That awkward feeling when you just mentally answer a message and now you have to decide whether it's less embarrassing not to text back at all, text incredibly late with a random excuse, or buy tickets to Mexico and change your identity

This is how I react to every single message I get except those from my mum (because she will literally turn up at my house if don't answer within seconds). I'm in a permanent state of stress about it.

Messenger is the worse as you want to know what they have said process it and reply back naturally no matter how long that may take. But then they would have saw you have read it.

The social shield is exceptionally accurate. I have a really good extrovert friend that used to drag me to parties. I did pretty well just allowing him to talk and enjoying the back and forth; one of the guys noticed I wasn't talking and took that as a cue that I should be engaged. Within seconds of him introducing himself and attempting small talk, I grabbed my friend by the shoulder, turned him toward the guy, introduced him, and they proceeded to talk for the next 30 minutes. Successful disengage, redirect, and extraction from an uncomfortable bro conversation.

@@cinnamon.squirrel we are really worst when it comes to tell about things that make us uncomfortable but if it gets really bad you can understand from the behaviors. We start to distance ourselves and even though it is not so obvious you can feel the coldness. If it is not like that you are probably safe 😅

I didn't know it was a trend between introverts to require over 10 hours of sleep to feel refreshed, I feel slightly less odd now.
If I want to even so much as acknowledge your existence first thing in the morning, as an introvert, that means you're damn special to me.

Though I have to say sitting silently next to my equally introvert friend, arms slightly touching as we searched for various clips to show each other at 2 am in Berlin (not going out despite it being, you know, Berlin) is true bliss. I never fell calmer.

I have friends that claim to be introverts so they think they get it, but they don't understand that I'm on the extreme side of introversion so I can go weeks without talking to them verses they seem to think one week is a long time.
Something I found interesting: I am an introvert, and I have an extrovert friend I played video games with a lot. There's frequently like 1-3 minute breaks in talking between games and I never thought anything of it. But then he brought up to me that the silence is so awkward for him and I was just shocked when I heard that because it seemed so normal to not say anything when nothing is happening like on a loading screen or when nothing is happening. But to this guy he needs constant conversation about anything but i don't know what to talk about ever.

I might be introvert/extrovert, but I always enjoyed my alone time, and enjoyed being social as well. I seem more introvert now, because I've become choosy about who I want to spend time with, and it's narrowed down to 0.

I feel you on the "if you don't call me too often, i wouldn't let you go on voicemail". Coz that's my reason for not answering people back too. Just when i have the courage to call back, the same person keeps calling me back and i end up just leaving it as miscalls and hope whoever's calling, doesn't call again. Same goes with msging.
My extrovert son walks in to see me and says: "How can you stand living such a boring life"
I say: "I thought I was having fun."

As an introverted ambivert, most of these were spot on. I cope pretty well with social interaction, but I only really respond to or hang with a very select group of people. 😅
i honestly wish people would stop calling!!! If someone calls me, I usually let it ring and then reply back with a text "whats up" hahahahah But I honestly just despise being on the phone so so much
Dude literally soo true, it’s like just text me. Calls make me so uncomfortable 😩😑. Sometimes I even turn off my phone so that it might say “the number you are trying to reach is not available right now” .... am I a terrible person 😂

I've set up a boundary with my friends that they have to text me first to see if I'm available if they wish to chat on the phone. Still doesn't take away the despair of avoiding phone calls but it's a start 😅 semi gives me more control over when it's okay to have them 😅

The main role of my boyfriend in my life
I love it, as an ENFP i'd love being someone's social shield. Finding those silent introverts in social occasions and getting to know their mystery. I love adopting introverts and helping them do the social things they want to do but never have the enegry to. I am also terrible at messaging so its totally fine, I like the way we have one month gaps between our meet-ups because this way there's a lot to talk about.
I absolutely love my INFPs INTPs INFJs etc.. You guys are my shy cute kittens!
As an INFJ I really appreciate people like this, one of my closest friends who's an extrovert (probably ENFP) is always my "shield" at parties etc. Though when I'm drunk, I can more easily socialize with strangers lol. Most of my friends are extroverts so they are all kind of my "shields" at social occasions.
This hit really hard, but it was also reassuring knowing that other people feel this way.
I'm that Lucky person, who have friends that understand my introversion, and i was already honest by saying all of what you mentioned. And i still have those friends. God bless them.

kinda goes for anything but this is what I wish I could say to people.
Luckily I got some cool people who get it. Who especially get that i may not be stable enough to deal with people or just may need recharging. Unfortunately, not everyone is cool with it, even with a heads up or breadcrumbs.
