I am a woman doctor who has cared for victims, families and even predators. The problem happens in Protestant churches and cults too. These speakers present very real insights and I thank them for it. The attack on the victim is not just physical, it is combined with ongoing psychological abuse of the victim and often their families too, and in this case of seminarians and priests, all of whom are recruited or cajoled into silencing the victim. This exercise of power is part of the excitement for the predator. Predators cooperate with others to find their victims, sometimes they get someone to act as procurer, lookout, and someone to lie and cover up for them. Churches and religious orders have international paedophile rings operating within them. None of this is being addressed.

I am a former Catholic Priest. I remember in my first assignment, I was on fire. The fact that many of the people were from Ascoli Piceno in the Marche region of Italy, fired me up even more. In the rectory, there lived a priest who just lived there. When I inquired about this I was told not to worry about it. I soon learned that this guy was stationed at a neighboring parish, at that parish apparently, he was moved quickly. Nothing was said regarding that sudden move, eventually I learned that the move was perpetuated because he sexually abused a boy. My pastor told me not to worry about this, but it affected me adversely where I couldn't even sit at the table and eat with him.

Did you ever think to call the police? Catholics (and I am one) seem to have a problem with reporting abuse to the police when they have reasonable suspicions, There is no excuse for this neglect Claiming that you don't have proof is dishonest. It's not your job or place to gather proof. That is the function of the police and Child Protection workers and not the laity or the bishops or the pope. Many Catholics are guilty of this abuse because they did nothing about it when it was just that simple. The Catholic Church has no business investigating allegations or being the go between for parishioners and the police. The Church needs to butt out and only intervene when ordered to do so.

I highly recommend a book "Near to God Far from Rome" by Richard Bennett. It's a testimony of 50 ex-Catholic priests. Namely, how they came to trusting the true gospel after the Lord got a hold of them through His word. These testimonies span a number of decades and it's so encouraging. I wept through many of the stories. I am an ex-Catholic who turned to New Age for 20 years. Then, after a friend put a King James Bible in front of me, I was immediately convicted (and angry!) After months of wrestling with God and the scriptures, I surrendered, repented, and believed on the gospel that saves (1 Cor 15:1-4.) God gave me a new heart instantly and I know that I will forever be His. This happened 9 years ago and I'm still wanting to share this with anyone who will listen. I pray you are seeking God in prayer, surrender, and by His word.

Believe it or not, he was merely the symptom. The problem was bigger than him. The problem was and remains The Roman Catholic Church. It has not changed. It 'remains the same. The Church merely masks the symptom. It's not sorry for its sin. It's sorry it got caught and teaches its laity to deflect guilt and shame by pointing to other religions and institutions "Oh, they all do it" is their defense. Your revulsion at the dinner table was not caused by him as much as by the organization protecting him from his consequences and accountable for enabling his bad behavior. The Catholic Church may as well beatify him on his way to sainthood. They don't care. They see the Church as his victim and not the children he and they hurt.

The Catholic Church is pretty creepy by promoting the Heliocentric model. Why would they promote something that tricks people into believing they are a speck of dust on a spinning water ball in the black void of outer space? It's a huge problem. They are promoting a false cosmology which leads to solipsistic behavior like we see in this video.

This is a very powerful and beautiful documentary, though it's very hard to listen to sometimes. And I think it's 100% correct in its analysis: Nothing is going to change as long as the church is an autocracy controlled by male bachelors. And since I don't think the Magisterium is ever going to give up even an iota of their current power and privilege, I think the institutional church is going to die. If Catholicism survives, it's going to survive as independent laity-controlled congregations in which women share power equally with men and any instances of sexual abuse are immediately reported to the police.

The condemnation was placed exactly where it needs to be - on the heads of those that perpetrated these crimes and those that protect them. I am a practicing Catholic who loves Christ and His Church, but I do not want to turn a blind eye to evil within our own institution because of the fear of how this may be perceived. I lived In London next to the most important abbey in London Ealing abbey. The past Abbott has recently been sent to prison for 17 years he jumped bail and was on the run for years he was helped on the run by Rome and was tracked down to Albania and had to be extradited back to the UK. A whole succession of priests from the abbey have been sent to prison. This stuff is still going on. I was raped by a teacher repeatedly as a boy . My life fell apart . I had him arrested 40 years later he had just retired as the headmaster of a Roman Catholic primary school and was just about to become a deacon of his local church. The police did not prosecute him

@@ricdavid7476 hey there, Ric… so I just want to know this very amazing thing. If you truly as you say, were a Christian born again, the Father will never let you out of his hands. You can choose to turn away, reject and leave, but the father will never leave you, nor forsake you. Because this is a work of God that sustains us-not of ourselves. So now, just like the prodigal son you may be far away from him but he has never left you.
This is so mind blowing. I thought about That this morning as I was waking up. The prodigal son.
He loves his children that much.
It’s amazing how the Bible always shows us that it’s always about him being faithful when we’re not faithful.
So yes, you may have left Christianity, but if you are born again of the spirit, He will never leave you. You are now a son and an heir no matter what you do in this lifetime.
Truly, showing that God, when we make a confession about who he is, we are sealed with the holy spirit of promise until the day of redemption. Again, mind blowing. No other religion in the world will ever bring man to this knowledge because this is not the knowledge of man, but of God.
I share this because I truly feel a supernatural peace, even when The world around us is falling apart. This is how I know the one true God, because of the peace that I feel that surpasses my own human understanding. I want everybody to understand this truth, and understand they can have the same because or that I am faithful, but because he is faithful.
      God Bless!

Celibacy is a sacrifice made by a man or woman that is called to religious life, the person gives up the opportunity of having a family for God. A homosexual makes no such sacrifice. Perhaps it's a way for the Catholic family homosexual to save face and say he has a calling to the priesthood which is wrong. Now it is as if you must be a homosexual to become a priest.

You have this right. These monsters were not “manufactured” in the Church, they were deviants before they entered the seminary and they never planned on living out a virtuous life of chastity. They didn’t enter seminary because they loved Christ and His Church above all and wanted to offer their lives in service to it. Far from it. I have been told this by priests who saw men in seminary who never should have been there.
There is much blame that can be directed to how the church handled cases of abuse and failed to protect the innocent. Protecting the innocent from evil and bringing healing to the wounded is at the heart of the Church’s mission. To fail to identify the cancer within and to cut it out - is a colossal failure and human tragedy. My heart grieves for these innocent victims.
But to fix issues, the issues have to be properly understood. And understanding who these monsters are is critical - so we can prevent more like them from ever entering seminaries in the first place. I believe the Church does better now at psychological screening, but like with any human institution, it will not always succeed. And where deviants are themselves in positions of power within the Church? - God help us. We need brave and holy Church leaders who demand we have a HOLY priesthood that is sworn to uphold and live out ALL the teachings of the Catholic Church. And when abuse is discovered, there needs to be justice… so healing can begin.

And isn't a requirement in some christian denominations. The real reason it became policy was to protect the church property. Since the local clerics would receive and manage materials and lands of the church which could them be inherited or give to their sons, thus dilapidating the church. It's all about money.

People really need to understand that there never was an actual separation between church and state. All intertwined. I wish that governmental agencies would get the same amount of scrutiny the Catholic church gets. It is NOT just the Catholic church, it is in EVERY sect of religion.
I dont hate the church, I WANT to serve God. I love Jesus. I need my light back but I've been fucked with my entire life and I'm scared to trust anyone. I'm actually convinced that I've been cursed since literal birth.
My mother told me she was told to never return to the Catholic church because she was 16 and unwed and pregnant. I'm convinced we were put on some sort of list....
I know it sounds crazy, it FEELS crazy!
I just dont see how this many bad things can happen to one person.
It literally feels like there is this push to get me to k*ll myself. 😢
I've even had people with credentials tell me that im NOT crazy that what I'm saying actually does happen and it really isn't that far fetched. I try to find peace in that.
God is the only reason I'm alive, I truly believe that! I should be dead, several times over. I have a life story, most probably wouldn't believe. 😢 God has to be THE only explanation of me being alive.

20:04 I used to be one of those devout Catholics until a few years ago and although I knew of the abuses I rationalized or downplayed them away during those years as I really believed the apologetics on this one, I was raised by parents who also really liked JPII growing up but I became a Traditionalist type of Catholic during high school and college (as the Latin Mass seemed to be making a come back in many dioceses until the pope put a stop to it nearly two years ago) and my fellow Trad friends usually either blamed Vatican II itself or the chaos that came after it for the abuses when they weren't blaming the LGBT+ community instead (mainly the gay priests) so I guess that's the way I dealt with the situation until the very last day I called myself a Catholic.
Because of that the crisis pretty much played no role in my deconversion and it's been several years now since I left the but now I'm starting to see I may have been lied to in more ways than I thought and for a good chunk of my life I thought God wanted me to be a priest (and I idealized the priesthood as a result), however I never made it to seminary and I'm grateful for that.
Still trying to recover from the +10 years of repression and guilt I got as a hormonal teenager through Purity Culture/Theology of the Body type of theology I got but I was told the moment I looked at a woman a certain way and gave in to "impure thoughts" that would be a mortal sin and would go to hell unless I went to confessional (and confess I did very often, like every two weeks at one point), now I see why so many have left over the scandal and it's mostly because of the hypocrisy and the audacity of these priests and bishops to dictate what our sex lives should be like while all of this was going on.
Yet another reason why at this point I want nothing to do with the institution I used to be so loyal to and made the center of my life for too long, I'm not exactly optimistic that true reform will come anytime soon and this will keep happening.

You may want to consider that it was through the help of Vatican II, this internal problem was dragged into the light. The misguided orthodoxy plaguing the Catholic Church prior to Vatican II was a contributing factor in blinding Catholics and non-Catholics to this unfortunate reality. Back in those days, people tended to deify clergy and other clerics in the Church. In a sense, they could do no wrong. The Church's demonizing of human sexuality added fuel to the fire. These excessive practices may have served as shields and food attracting power hungry and control seeking people. In a sense, Vatican II forced the Catholic Church out of its closet and thereby exposing its ugly "secrets" for all to see. When a dysfunctional body is exposed for its corruption, the view is not pretty. That, I believe is where the Church now stands. People, especially some Catholics, view that exposure as "attacking the faith" . So they fight back by blaming the pope, attacking Church reform, and rejecting more meaningful liturgy as causing the Church harm. Consequently, they see the solutions as turning the clock back to the days of Latin Masses, ovelrritualization and supernatural beliefs such as apparations of the saints, the Shroud of Turin, and the blood of Christ flowing from a communion wafer. Some see all of this as a sign of hopelessness for theChurch, but it may be an indicator of the need for continued reform and not regression. Don't jump off the ship just yet.

I also was a Catholic and left the church. It would seem that the only cure for this child rapist problem among the priest is to completely shut down the church so these predators would no longer have easy access to the children. And the only way this organization of crime will be shut down is if every Catholic walks away and stops supporting it on every level. What is the right thing to do? Support a criminal entity or protect the children? It's obvious that the Vatican will never serve any kind of justice and will continue to promote child rapists by continuing to hide them and/or move them from place to place. Their deceptive protocol plan has been reveal even within their own records which have been subpoenaed for court. The Catholic Church has too much power around the globe thanks to their Jesuits who invade countries through government. The Catholic Church is nothing short of organized crime on many levels. It's too bad that most Catholics cannot bring themselves to read and research the true history of the church. The Catholic Church is nothing more than Lucifer's church.

Pope Francis said, “Clericalism is when the priests and other clergy in the church start to think they are more important and powerful than everyone else. Displeased, he said it was like a disease, like a leprosy that is really hurting the church. He told church leaders, especially those working in the Vatican to get rid of the bad habits and temptations like feeling indispensable, wanting to be rich, living a double life, and even forgetting about God.”
The pyramid of hierarchical authority, and the ordination of gay men is but the mighty beast of power that has taken over in the church that Jesus Christ established. God will cleanse His temple as He did when He went up to Jerusalem and told them to stop abusing and misusing ”My Father’s house.”
There are so many non free thinking clericalised lay people in the catholic church now, that it has become harder to demand changes to bring back e.g. the altar rails that were ripped out of our churches removing this reverence and more efficient way of receiving God on our tongues, and to put Christ back where He belongs in our churches so that we may once again have access to visit Him in unlocked churches. Yes for sure the priests who abuse are responsible for the harm. But the hierarchy of the church (bishops for example) allowed it to happen. They covered it up. So did every level of authority all the way up to the Pope. In terms coined by psychologist Phil Zimbardo - bad apples, bad barrel, bad barrel maker.

Hope for more brave, humble and truthful documentary like this. That shows that even priests need regeneration by the Holy Spirit. And turn into a real ontological change through faith in Christ alone. Religious discipline is not enough Philippians 2:13
for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. May everyone in RC turn to Jesus Christ for 2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
I look at these verses as it is. I may seem superstitious on this but I believe on God who creates something out of nothing with God all things are possible. Amen

Creating a religious system within which clergy aren't allowed to marry, creates an unnatural environment. The "sacred feminine" /holy grail of manhood regards orgasm as the ultimate physical experience. That constitutes "god" for many through the ages. If you find yourself in a religious system in which you gain knowledge of deity, it remains soul-dimension-bound. Until you meet the Creator of the universe in person, you just remain religious- gaining knowledge, emotional experiences- in your own unique manner as a person:that constitutes your soul. Only the bride of Christ has a spirit dimension which has truly come alive. Only they can hear God's voice and see Him manifest to them in many ways. That is the ultimate human "experience". Knowledge of the bible, doing good deeds an trying to be a good person doesn't make you part of the bride. Untill then, you'll be mislead by the religious spirit-which is a demonic entity.

JohnPaul II is being misrepresented concerning his teaching on sexuality and clerical celibacy. Nowhere does he suggest that clerical celibacy leads to a higher form of sexual satisfaction. Chastity is a sublimation of sexuality for a greater good and it is required of everyone not just priests. It is the only healthy and normal use of human sexuality diametrically opposed to selfish use of our sexuality. Married couples understand this too because chastity is also part of married life where sex is sublimated for raising a family. Chastity is the only form of sexuality that is worthy of human dignity. Any other use of sexuality leads to abuse and degradation of human beings including rape and abortions.

Yesterday the pope was accused on Twitter by Vigano that he "used to operate like McCarrick" used to with seminarians. This is supposed to have been told to Vigano by a former seminarian about what pope francis was like when the seminarian was a novice. No other details were mentioned.
It sounds like it would have had to have been at a Jesuit Seminary. I'm just guessing.

I was not sexually abused. I was a Catholic orphan STOLEN from my mother by John Cardinal O'Connor who was paid by my father and then she was put through "electro shock treatments, three times, for the sole purpose of surrender". God does not 'let this happen'. People have free will. My life was a living HELL. However, I had a deep and very mystical relationship with St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and there were excellent priests, bishops and nuns who did help ME get through and endure the suffering AND support and guide me in fighting the demons in the Church. And, at the end of the day, IF you are Catholic .... you know there's a heaven and a hell.

Idiots will say freewill... freewill from the abuser obviously..
Which means they are of the position that god is unwilling to stop the abuser making him an evil god, or probably unable to which makes it not much of a god.
Basically an non intervening god isn't much of a god at all. 😑
If they were good christians they could offer themselves as sacrificial lambs to the abusers in the hope of saving unwilling victims.. Or simply demand of the church they stop the abusers, instead of ignoring or defending the organization.

Not surprising to hear of the “wicked to the core” status of the RCC. As the Lord Jesus had said when he walked this earth “you (referring to the hypocritical religious power at the time) travel over land and sea to make a single convert, and when you do, you make him twice a son of hell as you are.”
The good news, however, is that victims can find true deliverance and healing through faith and repentance. Come to me, you who are heavy laden, take my yoke on you and learn from me. For my yoke is easy and my burden, light-the words of our ONE and ONLY mediator-Jesus the Christ.

Any group, especially a corporate one, will leverage its power to protect itself, manufacturing an ideology to support its ideas and actions. Call it social pathology or original sin. Perhaps if we were willing to recognize this reality, we could waylay some of the damage. Wouldn't that be better than living within an orbit of opposition, in constant rotation around people from whom we have pledged to escape?

sadly they are very negative about the church, I was sexually assaulted as a religious shortly after my first profession. I survived and left after six years solely because of a lack of community prayer. I have been ordained as an Old Roman Catholic priest and I believe the church is still holy and sinful. In my M. Div. I did a paper in Ecclesiology on the question of how the church is both holy and sinful and received a B+. The Church has sinful people both clergy and lay. Yet in society, it's the same they individuals especially James Egan I feel sorry for. Possibly they have lost their faith. I survived my assault and live in faith.

The "victims" in this video, though they may have claims of being steeped in the Catholic culture. All display a fundamental misunderstanding of Church doctrine. In that the Church is not a building or institution, but a body of people. To continue to use the language of the entire Church being complicit in child abuse, would imply that the victims themselves and their own families contributed to these abuses.
Rather, it is more logical to segregate the abusers in these instances as not part of the Church, but infiltrator's of the Church.
This would also point out, that no institution is free of the worst .1% of the population. And if you have a legitimate gripe with child abuse, your efforts would be better spent fighting at your local public schools as the rates of abuse in government institutions is 3x higher then the Church.

I'm deeply saddened by what has happened in the Church Christ established. On a cynical level, I must wonder though if this video dropped as we are preparing for the Synod of Bishops as a way to pressure Pope Francis into dropping the celibacy requirement. Painful as these experiences are, this video fails to provide the concrete steps that the Pope should take. This very week the Pope made "Vos Estis" definitive which holds bishops and religious superiors accountable for the abuse that they commit or cover up and extended the law to now include lay leaders who head international associations recognized by the Vatican. Let's talk about what more needs to be done. That's where the discussion must be now.

This is the first I’ve heard of this decision by Pope Francis, “Vos Estis.” I’ll look into it. 👍 About 8-9 years ago my pastor asked me to take part in an Archdiocese-wide meeting/conference of laypeople to make suggestions to our archbishop for dealing with the sex scandals that had surfaced recently. I made the suggestion that there be a group of laypeople outside of bishops’ control, that the bishops are accountable to about dealing with sexual abuses in the church. My Archdiocese had sexual predators in it too. 😢 My suggestion didn’t go very far, and as far as I could tell, fell on deaf ears. Of course our Archbishop wouldn’t want to be accountable to a bunch of people he couldn’t control.
