Edit:I don't think I did enough to explain the flashback mechanic - it allows you to hold a button and rewind time whenever you need it. Phew. I feel better now. Mark Hi guys - anyone else realising they played some of these ports before? I was a big TOCA fan myself but also had a lot of time for this one. It was a nice return to form. Have you been waiting for a racer on Switch? Will the lack of a physical at launch make you wait? Enjoy! Mark
It's definitely a good racer. I have it on my X1 thanks to backwards compatibility, but seeing as I don't have the DLC I may want to revisit on the Switch since it would be pretty awesome to play in portable mode in particular. I'm inclined to wait for a physical release though.
Tip: go into difficulty settings, go to custom, change handling mode to simulation pro, turn off traction and stability control, leave ABS on. Then, change controller preset to use the right analog stick as acceleration and braking and the triggers to change gears. You now have an incredible experience.
Right stick as gear up and gear down is my fav way to play racers on a pad. It infuriates me when it is not an option. Learned this from a guy online in rallisport challenge 2 who kept beating me by seconds on the same course using the same car, even though I raced really well. Finally asked how he was doing it and that was his secret. The gap closed dramatically when I made the switch.
Yeah I've been craving a Gran Turismo style racing game for switch for so long. Looks like this is it. Mario Kart 8 was disappointing to me because there's a lack of content, there's no big cool story mode or something like Mario Aces tennis has. So I've been looking for other racing games constantly. This is the first one I really like the look of. I liked that Horizon Turbo game or whatever its called, but that's obviously just an arcade style racer. I miss that really in depth sim racing style
Been waiting a long long long time for a legit racing sim on the Nintendo platform....finally! I will wait for the physical release tho. Waited this long I might as well wait a little longer lol

My favorite racer from last Gen. I will definitely be buying this, especially because of the effort they put in to the port and they didn't hit us with a high switch tax. Amazing review fellas like always, your presentation on these videos is superb, informative and a joy to watch. Best switch reviews by far on youtube.
This isn’t just the best racer on Switch but one of the best I’ve played in a while in general! So many options, races, cars, modes. Visuals are on point especially in handheld, and sound is well balanced with again many options! Thanks for the review... Oh, and a High Res Texture pack!!! What a killer release
I played this game a lot on PC. Thing is, I might not want to repeat what I did on my PC on here. Which means getting first on all events with Ravenwest. But still, Feral Interactive did a wonderful job porting this to the Switch!
It looks pretty good. It doesnt suffer the same problem with torchlught 2 with me where mods was needed to fix the game. GRID is perfect as is so its worth getting for the switch all over again. I do wish we had Dirt Rally 2
Who needs sleep when you have SwitchUp videos to watch? ;P Also, your ** reference and the censoring bit was a nice touch. I'm grateful that this isn't one of their games.
I've heard great things about this port, and would love to add a racing game to my brand new switch, especially for handheld play. The only thing I'm worried about are the shoulder buttons of the joycons, which obviously aren't the pressure-sensitive triggers I would typically use on other systems for finely inputting the throttle and brake. If I were playing docked, I would just use a GameCube controller. But I want to play primarily on the go, so the joycons will be necessary. I've read that some hardcore racing sim fans found success and comfortability after remapping the inputs, including acceleration/brake to the right analog stick. That would take getting used to, but could possibly work out well in the end.
If someone still buy this, the first thing you do is going to the options menu and change the graphics mode to performance. It’s baffling that freaking fidelity is the default option in a racing game. It’s also very sad that most racing games on Switch (even the ones with supbar mobile graphics like Gear Club and Asphalt 9) are locked to 30fps.
@@itza8334 No they are the same in terms of gaming power. I will only ever use the switch in the portable mode so for me the lite is the better purchase.

Mark, you need to work on your braking and throttle management into the corners. As far as music goes, it's only a distraction when racing. Realistic car and ambient noise is far more important (to me). But being I prefer racing a with a wheel, I doubt I'll pick this game up, but I am happy to see a game like this on the platform.

Nice to have a game for Switch owners that wants a great racing simulator. I tempted to add it to my collection if it ever does have a physical release.
Many many complain about the missing online component but to me, that's actually irrelevant, I'm not paying Nintendo for a half backed online system, all I want is a good racing game to pass the time while I'm on a waiting line or on my way home, on the plane, etc. If they add the online option later for free, good, more for the people but I doubt its a dealbreaker
The whole time i questioned if this is Switch footage until i bought the game and seen it myself. I don't know what tricks they pull, but car racing games always look like they are 2 graphics generations ahead. Also Codemasters have a long history with Nintendo - i remember playing Micro Machines like crazy with my dad on SNES ages ago.
I love this game on mobile and have been playing it for many years. Just such amazing graphics and great variety of racing styles. Love this, just wish they had a physical version.

I love this review. Been contemplating if I should buy this or not (after the horrible Xenon Racer port), but now that the smoke’s cleared, I’ll be surely picking this one up. Kinda disappointed for CTR and the whole MTX thing, so this is on my next to-buy list. :) Two things: 1.) There’s some bleeping sounds at 9:10-ish onwards (similar to the ones used when someone swears on TV). What’s up with that? xD 2.) I think value should score 17/20 (to bring that to 90%) because $34 is a totally reasonable price given that all DLCs are included and how the game is ported with much effort. With all the shenanigans in the gaming industry, if a developer/publisher does these kind of “goodwill” efforts, then we should support them. As always, looking forward to your next vids! Keep it coming. :D
Hi Mark. Top notch review. Was looking forward to this before your review, but now it is a must buy. Not having online at the moment is not a problem at all in my book (I am an exclusive single player kind of guy). But I missed some info from your review. How does this game play on handheld without analog triggers? I mainly play handheld mode and I am a bit worried that digital triggers might hinder the experience. And here's hoping (once again) it gets a physical release (soon or at all).
Fantastic video, had a lot of codemaster games down the years on c64 and speccy , and codemaster racing starting with micro machines on amiga and megadrive. I know you said no multiplayer atm ..but did you mention it had no leaderboards online too ? Thats a deal breaker if it is... i can just about handle no multiplier , but no leaderboards in a racer is basically racer game suicide.
I have to be honest: Judging from the footage it looks like the controls are closer to a 1/20 than a 20/20. Is the steering really sensitive? The reason I'm asking is that everyone I see playing this game are flicking the left stick like they are using the d-pad instead of using consistent inputs through the corners.
Can we all just take a min in 2021 to look and see how well the switch handles this beautiful game and compare it to other dumpster fires where the switch struggles

Is it playable without a gamecube controller/without analog triggers? I would love to play this on the bus, but if it's not playable, I'm going to have to wait for a deep sale.
@@SwitchUpYt It seems that every review on metacritic focuses on this issue. Takes me back to the days of Playstation 1 and Gran Turismo 1. Worked fine then too.
its not really that hard to be the best proper racer on switch seeing as this is the only REAL racing game on it and no im not counting gearclub 1 and 2 because they are just mobile ports this is a proper racing game and runs and looks good
Hi Switchup. I'm new to games consoles like the Switch and was wondering are there steering wheels that will work with such games as this and Need for Speed? I'm in my 50's and struggle with joystick/ button controllers for racing games. Thanks!
I think asphalt is free to download, there will be microtransaction i believe. This game definitely looks better if you have three money for it, go for it and I'll also suggest you buy a 400gb sd card, it's only $53 on Amazon now
The Big Question is will there be actualonline multiplayer like we had on the 360? That will decide whther I bother to buy or not. This isn't really made clear anywhere.
The OG destruction derby game and could maybe go as far as 2 say the OG battle royale game, Twisted Metal! Man I wish they would bring that game series back(And not fuck it up).
Grid autosport is the best racing game you can play for any handheld device, Switch, Android and IOS. it's $2 on play store and it's the best $2 game i bought
I refuse to believe controls are 20 with the only viable analog trigger options on the switch being a gamecube/third party contorller. That being said enjoyed the review!

Is it playable without a gamecube controller/without analog triggers? I would love to play this on the bus, but if it's not playable, I'm going to have to wait for a deep sale.
Yeah it's fine
@@SwitchUpYt It seems that every review on metacritic focuses on this issue. Takes me back to the days of Playstation 1 and Gran Turismo 1. Worked fine then too.
its not really that hard to be the best proper racer on switch seeing as this is the only REAL racing game on it and no im not counting gearclub 1 and 2 because they are just mobile ports this is a proper racing game and runs and looks good
excactly, The switch isnt known for their racing/car/vehicles games .. and with no analog triggers on the controller, racing games doesnt feel right
Hi Switchup. I'm new to games consoles like the Switch and was wondering are there steering wheels that will work with such games as this and Need for Speed? I'm in my 50's and struggle with joystick/ button controllers for racing games. Thanks!
Hi mate. I honestly don't know if there are any steering wheels that are compatible with the Switch. I don't recall seeing any.
Biggest problem for racers on switch is the lack of analog triggers. No way to gauge your acceleration when its an "on and off" trigger
Terence Caron There are ways around it here thankfully
Hi guys. Which is better? Grid autosports or need for speed hot pursuit remastered?
Probably Grid! Mark
Asphalt is also coming to switch. Should I buy this or waiting for asphalt? I can only install either, for saving memory space (and money).
I think asphalt is free to download, there will be microtransaction i believe. This game definitely looks better if you have three money for it, go for it and I'll also suggest you buy a 400gb sd card, it's only $53 on Amazon now
Ok. I must get this one. Thanks for the review, guys.
You talked me into and with 50% off sold. Lol. Thank you.
I was watching this with my daughter and she scores the graphics 20 out of 20. And she used her serious voice.
Hahaha she sounds awesome!
Will get this game eventually, but it would be a day one if it had a physical release.
I would like to have analog triggers for this game..
why did this not get a physical version?
Grid autosport is the best racing game you can play for any handheld device, Switch, Android and IOS. it's $2 on play store and it's the best $2 game i bought
Can you watch the Replay after the race?
Yes you can. Mark
I refuse to believe controls are 20 with the only viable analog trigger options on the switch being a gamecube/third party contorller. That being said enjoyed the review!
Donald Glover Cheers Donald! Couldn’t really fault them they implemented everything they possibly could. Mark
Go SpeedRacer/ I thought this was a family friendly channel what is w/ all the cussing Mark!? hahaha awesome job
Turn off and use wheel touch or tilt with adjusting detail control option, then you will fine the best experience in mobile
I'm using a backbone controller and it's way better than touch or tilt control.
How does this port compare to the free Grid demo on the PS4?
