I lived in Japan 10 years ago and I took for granted how some of these spots stayed open while big arcades in the states were always closing or stayed diamonds in the rough-- just rare af. Something told me that whenever I decide to go back, maybe bringing friends and fam and what not -- all these arcades spots would still be there waiting for me. You and Jiyuna are really painting the picture that this might not be the case -- and its heart-breaking man. Thanks for documenting this and now I really want to catch at least a few of these places before they are gone for good. Any chance of traveling to Fukuoka at all -- documenting some of the southern Japan arcade scene? Thanks again for the hard work -- and hopefully some sort of positive resurgence comes down the line so younger generations can have a chance to feel how welcoming, epic and fun all this was...
4:05 man, I love seeing Puyo Puyo 2 and SF 2 together like this. When Puyo 2 came out it actually was the second most popular arcade game in Japan, the first being SF2 of course, so it's kinda like SF2's puzzler cousin lol
I watch Melty Blood on the a-cho channel all the time! It's kind of surreal seeing what the place actually looks like. I definitely plan on playing there if I'm ever in Japan!
hard to see that right now with covid so active, and even in the aftermath im not sure how many of these places will be left standing. I want to preserve some kind of memory of them

Even if my goto arcade when in Japan is Mikado due to the GG goodness there, I was really impressed when I went there for the pre-KVO Xrd tourney in 2018, I would say it's the best arcade I ever went to in Japan. For starters it's non-smoking outside of small dedicated areas, which solves the only thing I don't like about japanese arcades, the food stall is a nice addition and everything I got there was good. The best thing is how they keep results and vids from all the tourneys they ran on their website, with the archives going back to 2006. So it's really sad that like Obama said in the video, there's hardly any players there outside of tournaments. Last year I went there every evening for a whole week while in Kyoto, I didn't got to play anyone on Xrd :/
One of the best times I had at an arcade was the Pre-KSB Rev team tournament here in 2016. I stopped by when I was in Osaka in December 2019 and was really bummed that no one was there playing Guilty Gear ;-;
Went to an event there this past January, but it looks like they've wildly changed their layout again. I love this arcade though. Went here my first time in Japan in 2015 for a big BB event around the same time as KSB. They used to have 50 yen plays for BB back then. I think it was CP2.0 at the time?

This might be a stretch, but are there any famous arcades up in in the Aomori Prefecture? I know that that's very far up north of the Honshu region of Japan, but I'll be heading there soon (specifically the Morioka area) and would like to visit some famous arcades up there when I have the time. But thanks for the vid! I always LOVED watching a-cho tournament streams for Zero/Alpha 3 back in the day. Hopefully I can visit there as well some day.
oh wow what the heck, i've been there before. I wasn't that big on fighting games back when I went 2 years ago, so I thought the arcade kinda sucked cuz it had an older version of taiko (that's all i played back then). But now that ik it's a big fighting game landmark, I wanna go back and play
That's a damn shame. I hope the Club Sega in Tokyo persists because UNI2 is getting an arcade release and I hope that means the old arcade gods go back there so there can be near daily arcade footage again of high level gameplay.
a great look at such an arcade for the uninitiated like myself. has it always been kinda empty like this though?....or has Covid discouraged their regular customers from coming through? edit: nvm I see more people toward the end, but I guess they're all playing fighters
Covid has obviously had an effect, but if you listen to the video I say not a lot of people come through on a day to day basis and its mostly an event venue now. maybe a result of the shopping district having less traffic, but it is probably due to the changing landscape of gaming now too. mobile games etc... arcades dont have same appeal they used to in general
@@ANIMEILLUMINATI thanks for getting back to me on this Obama. that makes sense 100%...I had the impression JP fighting game fans usually come thru to arcades to practice/socialize and make things livelier, but I suppose that's still not a lot of people (+ Covid, ofc). with regards to everything else, it's sad -- so many games and attractions for a wide range of people from hardcore gamers to non-gamers, but not many people around to see it. hope a-cho can make it through Covid and see greater days after.

Is this a-cho the same as ua-cam.com/users/GAMEachofeatured? I followed the channel for Melty Blood content. I thought a-cho was an individual; cool to hear it's an arcade.
I use to go to Computer shops to watch Tournament footages from A-Cho on 3rd strike for hours long! Those were the good times! Man, these arcade cabs still looks new and well maintained even though games are decades old already! 👍👍
God bless a-cho for hosting and uploading tournaments to this day.
they still going strong but...corona...
What doesn't that arcade play
I swear they would have a freaking high-level mahjong 3D chess tournament featuring Daigo

I watch a lot of footage on their yt channel really cool to see the actual place. Def will check it out in the future when the world opens up again.
yeah! hopefully they stay open...
Great memories of watching hours of a-cho streams, particularly for HnK and Xrd earlier on. HnK especially was super hype.
That place is insane. Omg some of those cabs are over 30 years old and they look brand new. The care thats gone into that place is amazing.

Same thing for every other arcade with CVS2.
D Zero but no F-Zero. Sometimes I wonder how many functional cabs are left in the world.
