Also, and maybe even more importantly, clients may have very serious reasons for not allowing pictures. Professional models and actors can be under contract that they cannot model for anyone except their employer. Creative professions can involve copyright/trademark of someone's face or likeness. Victims of domestic violence may want to avoid their face going online in any way that could be tied to them geographically for fear of their abuser finding them. When these hair dressers cross these boundaries they can put themselves or others at risk of actual harm.

I booked a quick weave once and the stylist was rude to me because I came with pack hair she didn’t like. She was then getting smart with me asking why I didn’t follow directions on her website. I then reminded her that I CALLED her a week before my appointment telling her that that hair was out of stock and she told me to just get the next best thing. So I went to the beauty supply store that she recommended and they gave me a hair made by the same company (and was honestly likely the same hair just being sold in a different package). She didn’t talk to me the whole service and rushed me out after. I was so sad but I’m shy and I was literally getting my hair done for my birthday so I just dealt with her bully behavior and I never went back.

Back in my day it was mandatory that shampoo services were included to assure there are no parasites or germs that could potentially be harmful to the public. Also pictures were never taken unless consent was given by your client and some salons have waivers just for that reason. I don’t understand the lack luster customer service of these new stylists but then the client is required to pay a non refundable deposit for the bare minimum. I personally do not go to salons any longer for so many of these reasons. I would love to find a stylist that comes with a keen sense of professionalism and desire to keep their clients.

Some stylists are not professional at all. Whew. This video makes me want to rant now. Lol. It makes me mad when you get there on time but they are not there on time. I understand things happen and I can deal with certain circumstances. The problem begins when they come in and they start doing everything else but your hair. Calling people, eating food, "stepping out" for a few minutes. By the time they even get started on your hair, an hour has went by. Then they let everything in their personal life affect when they finish your hair. I had a hair braider tell me she was leaving to go pay bills and needed the money for my hair. Not even half of my head was done. I told her, "Umm, no. I am not paying you until you finish. I don't feel comfortable paying you when you are nowhere near done." Then matters get worse. She ran out of hair after I asked her if I needed more hair 2 days before I came to the appointment! She was like, "I can finish your hair tomorrow. I really need to be somewhere by 3." I told her, you are finishing my hair today. I am going to get the hair and when I come back you are finishing it." So unprofessional. She had me so angry. I was so embarrassed. The entire time, the workers in the salon were making fun of my hair. They compared my hair to the girls in magazines, telling me that i would have that if i just took better care of my hair. And then the girl doing my hair was just shaking her head at me as if i was just making her job even more of a burden for her.
I was 15 at the times so my insecurities were sky high. I already felt very negatively abt my hair, and nothing they were saying to me wasnt anything i wasnt telling myself. I get they were trying to "help" me but i will literally never forget that.
Having outsiders re-enforce so fiercly the negative feelings you already felt about yourself is honestly the worst. I felt so ugly, as soon as i got into the car with my dad i immediately started crying. Never went to a salon since.

If i can't figure out a style i ask a family member or close friend that i know can lay some hair and i always keep an old school stylist contact info in my phone I'm talking about the ones that's been doing hair for 20 plus years.

I got my hair done yesterday at a braiding salon. It took them one hour to start past my appointment time because the hair was not prepared and watched them coach other client's on how to play with their hair for videos and pictures.
I was in the chair for 8 hours even with 2 people on my head. It was ridiculous and after they wanted me to stand there and be a model. Absolutely not. I said no and they had an attitude but oh well.
    I don't think it is a right.

I try to make sure reviews and research is key cause I refuse to waist my money for unprofessional energy and trash service. It's not just hairstylist that take customers pictures without their consent, it's so many other unprofessional people out here doing that and I firmly believe it is b/c of this social media era. It's actually annoying. I had a personal trainer who took a video of me without my consent while I was working out smh I had to let her know don't ever do that again and you are suppose to ask your clients to video tape. It's about respecting the client... Social media has played a huge role on why certain "Professionals" do what they do and that is why they will always be a social media stylist and not a real professional. They Lack respect

This! They assume everyone posts pictures of themselves all over social media. I DO NOT! I do not like taking pictures (for personal reasons) and I do not like having my face and business all over the world wide web. It's just like when I see people on facetime out in public and i see myself in the facetime. I told my family I will allow them to take photos with me for memory keeping, but stressed I do not want it on the internet. A few hours after the event, I had been tagged on facebook in the photos. This was done by my own mom! I was livid. Many people may not understand why, but it feels very invasive and violating.

After getting my hair burnt off TWICE by white stylists who had no idea how to handle my “textured thick-THICK coarse hair” I stopped letting anyone touch my hair. My hairdresser tried to gaslight me that my hair wasn’t as dark as I saw it to be. I had to take place two pics side by side pictures to get her to admit that she accidentally made it darker and on top of that she didn’t even tell me that she burnt the bottom of my hair off from leaving the bleach by too long because she can’t handle the amount of hair that I have.
I was going to start looking into natural hairstylists but I realized it’s the same problem everywhere. Finding a professional hairstylist that can handle thick, coarse and curly hair is like finding a needle in the haystack. So I will continue to do my own hair until I can not 😇

I learned this from my mom years ago: If they are they own boss (ie don't work for a salon/pay booth rent) DO NOT TIP! Tips are for hourly/underpaid employees. They set their own prices, so if they want more they should charge more. Now, if they have a shampoo person or assistant, they can get a little tip.

I don't really wear hair like that anymore, but when I did, I learned from UA-cam and did it myself because I don't have time for attitudes, rules, and shit being overpriced. I agree about taking pictures. If you ask, then most likely I won't care, but don't dare do it w/o my permission. I think it's rude. I'm glad that my niece is a cosmetologist because if I do wanna pay someone to do my hair I can trust her otherwise I don't really like a whole bunch of people in my hair cause I don't know your energy like that. 💜

everytime i went to the hairsalon, almost all the hair stylist imidietly gaslight me so that i let them do what THEY want with my hair, its not even like a sugestion that what i want is damaging my hair or that it isnt healthy its just that they specificly doesnt like my choise in hairstyle and they think that the hairstyle that they want to do on me would look better. its been so heartbreaking paying for something that i didnt even want in the firstplace, and being silent about my experience sine i really dont want to make them mad.. ive been to multiple different salon both small and a fancy establishment all of them are always have this kind of attitude and i had enough a few monts ago.. i started to learn to do my own hair, its not perfect but im still learning and its a skill that im going to use for the rest of my life so its always worth the investment💓

People always say support black businesses but the reason I don’t allow what I spend be dictated on the fact that they are black because some lack professionalism and if you questions their product you are an enemy or hits no type of customer service . The same African braider braided my hair for YEARS. My hair is chin length but SUPER thick. Last couple of years she started to get lazy with braiding my hair. Because my hair is so thick and unruly she started saying I have "stubborn" hair. I would laugh it off because I struggle with my thick hair and I know it can be a hassle. Then she said if she had hair like mine she would go bald or keep it short.😮 I'm confused because she is African and she is complaining about my nappy thick hair. So I ask her don't people in Africa have hair like mines? 🤔 Her answer is no I must be mixed because my hair is too thick. She ghosted me after I tried to make an appointment for 4 conrows and she wanted to charge $120 and I said that was too much. Yes my feelings are hurt😢 but if someone does not want to do my hair I should not force them.

This is why I stick to ONE stylist. I don't go for the most popular, celebrity stylist, idc if she's in a professional shop, none of that. I go for the stylist who respects my business & money and is humble but still knows how to SLAY. When some folks get too popular, it goes to their heads forgetting you NEED customers to keep your business afloat. Stop bringing them ya'll money and watch how the attitude adjustments come into play shortly after. I lucked up with my stylist, 0 drama 0 cancellations 0 attitudes and it's been over 4 years.

I’m also a big stickler for timeliness. I’m not a hairstylist, but I also work in the service industry and had a disagreement with one of my co-workers over a similar issue. He said if someone shows up late, they should still get the full time they paid for, even if that pushes back the rest of the appointments, and if the people after them don't want to wait, they can book with someone else. I disagree. If I am fully booked that day and you show up late, I have to cut your services short or cancel your appointment because that's not fair to everyone else with an appointment after you who will show up on time.
