5.57... Mic stand backhand throw 20ft in the air then catch, then throw across stage later to retrieve with his heel. He's basically a singing performing Messi, only better. Farnesy is the best that's ever been imo. Got many genre's covered with his unparalleled skill. Great bloke and live performer/ entertainer too. Love ya JF
John Farnham's voice is amazing. His range is amazing. His controlled breathing is amazing. He can run up and down a stage and never lose a beat, a note. I think Freddy Mercury was the same. Such natural talent ! Not like today with mics glued to them like they are undercover coppers. No, REAL TALENT !!!
The only artist in Australia who's concerts could out sell international artists. Even Michael Jackson didn't stand a chance when he toured at the same time as Farnsey. Also only artist in Australia who has has number 1 hits in 6 consecutive decades from 1967 (when he was 18) right through till 2016 (when he was 67) Not many international artists have even managed that feat. And still currently holds the record for the highest selling Australia album for his whispering Jack Album that this song was the lead single from. He also holds the record for winning the most ARIA australian music awards. Although now shares the top spot with Silver Chair . He was still performing and the major draw card for fund raising concerts in his 70's Sadly he recently, had surgery to remove a cancer from his jaw so probably will never perform live again but the whole of Australia is behind him wishing him a full and speedy recovery. You definatly have to check him out singing his version of Beatles classic HELP. His arrangement of the song really changes it up and is perfect. Live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Orchestra is the best version online
Always, always do John Farnham live. He takes all his songs to the next level for his audience. There are several you should do from this concert, There is 1 exception to live performance. There is only audio. "Black Dog". This is his warm up song before a concert. Will blow you away! He has never performed it live. All Australia is sending John love after his 11 hour surgery for cancer, and wishing him a speedy recovery.💖
We love the bagpipes in Australia. We have Scottish bands in most parades and at events. Scottish people emigrated to Australia and some of them and their following generations became musicians. From the name of this song, John Farnham is known as 'The Voice' in Oz because he also has one of the best voices in popular music in the world with a huge vocal range and perfect pitch. The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra loved working with him and stated that they had never had so much fun before in a concert.
When John heard this song for the first time he said "We need Bag Pipes!" His voice is phenomenal! He's not called the Voice of Australia for nothing! Great reaction Hap..as Always!
John Farnham is The Voice, an absolute Aussie legend who can sing any genre of music and out sing anyone on the planet. Do yourself a favour and check out his version of Help from the same concert or Long Way to the top. He’s a great entertainer and his live performances are epic. At the moment he’s recovering from cancer surgery and we’re all sending him love and wishing him a speedy recovery.
Johns last name "the H is silent" Aussie pronounce it Farn-am and Melbourne is pronounced Melbin. John earned the title of "The Voice" and now after watching him you know why. His voice is pitch perfect. Every concert was always sold out. The best thing about John is that he sounds the same live or the studio. He has been onstage with international artists Olivia Newton John, Brian May (Queen), Stevie Nicks, Lionel Richie and Tom Jones.
You had the best of the best up on that stage, from John, to his band, the backing singers and then the Melbourne Symphony orchestra, that was world class, and a live performance to boot. None of this lip syncing garbage that the rest of the world does. There are lots of Scots here in Australia. I live in the Southern Highlands and we have a small village called Bundanoon that becomes Brigadoon once a year with all the pipe bands and they have the Australian version of the Scottish Games. So yes there is a big Scottish contingent here in Oz. Even John is English/Australian his family came out as a migrants, so we claim him as OURS. He’s a very special man, who needs all our love and support right now. ❤️❤️❤️
John Farnham is a national treasure and amazingly unknown outside Australia. He's as wonderful a person off stage as he is a performer on stage. He was the first person Queen approached to be their lead singer after Freddy Mercury. He has sung rock, soul, broadway, opera, pop - he's called The Voice for a reason. Check out his song Help from the same concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra - it's a Beatles cover, and John Lennon said it's how the song was intended to be sung. The duet "When something is wrong with my baby" with Jimmy Barnes is another stellar performance.
It's ok mate, I'm over twice your age, and I tear up every time when the piper and John salute each other. So much more to discover from this concert, the best concert EVER!! G'day from Australia.
The Young Bros were actually NSW, they struggled until Bon Scot from Perth joined them. There's a statue of Bon at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, down the road from his grave. Springsteen was busted visiting his grave at midnight on a tour.
John does this to all reactors. Always gets ya in the feels. Wow. Australia loves ya Farnsey. Should be an Anthem for the world. We ALL have a VOICE. We need to use it😊👍🏼🇦🇺❤️
One thing you will discover with John is how wonderful his voice is. How powerful his voice is. A lot of his songs have very good messages. Slow. Fast. Different genres of music. He does it all. You go home from one of his concerts on a very big high. They are all brilliant. To have an orchestra with him only highlights how powerful his voice is. In Australia we have had over 50 years of being entertained by John and his wonderful band. Enjoy the journey. This is only the start Sending love and good vibes to John and his family 💕💕
Many of us Aussies are direct descendants from Scotland. I am 50-50 Irish and Scottish, Australia was a British colony which I’m sure you must know! We also have our own tartan which is proudly worn by the bagpipe player here. AC/DC of course also used bagpipes (Bon Scott was Scottish-Australian).
The song was written by a scot, who had slept in when he wanted to go to a protest in scotland. There are a lot of scottish descendants living here, generations of us. A commenter said that piper was in full official rig for Melbourne. Kudos to him, for getting all kitted out, and filling his bag, without a droning sound to be heard, all for a few moments.
No problem making noise getting those bagpipes filled up behind the scenes when Farnsey singing. His voice is so powerful a 747 could have taken off behind the stage and no one would have been any the wiser
Yes, can see how an Aussie legend with a bagpipe solo would seem a little strange but apparently when John first got his hands on this song he could hear the bagpipe solo in his head. Maybe it's the anthemic nature of the song itself but it certainly works! "It's a Long Way to the Top" by Aussie band ACDC also featured bagpipes. If you like his sound, watch other performances from this show as the orchestra just makes this legend even better. He delivers pitch perfect live performances every time. His arrangement and cover of the Beatles "Help" is phenomenal.
Ok so you really need to see his version of the Beatles' Help at this same concert. If you thought this was good, that one will blow your mind. Thanks for reacting to our John 💖
It has unofficial National Anthem status in Australia. You should hear Robbie Williams sing it as a tribute to John Farnham at the Aussie Rules grand final back in September. It was a sight and sound to behold, when a big part of the crowd of 100,024 sang along with Robbie.
It's actually considered our unofficial anthem here in Oz! John has recently underwent successful lifesaving surgery for throat cancer and the entire country wishes him and his family well.
John is phenomenal and an Aussie treasure! If you want to have your ears blown off by double the talent you should listen to Something Is Wrong With My Baby by John and Jimmy Barnes.
Johns live performance of It's a long way to the top, with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is epic. Along with so many, many John Farnham performances. He is the jewel in the Crown of Australian music.
Welcome to the world of JF,John is loved by Aussies and considered as the G.O.A.T. This concert is unbelievable. John always put’s his heart and soul into everything he performs. There’s so many great songs, I believe if you continue to react to our John, you will realise why we love and respect him.John is not just a singer he’s a great performer and a beautiful human. I’m Scottish decent as are a lot of Aussies born here so nothing unusual about the bagpipes here
Mind blowing absolutely mind blowing. My goodness he’s good looking. Powerful power voice. Haha the microphone stand throw and catch and throwing it up by his foot…can’t get better than that! The absolute best entertainer that ever lived. And a great wonderful bloke. Kind, humble, so so funny, good horseman, great husband and father, great loyal friend. Great man.
Oh my gosh, this was really quite a build up! He made it look so easy to sing, but yeah his voice is something special. Thank you for sharing this epic performance on the channel. Loved it. Awesome reaction 💙
🔥🎼💕💥 I thought I recognized that powerful melodic voice from somewhere...Littlr River Band. I didn't realize he was a Teen pop idol at one time and has had such a phenomenal solo career! This performance is epic. 🎶🤯 Hap, no words were even necessary on your part. Your reaction was written all over your face. I am blown away💣🌬 Peace J ✌ ☮💕🦂
He had the highest selling Australian single of the 1960's and he took over from the original lead singer of LRB Glenn Shorrock but I think Glenn had the better songs
@hap3speakz There are some great Australian bands that deserve some channel arresting, as well. MEN AT WORK "Down Under" ua-cam.com/video/ejorQVy3m8E/v-deo.html and MIDNIGHT OIL "Beds Are Burning" ua-cam.com/video/XfR9iY5y94s/v-deo.html Just to name a couple.
Bagpipes are huge in Australia. All States have many Pipe Bands. My Maternal Grandmother was a Scot, she married my Welsh Grandfather. They emigrated to Australia in the 1920's. Whenever I hear the 'Pipes' they bring me to tears. I guess the Scottish blood I have in my veins is very strong in my genes.
Oh, this brings back great memories. I know this song very well, but this performance in combination with this orchestra was just EPIC. Yeah and „let the music do the talking“. The song doesn’t need explanation, because the title speaks for itself „You’re The Voice“🕶️💥. Thanks for this uplifting reaction HAP🥰🙋🏻♀️.
Thanks for the reaction bro much appreciated. John is a legend and the best in the business. Should react to him singing a Beatles classic “help” live at this same concert with the MSO
Felt your reaction bro, the last couple of years probably has a play in the emotions, but John farnham was preaching all the way back then, for now, We'er not gonna sit in silence, We'er not gonna live in fear, dont route me word for word, but his voice is definitely a voice that needs to be heard right now, I call him the "COS", and I do feel if he is heard further then The Australian shores, his voice will be one of the voices that will help the healing. Awesome reaction
Another few great Aussie acts to react to, cold chisel - wild thing. Midnight oil - stand in line live. The Angels - once bitten twice shy. There was no better live music scene in the 80's than in Australia
Yep, I'm a celtic Australian..... my grandmother was born in Belfast to Scottish parents, and my grandfathers parents were English..... loooooove the bagpipes, celtic dancing etc.... did it all during my childhood lol xx
Watch playing to win John Farnham with the Melbourne symphony orchestra, also it's a long way to the top with the Melbourne symphony orchestra as well. Great man great singer gives his all and has fun whilst delivering the goods
Great reaction thank you. I'm Glad you've finally discovered and appreciated our phenomenal National Treasure, John Farnham! Like thousands of others here in Australia, I've loved him for 50 years and been so privileged to have been in the audience of many of his phenomenal concerts. It is just so amazing to actually be there and experience seeing him perform live, with his fantastic band of talented musicians , plus the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra! It's Absolutely Awesome!!
You need to listen at the same concert singing HELP and also he does a sound check sing BLACK DOG from led zeppelin, incredible he is our ledgend we love him he's gone through allot but the man is the nicest person you'll ever meet, he didn't want to make it big anywhere else but OZZ 🇦🇺👍
I'm so glad you found our Farnsey! I could see how moved you were. I saw that concert when the tour began in Brisbane, and the energy was the same - John always over-delivers, but this was next level. I was on an endorphin high for a week. The taping was on the last night of the tour, but everyone is as fresh as if it was the first.
So happy you’ve found John, he is who we Australian’s call the voice, you could say our answer to Steve Perry. Both brilliant. I don’t know why I didn’t watch this earlier, I can’t remember it being in my notifications sooner. I’m definitely going too have to check my UTube , because I wouldn’t have missed it. Bloody UTube, 1 minute they are praising me for having watched over 32,000 different songs last year and opened up the world of music for new and other UTuber’s and now I’m only now 1 month after you’ve reacted to these songs do I get notified. I seem too have been getting all your other posts. Anyway not too worry, all I would like to say is enjoy the ride with John and you might want to take a look at John and Jimmy Barnes singing together, monumental. 🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇬🇧🕺🏻💃🎸☘️
Farnham got the idea of the bagpipes from AC/DC’s “It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)”, the video clip for which was filmed in central Melbourne, Farnham’s (and my) home town.
Going to a John Farnham concert was like being at a big party where one of the guests happened to be a great singer. John has never had any airs and graces and was not interested in taking his talents overseas. He chose to stay in Australia to be with his family. All of Australia is behind him as he recovers from cancer surgery.
This was great! You definitely got the message of it. Isn't John fantastic?! Like someone else said below: watch the same concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra when John sings HELP. It's the famous Beatles song but a totally different arrangement. It's amazing - would live to see you react to it :)
John Farnham from Dagenham Essex? John's The Voice of Australia so don't tell the Poms. One important time that John sang this he had about 12 or more pipers. I don't remember the venue. Was it the Logies or perhaps the Olympics? Does anyone remember the specific occasion? I just remember that it was wonderful anyway.
Your next song help with same Melbourne symphony orchestra The bag pipes are the majority of Australian's come from UK John was born their and came out as a child Also another ledgen Jimmy barnes has UK heritage as well Like I said earlier large part of Australian's are or have English background
It is so powerful a song, and so emotive; it was a song for then, as much as it is a song for now. I could see, you were hit by the emotion of the song; I get it everytime I hear it, especially this performance. And it can only played with the bagpipes; it would be unaustralian to do otherwise!
8:27 lol yes the bagpipes... Ok firstly the Scottish great pipes are historically "war pipes". Meant for rallying the soldiers/army. The musical arrangement of "The Voice" gives itself to a marching or call to arms kind of vibe. But the message is a call to freedom from conflict, war, and hate. A desire for a better future. Written back in the 80s in response to changing times and attitudes. But the message is again super relevant today as the world has gotten lazy and slipped back into war and bigotry. Time to fire up those war pipes again! ;) Yes this orchestral version is the best version of this song ❤️
You have just started down a very big rabbit hole. Any song by John Farnham will amaze and move you especially from this concert. The next reaction should be to "Help" by the Beatles. John has reworked the arrangement to create a totally different interpretation of the song.
Lots of Scots moved to Australia decades ago. I knew more Scots that English so lots of band members had their roots in Scotland. Even AC/DC had a song featuring the bagpipes. It was common to see bagpipes in marches and parades back then than it is today, unfortunately, but there you have it.
If I was religious, I'd say Farnsey is an angel sent by God to show us how it's done. This is power Gabriel would bring. Proud to be an Aussie, so privileged to grow up listening to his songs.
I loved your reaction to this song from John, he is a fantastic singer and his live performances are really something to see and appreciate. He can sing any type of song and he is also a bit of a comedian. John has sung with many international artists like Tom Jones, Celine Dione, Olivia Newton-John, Stevie Nicks, Lionel Ritchie & Anthony Warlow. When checking out songs, look at the live performances, especially with the Melbourne Sympathy Orchestra and his duets with Olivia & Anthony in "The Main Event". John also sings with Jimmy Barnes and a great duet with his longtime backing singer (Lisa Edwards) singing "Angels".
I guess you could also “What has Mel Gibson (Australian Actor - Braveheart) got to do with Scotland”? Nothing I suspect. Same answer applies to the bagpipes.
Hi, Hap! As you, I got to know John Farnham at the Australian Firefighters concert just before the pandemia. I also knew the song but I'd never heard it in a concert. I immediately checked John F. and got some info on him. If I remember right he was born in England but he feels more Australian than English. He really loves Australia and Australia loves him. And I also love him from Venezuela💖💖 Happy New Year, Hap!
John is a force of nature. His voice, his passion, his love for his audience! Three other covers that always stun me: "Help" ua-cam.com/video/dv54giOSRKs/v-deo.html "Long way to the Top" ua-cam.com/video/73X_z_zW4Sg/v-deo.html and "Black Dog" ua-cam.com/video/F2Yi6TVi-sU/v-deo.html
How lucky are we as Australians to have grown up listening to this amazingly talented man
F**k yeah. AUSSIE! AUSSIE! AUSSIE.. I Don't think there is a single person in Australia who doesn't know THE VOICE.. LEGEND!!!
AMEN
My mother wasn't descended from Scotland but has always loved bagpipes. We have many pipe bands in Australia.
We were lucky in many things, the ease of seeing our artists at the local pub. Those days are gone.
5.57... Mic stand backhand throw 20ft in the air then catch, then throw across stage later to retrieve with his heel. He's basically a singing performing Messi, only better. He very recently had a major jaw reconstruction after having cancer. He may never sing again. I love this song.
John owns this song ,nobody comes close to him.Pure Genius
Check out his performance of the Beatles song Help with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He takes it to a whole new level and makes it his own.

The piper was also wearing the official Australian Tartan.

Hi from Australia.
You now need to react to John Farnham singing The Beatles - HELP from the same concert with the MSO. The way that John sings Help, he owns it.
That song, so powerful, uplifting full of hope!! It could be an anthem!! Your honest sincere emotional reaction is priceless!! 💜🎵💜🎵

There's more where that came from... always check out his live concert videos. See his arrangement of HELP. Many others.
Australia had pipe bands in nearly every town. We have an Australian tartan. It was John's decision to use bagpipes

Thanks for this emotional reaction. He is magnificent. He is the voice. Next should be his version of Help. Same concert with the MSO
John Farnham is amazing. Such a legend. What a voice!
This was absolutely stunning! Fantastic choice!
You are so right Hap3. Queen were amazing with an orchestra also.
Another few great Aussie acts to react to, cold chisel - wild thing. Midnight oil - stand in line live. The Angels - once bitten twice shy. There was no better live music scene in the 80's than in Australia
You aren't alone with the tears.
Simply amazing! Thank you Australia! Cheers from America!
Thank you too!
Cool, thanks!
The song is an anthem here.
John Farnham also did a lovely version of "Mary's Boy Child," as did Angelina Jordan. Her version is one of the sweetest I've ever heard.
You need to listen at the same concert singing HELP and also he does a sound check sing BLACK DOG from led zeppelin, incredible he is our ledgend we love him he's gone through allot but the man is the nicest person you'll ever meet, he didn't want to make it big anywhere else but OZZ
🇦🇺👍
If you liked that watch his cover of The Beatles' HELP! It is even better. I was at this concert & he is much loved here.
x L
Another great band that has been around for a while called the seekers and the song" I am Australian"
He also has done some work with our King of Rock Jimmy Barnes - WHEN SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY BABY ua-cam.com/video/ihsfx1LuoKc/v-deo.html
Please listen to John's cover of the Beatles Help from the same concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra - absolutely phenomenal
The 60's 70's 80's and 90's the songs had so much meaning?
Your next song help with same Melbourne symphony orchestra
The bag pipes are the majority of Australian's come from UK
John was born their and came out as a child
Also another ledgen Jimmy barnes has UK heritage as well
Like I said earlier large part of Australian's are or have English background
Thanks for your awesome discription of John Farnham singing. He is a master. Much love from Queensland Australia 🦘❤
Nice reaction. Plenty more to get you feeling amazed at John. Pick anything, he never disappoints. Always amazing. Always do live if it’s an option. 👍
Great reaction! John is a legend... and the song carries a beautiful message!
That was one of my first concerts I was like 10 my whole family went it was so unbelievably amazing
It is so powerful a song, and so emotive; it was a song for then, as much as it is a song for now. I could see, you were hit by the emotion of the song; I get it everytime I hear it, especially this performance. And it can only played with the bagpipes; it would be unaustralian to do otherwise!
Absolutely LOVED your reaction 🥰
Powerhouse❤
Bagpipes called the highland Scots to war. Another layer of irony do you think.
Time to fire up those war pipes again! ;)
Yes this orchestral version is the best version of this song ❤️
Our great Aussie John.
You have just started down a very big rabbit hole. Any song by John Farnham will amaze and move you especially from this concert. The next reaction should be to "Help" by the Beatles. John has reworked the arrangement to create a totally different interpretation of the song.
A multi-generational protest anthem performed by a master vocalist. Where to from here... Farnham live with the MSO - Help?
They are part of the Orchestra
Lots of Scots moved to Australia decades ago. I knew more Scots that English so lots of band members had their roots in Scotland. Even AC/DC had a song featuring the bagpipes. It was common to see bagpipes in marches and parades back then than it is today, unfortunately, but there you have it.
If I was religious, I'd say Farnsey is an angel sent by God to show us how it's done. This is power Gabriel would bring. Proud to be an Aussie, so privileged to grow up listening to his songs.
Check out John doing AC DC it’s a long way to the top same concert to see the MSO rocking out is gold 😂
Not Lionel or Stevie.
A wonderful reaction. We pronounce Melbourne more as Melbun here. I enjoyed this, thank you.
👍
👍
I guess you could also “What has Mel Gibson (Australian Actor - Braveheart) got to do with Scotland”? Nothing I suspect. Same answer applies to the bagpipes.
Bagpipes also used to great effect in long way to the top by AC/DC, love em.
Good to know!
