I actually just got the point of this scene, and the subtle background acting. it's more than cassie's daydream breakdown, or her crisis of self though that is a lot of it. but she's so caught in the idea that she looks like she's dressed for Oklahoma that she completely forgets about lexi's play. she's so self-involved that that just skates right past her. and that's one of the main points of the play.
And I'm really dumb and hadn't grasped the fact that Cassie didn't know about the play, so while everyone is talking about the real Oklahoma, Rue is just going on confused about Lexis play and why would it have anything to do with Oklahoma. That, and what you said about Cassie's self-centerism, have made me realize how much more complex and coherent this scene was.

Casse did something shitty as a result of the trauma she has experienced. Every main character in the show behaves like a shitty person at some point for the same reason. It's called being human. I do not condone what cassie did. I ended a friendship because my (ex)best friend tried to have sex with my now-husband back in 1996. While the bond never healed because we drifted as people (would have happened anyway), we became adult friends again. What she did was kid shit. She was acting out. I did not feel the need to react with violence or like Maddie. Violence is for pussies unless it's self-defense. It solves nothing. I was just hurt to be betrayed but my 18-year-old self could not understand that my friend was only acting out due to issues I was unaware of. She lost her best friend and had to deal with the shame and embarrassment of being rejected and caught. That hurt her enough. I also acted out by saying cruel things to her about the situation. I was a DICK. People should cut Cassie some slack.
