I just found a baby two days ago on my balcony in Germany and I observed whether his mother will pay a visit but haven´t seen any adult bird coming so I started feeding it and provide water. He (or she) is still quite fluffy with the down, without the real feathers so I brought him in a box inside the apartment over the night coz it was really stormy and the nights get rather cold. So far I give him canned sardines as I am not cooking much at home and I guess I^ll have to raise him until he´s able to take off the balcony:)
Crazy that most rescue animals have to get a certain diet to grow strong, but seagulls are literally able to be raised on table scraps
I guess that's one of the advantages of being a scavenger.

they are omnivores so yes they can eat anything and it's just so cute

That was a trip down memory lane for me..... I raised a seagull when I was 14 years old. He slept inside at night, but during the day he would free range in the yard with my mom's cats. They played tag, and napped together.
Seagull is very fun loving. He would come running when I whistled, and he'd laugh! He was also scrappy. He'd chase dogs out of the yard.

That's a cute story. I once tried to raise a seagull baby myself when I was 11 years old. Long story short, I picked up the seagull chick at a parkinglot, forgot to feed it and didn't do proper research. My little seagull chick survived until the night, and silently passed away. It was entirely my fault, and I still remember the event after 12 years.🥺
I don't wanna go into details but...if you're a child and want to keep a pet...DO YOUR RESEARCH!! It's easier nowdays than it was back in 2008...

I can imagine it is very easy to become attached to these fluffy, sweet babies. But the most loving act of this foster mom was raising this baby to go back to the wild. And that was one cute baby! Good job!

This is like the book The Story of A Seagull and The Cat Who Taught Her To Fly, from which they did the wonderful movie Lucky and Zorba. If you haven’t watched it or read the book do it! You won’t regret it, it’s deeply moving.

Without the parents who teach them to find food, it's going to be tough, everywhere it goes will be hostillity towards it, it will be attacked and attacked, because terriorty is everything. Unless it finds a group of fledglings to hang out with it may make it, chances are it will ponce about on the ground wandering around and mr fox will have it. That is the likelyhood.
Although they did the only thing they could, what they don't realise seagulls are not great at landing and take a while to learn that skill, which causes them to wander around ground level at night, unaware of the danger. It's chances are pretty slim. I have saved quite a few and some I have just left to the fox, especially if the parents are watching you. Every now and again I feel pity and bring one in. Yeah you can feed them, protect them and when they are ready to fly off, that is when it counts, but to be honest, seagull chicks are pretty dumb when it comes to their safety and I have seen plenty who can fly, but can't land properly and then spend most of their time, wandering around on the ground and then night time comes and you can hear their little screech has the badger or fox grabs them. Sad, you can only do so much.

Gulls are like feathered roaches. I wouldn’t be surprised if they somehow managed to survive or even thrive in a desert environment despite being a sea bird. Or even a radioactive toxic environment. Being able to thrive on almost any food source is one of the most effective evolutionary traits.

I worked for the city emptying garbage cans for two summers, and we operated heavy vehicles. We had a couple of seagull chicks completely oblivious hanging around where all the heavy vehicles would pass towards the garbage chute. I drove a lot that summer, and I paid extra attention to shoo the seagull chicks out of the way when I had to get to the chute. Someone, however, didn't. It was a heartbreaking sight seeing fluffy balls of cuteness turned 2D against the asphalt. 😭 I hope they enjoyed the first and last two weeks of their lives though. 😢

I remember in school and eating fries in the parking lot my McDonalds on lunch and a SeaGull was waiting for food and after throwing some fries out I threw a dead AAA battery in my cup holder out and it swallowed it.I never knew what happened to that bird lol,but the Seagulls where I live are almost solid white with a yellow beak.Wings are a little darker.
