Luciano Pavarotti is one of the great tenors of all times. Not only due to his voice, but also the emotion he puts into his singing makes me chill every time.
I had the absolute honor of seeing Pavarotti in Concert in Chicago in the 90s. I’ve been to many Concerts of various genres of music over my 6 decades and yet that Concert stands out as one of, if not the best. I remember getting a lump in my throat at his performance. I knew I was seeing something exceptional and so special.
For all those who are not into Opera. This clip is from a recital, where Pavarotti is singing different "arie", little pieces from different Operas. You can think of Opera like a musical before cinema was created. The story is narrated by music and acting, and is usually full of passion, deaths, betrayals and every kind of thing that can make the audience emotional. And every singer must also be an actor. This aria is from Turandot, a beautiful but maleficent princess who kills every guy who wants to marry her but is not able to answer three riddles. But the prince Calaf is in the end able to give the right answers. Calaf is in the end forced to make a riddle to Turadot and he ask "What is my name?". And in this aria Calaf is waiting for the sun to rise, when he will be able to marry the princess. That's why he says "the mystery is within me" and "at dawn I will be the winner". Great synopsis, but I'd add the other consequences. Yes if Turandot fails to find out his name by dawn then she has to marry him. But if she does find out his name she can go ahead and put him to death, and for that reason she decrees that nobody in the city shall sleep that night until his name is discovered and that if the people of the city fail to discover his name then it is all of them that will die rather than him. Hence the title Nessun Dorma, which translates as None Shall Sleep.
This is the epitome of human evolution. It is just incredible! Each time I listen I am always very emotional 😭 He is in a state of trance during this exhibition!

This was recorded back in 1994 when Luciano was 59 years old. How many modern day pop stars half his age can belt out notes like he did? Sadly, very few these days. This was back before auto tune & done in front of a live audience consisting of over 75,000 people. This is just an aria (solo part) of the opera "Turandot" by Giacomo Puccini, written in 1924 & first performed in 1926. The world lost a tremendous talent when Luciano passed away in 2007. I'm glad that my 2nd favorite tenor, Andrea Bocelli, is still alive & singing his heart out... When I was a kid I didn't like opera much because to my immature & unsophisticated ears, it all just seemed like a bunch of yelling done in singsong form & I couldn't understand the words. It wasn't until I was in my late teens/early 20's when I began to fully appreciate what it took to become a trained classical (aka opera) singer. You don't have to understand the lyrics in order to feel the raw passion behind each performance. Great music & incredible natural talent transcends all languages & ages.

yes its part of an opera which means a story in music , its called an aria in a opera. their not songs but an aria with a story line in singing. im a classical rock fan of pink floyd, procol harem, the moody blues, the who, the animals etc and love classical music with my favourite composers like PUCCINI, VERDI, PIETRO MASCAGNI . most opera was invented by italian composers hundreds of years ago. the most beautiful music was composed by these artists. modern music now is done by the likes of MORRICONE, HORNER, WILLIAMS etc.

You think 7 years before you were born is old? Well, that was the date of this performance, but this opera itself was *composed* in 1924, and there are operas still being performed today that were composed in the 1700s, more than *200 years* ago! For example, "The Magic Flute" by Mozart was composed in 1791 (232 years ago!) and is still a success today. Good music is ageless.

This is part of a Three Tenors concert with Zubin Mehta conducting. This particular clip was from the 1998 concert - I think I recall correctly. Previous concerts were conducted by Zubin and John Levine. The other tenors taking part were Placido Domingo and José Carreras. Their medleys are certainly worth a watch as they enter into some friendly challenging matches, almost looking as if they are making up the order in which they sing as they go along. Great fun.

The final vinceros were the most impressive I've heard (with perhaps the performance of Bocelli at the UEFA Euro 2020). @@joepollard9476 Just listened to Amira’s Holland’s Got Talent performance-what an amazingly talented little girl! I think it was just my ear, but was she singing in the Italian? She may have substituted a couple of vowels in there but that would certainly straighten out with time. I’ll look for something more recent…👍
@@auntiethetical . Yes, O Mio Babbino was in Italian. The imperfections you mentioned were soon sorted out. Watch her singing with Andre Rieu a few months later after he gave her a master class. Her second HGT offering, I believe, was in Latin. and the final (Nessun Dorma) in Italian. This, too, improved greatly when she sung it about three years later in South Africa (CIG 2017). At 12 she sang O Sole Mio with Patrizio Buanne. She is now 19. Very recently she sang an Italian hymn, Gesu Bambino, in an empty church in the Netherlands, with her father on the organ. There is much more.

The final vinceros were the most impressive I've heard (with perhaps the performance of Bocelli at the UEFA Euro 2020). I think it was just my ear, but was she singing in the Italian? She may have substituted a couple of vowels in there but that would certainly straighten out with time. I’ll look for something more recent…👍
@@auntiethetical . Yes, O Mio Babbino was in Italian. The imperfections you mentioned were soon sorted out. Watch her singing with Andre Rieu a few months later after he gave her a master class. Her second HGT offering, I believe, was in Latin. and the final (Nessun Dorma) in Italian. This, too, improved greatly when she sung it about three years later in South Africa (CIG 2017). At 12 she sang O Sole Mio with Patrizio Buanne. She is now 19. Very recently she sang an Italian hymn, Gesu Bambino, in an empty church in the Netherlands, with her father on the organ. There is much more.
