Saw the recent news of Tinubu passing the bill for region governance, so that each state will be more independent. I hope that it happens. Given the PH provides 30% of the country's revenue, we will be able to develop our city and Rivers as a whole.

Bro, The discovery of coal in Ngwo led to the founding of two great cities in Eastern Nigeria Enugu (1904) for coal mining; Port Harcourt aka Iguocha (1913) for coal exporting. Port Harcourt drew a cosmopolitan population including many freed slaves from Sierra Leone who settled there just as some returnees settled in Lagos. PH was for Igbos what Lagos was for Yorubas, and they invested heavily in it. During the war, the Biafran army refused to engage the enemy in urban warfare to avoid destroying the city they loved. But Igbos still lost everything due to the abandoned properties scam instigated by Ijaws (not Ikwerres). This is what wrecked the city, until its recent rebirth. It wasn't only Igbo properties that were seized, other West Africans especially the Sierra Leoneans also lost everything and left Nigeria as a result, many to Europe and North America. Between 1970-1994, the city fell into decay as all the green areas which made it a garden city were destroyed and converted into shanties. Since 1995, the city has undergone some rehabilitation under Odili, Amaechi, Wike and still ongoing under Fubara, but the original old township has been abandoned as the city expands towards Aba and Owerri. The eastern railway terminal and the once vibrant seaport have all been abandoned due to anti-Igbo polices of the Nigerian state. ----------------------------------------------------- *Postscript- Whereas coal alone, led to the founding of two great cities in the east, oil has yielded no benefits at all to the area. Whatever benefits of oil is felt in distant places like Abuja and Lagos.
