Don’t be so desperate to believe that everyone must love Quentins movies because that’s a big delusion there buddy.

I’ve wondered that too - my best guess would be “Cardiogram” directed by Darezhan Omirbayev - since that film is indeed Kazakh and was released in 1995 - and as mentioned in the beginning of this video - it was stated that Kiarostami and Tarantino were judges at the Taormina International Film Festival in 1995.

@lamentate07 I don't think his tastes have changed at all. He usually speaks of filmmakers within the context of whatever project he's promoting. So, for something like "Grindhouse," he talked a lot about B-cinema. But when he brings over a film from Asia (like "Hero") then he'll talk about Asian filmmakers like Wong Kar Wei. He doesn't really have "taste" per se. The dude likes everything. Absolutely everything.

Tarantino makes porno movies next to Kiarostami, but there is room for all types of directors in the vast world of cinema.
Like Kiarostami, i'm more interested in Tarantino the cinephile than Tarantino the director, but his choices of lately have been poor. I remember when Quentin used to get behind the great directors, like Kiarostami, Wong Kar Wai, Takeshi Kitano etc. HIs taste seems to have changed over the years, and that's unfortunate.

In fact, i've never heard him make one great insight about directors he supposedly loves, like Godard and Antonioni, for example, but he will prattle on forever about the greatest action scene with tits!!
He may watch everything, but what he understands and appreciates are two different things.

Cinema ain't just Bela Tarr, Tarkowsky and Rossellini and a strong division between "serious" movies and genre based movies is often a critic construction
