  • Five Fingers of Death aka King Boxer is one of the most renowned Shaw Brothers martial arts films. Directed by South Korean Jeong Chang-Hwa and starring famed Lo Lieh, the film was one of the most successful of its kind in the West; coming out before Enter the Dragon, it helped pave the way for the HK martial arts genre to go international.
Five Fingers of Death, like so many kung fu films, has a large cast of characters and many subplots, however ultimately it is a traditional story about a man who joins a martial arts school in order to take part in a competition against an opposing and ruthless school. After Lo Lieh's character has proved his worth, he is taught the iron palm technique and uses it against the many thugs that attempt to kill him to prevent him from competing.
It is a rather epic martial tale, combining themes of honour, resilience and love. It was one of, if not the first Shaw Brothers film I saw and it will always remain one of my favourites. Given its status as one of the very first international martial arts movie sensations, as well as the fact that it holds up so well, it makes it a good starting point for those looking to jump into HK martial arts cinema.
I hope you enjoy my edit of it! Any constructive criticism is very much appreciated as it helps me improve my editing :)
