I' am not a drummer and can only go by my ears, but he is a super smooth drummer that sounds good. I saw him back in the day with AWB in Cleveland, OH and with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at the Hollywood Bowl. He is a bad boy!

The most fundamental lesson from Steve Ferrone I received when studying on AWB songs about 12 years ago. It completely changed my drumming and understanding of the groove. I found the my way to feel Mr. Ferrone's "time." I needed to think about my left foot on a hi-hat like on offbeat, even if it does not play or plays on downbeat. Something like a guitar in raggie style.
