Back in the late 70's, I ran a tube mill at Saginaw Steering Gear..GM. We made a variety of drive shafts. The steel was alot wider..6000 to 7000 lbs coils. We ran the excess steel thru the overhead to make the butt welds so the machine won't shut off. Average speed on a 2 3/4" tube was 145'/minute.
