Every time Chris uploads I look at the profile picture notification and I'm like "wait, who's that?" and then it hits me that we're blessed with another legendary animation lol
While I find it a bit uncanny how all fingers were able to circle at the same time, it's amazing how realistic the hand looks even without textures. The nerves alone already sells it for me.
The uncanny part is how the fingers are so incredibly mobile and independent. Most people can't curl their pinky while keeping their ring finger fully extended.
Yep, and even when passively moved (e.g. by another hand) most joints at the base of the finger don't allow for quite that much range of motion, since they're elliptical joints and not ball-and-socket
@@vulfura Tendons are what muscles turn into at their ends/how they attach to bones, so if you were missing any tendon, you'd have less mobility than average, not more. :P Sounds like you've just got more precise neurologic control of the muscles controlling that hand! It's more about nuance in terms of neuroactivation than it is about gross anatomy, really. Usually people who can isolate a finger relatively closely to this are piano players or similar ... since you said only on your left hand, I'm guessing you play guitar or violin or something else with a lot of dextrous left hand activity? I could be wrong but it's fun to guess lol
woooow, the tendon placement is anatomically correct! they go all the way up to the carpals & everything! rigging the tendons in addition to the hand bones makes perfect sense. they're like a second set of smaller/more flexible 'bones' that drape over the real ones - rigging both would enable more precise control over the model while enhancing the sense of realism. incredible work, i'm so inspired!
This rig actually looks really realistic. The joints of each finger are able move around freely while still being restricted (like actual hands!!!!!). I must congratulate you on your amazing ability to animate humans so beautifully!
Its about tendons, not joints, it shows how the muscle part react to moving the rig/bone, and he done it realisticly, but yeah rigs nowdays have applied limit rotation so it simulate real movement :)
I don't understand why it looks so perfect and real. No texture, no ray tracing, no special lighting. Just a model, animation and interaction. But it still... feels so real! This channel is worth having notifications set for any new content! Can't wait for 2024 to see your next video! 😄
I don't believe for a second that anyone in this thread did it with actual isolation, that is, truly holding the other fingers still, unless 1. You only tried it with your index finger (cheat mode), or 2. You've played piano or some other relevant instrument for many years. It can be trained, for sure -- but neurologically, virtually no one can just execute that sort of specific isolation without lots of repetitive practice e.g. years of piano, especially if you're trying to isolate the motion of the ring finger or pinky finger. (Also bending at the middle of the finger alone doesn't count; the video clearly depicts elliptical joint movement of the joint at the base of the finger, not just hinge movement at the first interphalangeal joint.)
For fully realistic movement, you have to account for the fact that fingers don’t have fully independent movement. The flexor profundas/superficialis and extensor digitorum muscles are multitendon muscles, which restricts degrees of freedom. Probably why this animation looks “creepy”, it’s not totally accurate human anatomy
@@rq4740 the tendons part is the accurate one, when people make hands its just with your average bones for animation. Sure its not 100% accurate but its more than enough.
