Ft Lauderdale is my home town and i have been in the marine industry for 30 years so seeing your crossing and final touch down in such a familiar place was very cool but a tad emotional to see you saying goodbye to giraffe. I think you should consider running a sailing school with an emphasis on crusing. You would make an excellent teacher. Good luck in California. BTW....what is Dave doing these days? I awoke early Sunday morning, with a coffee in my hand I just happened to go online and to my pleasant surprise i noticed your newly uploaded video. Josh, I was so disappointed that it was "only" 17 minutes. I was captivated and wanted more. Josh, you did a phenomenal job, I felt for a moment the sadness too when you left your boat behind. Great editing and you added the perfect sound track! Sorry to see this adventure come to an end, sad to see Dave won't be around but I'm anticipating some great videos of your new boat. I was reading a few of the comments and totally agree that you have been an inspiration to many and I myself am currently searching for a sailboat this year and live the adventure that you've shown is possible.

Dam i had a feeling that you were going on to other things. I think im about the same age as you and I envy your adventure. I have had a dramatic life changing event last year and it has me wanting to sail even more now in the BVI. But unfortunately i have no idea how to sail and i have very little savings. Im not even sure if i would like the life style, but want to try at least. My dreams may be bigger than my pocket book. And thats how the rat race gets you. I will be re-watching your sea adventures to try to keep my dream to solo sail the Bahamas and BVI alive. Keep doing what you are doing and dont look back..
My father was in the Navy. He LOVED sailing. We used to sail the Ohio River with my mom, she loved sailing too. She died in 2000 after an 8 year battle with ovarian cancer and my father nearly died of a broken heart after her. A dear family friend who lost her husband a few years before saved his life. She, however, is scared to death of water so he sold his sailboat, he loved that O'Day. He hasnt been on a sailboat since. He did buy a canoe that he later made out riggers for. He loves to tinker with stuff and he tinkered around with the idea of putting a bit of triangle on the old town canoe, but wifey said enough is enough, you're told old and he sold the canoe. I have been trying to get a sailboat to both live on and take my dad out sailing on. Between losing my business and covid I havent been able to get that boat. My dad is in his 90's and still going strong, but Im running out of time, for him and myself.......

Josh during the shallow bank that you needed to cross, was it not possible to go around? Navigating shallows is the most mind blowing part to sailing to me!
Hey Alex, It wasn't really possible to go around. I guess technically you could but it would be another day of travel time. It's a big area on the map between Nassau and Bimini / Cat Cay area. Dave knew we were going to be fine and, after looking at the chart, it appeared deep enough. Thanks for being a long-time subscriber!
No. You can actually lay them on the side without a problem (at least I've never had a problem) as long as it's only on the correct side (one side bad, other side fine), from my experience.
