Frentzen was in the twilight of his career and wouldn't do significantly better than Jos. Add to that the expensive Cosworth engines 25 millions € per year and you have a recipe for disaster.

MetalMastodon Manufacturers don't need Formula 1 to develop their road cars. F1 has never been about road relevancy, any new technology like when Renault built the first F1 turbo engine back in 1977, came because they wanted to gain an advantage with a power-adder. Same with traction control, it was made to gain an advantage and later made its way into road cars as a safety feature. ERS on the other-hand, is forced on them in the regulations therefore is completely irrelevant to Formula 1. It's because they wanted to win, not because they wanted to improve road cars. F1 engines have never been road relevant, EVER. When has an F1 engine been road relevant before 2014? Were the V8s and V10s relevant? What about the V12's in the early 90s? Wait, maybe 1250hp Turbo engines are road relevant? Nope... So yes, manufacturers should go fuck themselves. They want to stay in F1 anyway, sure their PR department would cry "HOW DARE YOU" and cry about the climate change scam, but at the end of the day they want to be in F1 to win world championships, any manufacturer serious about F1 would stay in it. Ferrari would stay and that's all that matters, even if every team in a privateer and uses Ferrari engines, great!
