its live-size dioramas. While you walked us through, i wondered if this museum would have a Brasilian or South American section, with some of the drawings and taxidermies brought back by the Teddy Roosevelt expedition through the Amazon area. Apparently not, but i'm going to look up those details and check if you already visited there in the past.
Since it sounds like you'll have the rental car for up to 8 weeks, do they ask you to get the oil changed someplace or does the rental company just let it ride, despite the miles you end up putting on it?
Real human parts in displays is such a big fear of mine. I had a weird phobia of dead things for a long time. I love taxidermy now, in no small part thanks to your videos, but man the idea of human remains just hanging out in some display and no one knows is totally one of those little intrusive thoughts I have in museums. Also, as a Latino it is kinda hilarious the jolt of discomfort I felt by the use of Latinx in what is supposed to be a proper museum display and was done in the name of inclusivity. They are trying to be good, I totally get it, but I really don't know any Latinos who like Latinx mostly just white people so it is kinda funny they're talking about colonialism on the disclaimers they have there while doing something that will likely be looked at unfavorably in some years and itself viewed as a form of whitewashing/colonization.

When you travel south again, you have to go to Grey Tennessee. The museum there is on an actual active paleontology dig site. It is for ice age critters found on site. :)
Looks like this museum has some extensive displays! I generally don't watch videos/do computer interactive stuff at museums and attractions, I do enough of that at home and there's usually not enough time to see everything I want to see anyway. 2 museums I recommend are Indianapolis Children's Museum and Cincinnati Museum Center.
Great explore of attractions in Pittsburg-will suggest this video to a fellow here at work that has a home in Pittsburg. The museum displays were something else!
So people are saying the lions are obviously racist so we need to plaster multiple warning stickers all over it to try and lessen the pain of possible offence.
If you went from the Duquesne incline to the scenic overlook, I would have suggested taking the Monongahela Incline back down the mountain. That one is less historic, but still neat. It's less tourist and more used by the locals. It also would have been a longer walk, and I made that walk in my 20s.
That “some kind of stadium” was Heinz field now called Acisure Stadium. It’s where The Stillers or Steelers play. I have lived in Western Pa all my life. Pittsburgh is beautiful and I am so proud! Defiantly can recommend Carnegie Museum and The Carnegie Science center.

Love the sounds of the old Car system… so cool ! Nice place hope some day I’ll visit !!
That 'Lion Bagger' should have been the thumbnail. Might have been confusing with the tagline but still! 😂
Great to see you back on the road, Jacob.
Because there is not enough need for these in Gatlinburg. The time and money that would be needed would not be feasible.
@@Heatherbob201Pittsburgh has 2 of the last 3 in the world
The video of the incline was absolutely fantastic. Great job. Thanks so much.
Carpetbaggers the man with the master plan
Since it sounds like you'll have the rental car for up to 8 weeks, do they ask you to get the oil changed someplace or does the rental company just let it ride, despite the miles you end up putting on it?
Great video, glad to see you smile again. So glad glad you finally got news on your car. Safe travels
Thanks for coming to our city! I have lived here my whole life n it’s honestly a great city
My 27 year old autistic son loves watching the videos in museums. And I love an excuse to sit down. 😁
I live like 5 minutes from the incline!!
I watch the videos in museums. I'm glad to see you back on the road.
Wow your here in my city. I wish I could bumped into you because I was right near the Incline in Station Square.
I’ve been to this museum multiple times Jacob I live around here I’m glad you came 👍
Great video. Thanks, Jake.
My hometown! Glad you had a great time here in Pittsburgh 🏙

@scott fursey sorry I'm from midlands England thanks for a reply 👍 😀
When you travel south again, you have to go to Grey Tennessee. The museum there is on an actual active paleontology dig site. It is for ice age critters found on site. :)
Looks like this museum has some extensive displays! I generally don't watch videos/do computer interactive stuff at museums and attractions, I do enough of that at home and there's usually not enough time to see everything I want to see anyway. 2 museums I recommend are Indianapolis Children's Museum and Cincinnati Museum Center.
Glad your back n moving again!!
Great explore of attractions in Pittsburg-will suggest this video to a fellow here at work that has a home in Pittsburg. The museum displays were something else!
There's also an Andy Warhol museum in Pittsburgh.
So people are saying the lions are obviously racist so we need to plaster multiple warning stickers all over it to try and lessen the pain of possible offence.
You are awesome 😎
Next time Yinz go to Pittsburgh, you need to hang out and/or have an interview with Rick Sebak!!!!!
Thats great news it didn't get totaled. Stay safe out there Jacob. Thanks for the content.
