But, football and basketball are the only revenue generating sports and currently fund most other sports on campus. Meaning, by the time they divide that money will all sports, it won't be that much. Also, paying players makes them university employees meaning health insurance, 401K, retirement, etc. It would be cheaper to get rid of the sports programs.

It seems to be against the goals of schools and the NCAA not to allow college athletes to earn money from their likeness, because a college student athlete has a greater incentive to stay in college and finish earning their degrees. It is in the interest of education to allow student athletes to earn endorsement money, not only as an incentive for star athletes to postpone the pros and continue their education, but also to provide the student with the means to pursue his education inside of circumstances that are financially stress free.
It's very easy to simply prove that the ncaa is breaking worker rights. They athletes are doing work that is generating money for various entities, and aren't receiving monetary compensation. The "free education" is simply overhead for these entities to get paid.
