Stay focused on what you want for your family.
I have friend who really love a bamboo house but then she worried about the typhoon, what she did, they constructed using concrete and then the design outside the house is made of bamboo like they attach the bamboo to the concrete. The inside is all bamboo .. it's good and nice and strong
Coco lumber and steel hardifllex
Half concrete half hardiflex cement combo
Just look around the entire Philippines and see how many of the pre hallow block homes are still standing. The original traditional homes, made of local materials are still standing everywhere you look. Yes storms do destroy many homes yearly but even the best engineered homes (See Slaters) receive damage and some are totally destroyed. I too live in a manufactured home here in the US. It’s over 3,000 square feet and has 15 inch walls. Engineering has come along way from “Mobile Home” manufacturing. Good luck Jay keep up the wonderful vlog….we will be watching.
PS if I could give some advice? Many people have suggested using locals to help, when moving into any new community that is a great way to make new friends and neighbors and it really helps the local economy…..
US is not Philippines. The "local materials" include stone, cement, narra. Not bamboo. The bamboo houses are the ones you see in the news scattered in pieces along the coasts after a storm.
This family is totally adopted being how to be resilience 🙏🙏🙏🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭👌❤️
Stay safe 8 miles from home! God bless your family!
You guys already pass the typhoon test.
Its both a blessing and a curse.
Hello Jay Sacha and Story and puppy too, have a good day and enjoyed your time together while staying in your dream land and thank you for sharing your life vlog always praying for your safety and have a great day, watching from Rodriguez Rizal Philippines.
Good evening, guys!
You may want to also try and get ideas from Jacinto Prefab Houses.
I would suggest building a separate all concrete small house within your property as a backup house/work space just in case. Always have a backup plan.
My suggestion to you guys is to visit the houses of the people who built their houses from CUBO and see how their houses are faring after all these years.
Be careful storm we must always ready
Jay & Sacha, make sure when the typhoon hit the island, you won't be floating in the middle of the ocean. Good Luck
Also my dream to own a cubo modular due to its sustainability. I'm looking forward to your new home. And how this prefab house holds up during the typhoon. Keep safe ❤
I love how Story talks, so innocent yet smart. On the first video of Poppy just listening to how she narrated will make you sleep.
Good luck on your house. I’m hoping for the best for this modular home. Anything new will raise eyebrows but what an innovation. Somebody wrote about the roofing reinforcement for typhoons and I agree. It’s the roofing that gives out during a typhoon. Ask Cubo about roof reinforcement.
Just wait and you will have your own🤗🤗🤗🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭❤️❤️❤️
I believe in eight miles of course they know the best for their upcoming building house
Take as many advices as you can then weigh the pros and cons of it. If your heart is at peace in the end, then you'll know you made the right decision.
I love to hear Story with the word water. She is so british 😊at Siargao environment which is amazing.
I’m soo excited to see ur new home bamboo how cool is that,I’m enjoying it all
Looking forward to watching your Cubo home building journey. I can see myself living in a modular home in the future, so I am quite excited to learn new things as well. ❤
Typhoon proof house can be seen in batanes. Check the egg dome houses of batanes
Takecare Always guys ! God bless ❤❤
GOD BLESS lovely fam...❤ I am amazed with Story's energy.
This is funny! Bouncing around? I thought you were making TikTok or something. 7:20 I keep on repeating it. 😆
stay safe 8 miles..
Bamboo vs. Concrete. Why not opt to consider a third option for all around tensile strength -steel. A couple of ship/van containers may suit the location uphill and away from saltwater beach. But then, it can be heavy lifting to start with but once anchored well on the ground can withstand gale-force winds during the tropical storm season. You can have it cut for maximum ventilation and light and can even wrapped the steel casing with cured bamboos for aesthetics. Just a suggestion from an avid subscriber.
Bamboo is very very strong but built it right and it has to be pressure treated
In some cultures, its people know to ask wiser, more experienced elders for advice. It takes hubris for an inexperienced, new home buyer to plunge forward alone thinking they can determine what is the best route. Some are too attached to their ideas and trusting of the manufacturers. One of the posters said he contacted bamboo home manufacturers and they refused to give him information. It is a big risk and not something to take too lightly when you have children.
Very smart Story!
best design for a wind proof house ,a round house.the wind just passes around them. The natives knew this years ago.i would go for concrete👍
God will protect u!
Given what you've experienced and recent news events -very important climate relevant conversation.
I like the previous commenter's design concept- bamboo curtain wall.
East Coast of PI is excellent storm resistant construction proving ground.
Tensile strength resistive capacity is spot on!
Due diligence is being practiced by you...like USA Babcock Ranch- also a research base Hurricane resistant residential construction. Good luck!
Typhoons and termites loves bamboos!
It’s treated so no termites, and engineered bamboo can withstand bamboo. Are you an architect?
I agree Jay. Bamboo is a lot sturdier than concrete. There are just too many cooks in the kitchen i guess.😅
Look up ICF houses , it’s know to withstand tornadoes and hurricanes winds over 100 mph with no damage
Keep safe always guys..storm is coming❤️🙏
Make sure you have a great foundation.
Excited to see your cubo bamboo home. It should be strong enough to withstand typhoon. Bamboo itself is strong, much more with engineered bamboo. They have a 50 year warranty so there's another layer of protection.
I'm planning to get a couple of homes from them as well but I hear the wait list is too long these days.
Keep safe 🙏
Story! Youre sooo smart and blooming into a little tenager! Were so excited to see your new home sweet home! God is in control and He will make you safe there!!! What a best life you have there!😂
As far as I know bamboo trees are really strong materials. And yes, the research you did was correct, that before building a house made of bamboo trees, research first if it is a durable material or not, so that the fatigue of the workers and the money that will be spent will not be wasted. Nice man..👍
Don't worry it becomes a boat! 😂
I choose bamboo. Because my house in provence Negros Oriental many typhoons passing for how many years until now our bamboo house still standing❤
Stay safe.
You need a round house like a lighthouse
I would build a house like the one you're in. Because it's tried and strong but with storm windows. 🤗🌞🌺
Stay safe 🙏
I love that laugh🤣! Dad said "a storm is coming" and she just laugh🤣👏👍!
Depends on how the bamboo house was erected or made?
Stay safe 8mfh
From all those preparations and precautions, I think the most important is God’s protection.. so everyday we pray that God will protect us from all these dangers and calamities and that is what I do because I am single and usually, I am living alone or sometimes with a relative most of the time. Take care
slab is the best option for a house here in the philippines..it can resist typhoon
Count year living here, then you will have your own kand🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️🇵🇭👌🙏🙏🙏
Bamboos are strong and resilient when they still planted on the ground. But after harvesting and use it as a material…never heard they last long….maybe need a good maintenance. Good luck!
Very early storm, ..before storms occured at the end of d year n northern mindanao, ...
i hope you get the house insured.
There is a type of house that you do not need roof gutters. And it is typhoon proof as there are no sharp edges. It featured in Bicol from local news
I've watched that cubo modular houses. They are beautiful. And someone said it can withstand typhoon or earthquake. Hope it can. ❤
just called them 08/09/2023 sad to say the prev models they have are phase out BATANES, BULACAN and the SARANGANI model the one they have currently is the BATANGAS that is cost 699K and it does not include the extras if you need to update that kind of amount you can build a 3 bedroom concrete house on that price although they said that they can customize a design in which i prefer the BATANES model since im the only one staying it as a tiny house which it does not make sense at all units are phase out but you can customize it! sad reality is that few years back they have a vision on having poor people to have a HOME but it was just only a GIMMICK .
I think you just continue what you want to plan. It sustainable & strong one as well. Living in front of sea front is nice but no exemption on strong typhoon bcoz its very open. Your location is good
Safety first
A properly engineered and strongly anchored bamboo structure will be able to whitstand a storm. I have no doubt of it.
What you have chosen with Cubo is very good , don’t worry going Down that path . Then decided that We Will be using rammed earth and we think it’s going to the first one in the Philippines
You ought to termite proof the soil around the perimeter and underneath the house.
And u think bamboo house can withstand hurricane :)
consider also a container van house design
Storm proof houses is a must…like the house at Zambales and Okinawa Japan made from Stone House…better do a little research for some ideas, for what kinds of house should you built there…who knows…you will be the first to have that kind of typhoon 🌀 proof tropical house,i also notice pd its windy near by the seashore.
There is a way to make bamboo houses typhoon resistant. For hundreds of years people have been using bamboo houses in the Philippines, and during the Spanish era it was a combination of stone & bamboo/wood(Bahay na bato), and those have stood the test of time.
It really just depends on the design and build quality. That's the most important thing. Make sure you're not getting scammed, as I'm sure you already know. It's always good to double check, especially with the Philippines being quite literally the most disaster-prone country in the world.
I've personally got no experience with bamboo housing since I live in a concrete house in the highlands. But I do know there are scams out there that builds things that aren't up to code when it comes to earthquake resistance. I reckon the same goes for typhoon/flood resistance.
The bamboo might not break, so it might fly away intact. You'll have an intact flying house. I hope cubo really knows what they are doing.
They have spent years researching storm resilience design, we are convinced that it will survive a typhoon and earthquakes also
Prayer ask for God's help is the best protection of all.❤
Lots of tons of strong houses here in usa and theyre really strong though, but when natural calamities passed, everything will turn into trash. So, whatever materials to use in constructing a house, its not matter if theyre strong or not, if it means to break, it will.
If a Typhoon is coming, get some giant tarps , cover your roof and the bigger the better , use some rope/lines and make some 3 foot stakes and drive them in the ground , put a lot of them , at least 4 per side , you can also use large nets , just make sure the ropes don’t just go to the grommet, they need to go over the tarps and tied to the grommet also ,
So I researched Cubo , probably don’t need tarps , but I would still use ropes over the house staked into the ground, to hold down the roof , in a typhoon
Concrete foundation and storm impact windows like we have here in Florida which can withstand a category 5 (worst category) of storms like Odette was on your end.
From what I've read from the Cubo website, they use concrete foundation that will be built by their partner builder(s).
@@smcs If they are not strong, then a lot of new buildings would have collapsed already.
About the bamboos. I don't think anyone believes that a bamboo will break in half during a storm. But can a house made of bamboos stay in place under a Category 5 typhoon?
Not without impact resistant windows and a strapped down roof. A house is as strong as it’s ‘weakest link’. My guess those will be the windows.
Just to be sure. If you really want that bamboo type house, then you should just build a bunker type room beside it.
Well bamboo is a wind breaker, its good also to put bamboos facing the wind pressure so that your house will be supported, less tense of wind blowing your house. Cut also coconut tree around your house, you know coconut fall😖😵💫, if your lot have coconut let locals get it for you, make a coconut fruit salad, but of course you have to pay the guy climbing😁 you can also make a short movie “ story the island girl” 😁😜 from learning to swim to growing island girl🤙😎
I have no problem with a bamboo house in a typhoon prone area. it is more on how sturdy the house was built..
super typhoons normally comes during August to Dec...I think this is just a normal storm of less than 100kph of wind...
How was your Easter holiday? Did you have an Easter egg hunt with Story? Anyway, I hope you had a nice holiday. Story is looking older and I just love the way she talks. She has the gift of gab, and someday she might be a T.V announcer or a journalist
The incoming typhoon is not a supertyphoon so there is nothing to worry.
Bamboo is different from concrete but bamboo has qualities than surpasses the qualities of concrete!
Build the wind side of concrete and the lee side of bamboo lol..does Cubo give any guarantees ?…twill be interesting to see the build, all the best in your endeavors 🙏🏻👍🏻🇵🇭
Bamboo are strong when it is properly use 😅😊
👍
DOST Pag-Asa is the most legit weather forcaster.
It's wise to always listen, listen & listen to those who know... & then pray about what you should do... others can give you valuable information/ advice - but you have to be satisfied
I wonder if you're going to have more dogs to patrol the perimeter of your new property once you move in to another location?
Concrete is better..for Lifetime stay☺️
❤❤
It is very very very unusual for Philippines to have a storm during Summer. Summer time here is April and May. My whole life being here it never rained during April.
Then you are living under a rock. The past decade has been unpredictable and most typhoons happen during the driest months.
@@renzdeguzman3791 and i guess it depends where you are in the Philippines. Living under the rock… nice one
@@markfonacier383 I don't know what your point is but the fact that you are unaware what's happening around the country says a lot about your general knowledge.
" A complete opposite" She never fail to amaze me.The chatty little one.
From what I’ve seen, after some strong storms and hurricanes in PH, the tiny bamboo houses seem to be the ones less damaged. It’s odd how good strong bamboo holds up better than some concrete homes.
But what about when there is a fire?
Bamboo is probably not very safe!? Maybe think about a house of stones? I want you to be safe!❤
There are more fires in this country involving concrete and metal homes than those made of bamboo. Bamboo is also more fire-resistant than most similar materials. It is also very strong which is why it is still preferred scaffolding material in some countries.
Loads of fire in the Philippines 🇵🇭 that all bamboo houses blaze with in a minute
This is from their website:
"While no natural wood material is completely fire-proof, engineered bamboo’s self-extinguishing properties make it a superior material over traditional wood. Our engineered bamboo adheres to global fire standards with a B2 Fire Rating based on DIN 4102 Fire Resistance Test Standard. This corresponds to normal inflammability as a global building material."
This is not just any bamboo they are using, this is engineered bamboo. You can look it up if you have time.
At the risk of giving just another "advice" or "opinion", I would make sure the house had one concrete room, to be used as your "bunker" when the weather gets bad.
I think concrete lasts longer with the kind of weather we have on the Philippines especially in the island...
as long as the location of your house is sheltered from the habagat winds, it wont be much of an issue.
Well this time price of bamboo is expensive especially in the area where bamboo is not abundant and you need to maintain always against the insects and defects due to weathering causes. You can use bamboo in some parts of house like wall and floor only. Due to flexibility of bamboo it can resist horizontal load due to wind and earthquake too.
The foundation of your House it should be concrete and the bomboo some other parts of the house, good luck eight mile family ❤️
Also if you know construction, there are ways to completely anchor your roof to the foundation, with hurricane clips and metal straps
From what I've read about Cubo, they do this to all of their houses if I'm not mistaken. But you can look it up to be sure.
Think about having concrete house, rather than bamboo. I am from the Philippines 🇵🇭 and although bamboo is looking good, over time it can’t stand a strong typhoon.
I have built a sturdy bamboo house in the farm I’m developing there, and it stands about 5 strong typhoons for couple of years, now replaces it with concrete. Just actually finished early months this year
They are not just using any regular bamboo, like the one you built in your farm. They are using engineered bamboo, developed by engineers to withstand the environmental conditions in our country, it's a breakthrough material that won international awards. You can look it up. And not only that, they will be assisted by real engineers and architects to build their house using that material. Plus Cubo also uses concrete foundation for their houses. If you have time, you can look all these up.
Guaranteed for 50 years. That bamboo is treated. I will have that kind of material rather than concrete.
Jay: Storm is coming !
Story : hahaha
I think she’s used to living in the tropics 😅😅
