Thank you for the video and information. Or as you again touched on, some of those minor or even major lincoln dd's and others but with the addition of die wear, circulation and plating issues. Daniel, I have a 1969 "S" Mint Mark Penny; It looks like a Doubled Die on the Obverse. I'm trying to decide whether to send it off for grading or not; If you had one, and you thought it was a Doubled Die, which Grading Company would you send it to? Any information from you would be very helpful. Thank You.
Always wondered about that, now I know. Thanks Daniel!!!! Oh and that 55 DD you showed I had as a kid, put it in a gumball machine. Man that was an expensive gumball. Wish I had that one back.
You probably had the well known machine doubled die 1955. It’s commonly known as the “poor man’s 1955 doubled die”. The crazy expensive ones were given out as change in cigarette vending machines. A pack of cigs cost $0.23 in 1955. People put in a $0.25 coin and a pack of cigarettes came out with 2 pennys taped to it as change. The famous 1955 Doubled Die Lincoln Cent was distributed that way.
Finding that after watching enough of your videos I’m doing a lot more self correcting. The learning and finding what I think I have to what I actually have is what makes this so much fun even if my results aren’t what I hope they are. Still finding neat coins
Thanks Daniel for the Video. When it comes to older Lincoln Cents, if the penny is warn down is there still doubling observed or are they not easily identified due to the condition?
@@CoinHELPu That's what I thought. As the date or OBV is warn down, even though it's cool to find a 1910-1920's pennies, many are very well circulated so it is difficult to know if one was doubled or not. Cool finds none the less and it keeps me going in the hobby. Thanks Again!!!!!
Ah I see. Thank you for helping everyone out with this video. Now I definitely have to re re re re recheck my coins. Now I know and understand what I'm looking for and at.
No such think as a china strike error and I can't tell you a value when I don't know the date, mint, denomination or grade. I recommend looking it up at ebay sold auctions.
Daniel, I feel like Helen Keller! I think I've got it now! You've spelled it out for me. Thank you so much. I was super confused before but thank you for illustrating how a doubled die happens! ☺️
Iv been trying to learn to identify these for a couple weeks and this video has provided the best progress in that effort so far. You got me subscribed. Let me see what else you have posted before I'm start harassing you with questions lol.
Still trying to figure out on that 1955 Lincoln cent how the doubling happens on the date and Liberty but not the face or torso! Great explaining on the dies thought!
Thank you for a detailed explanation. Can you make a video explaining the mint process. We can better understand what errors are created at the mint and post.
Hey Daniel, 1st I have to say I absolutely love ur videos. Ur so informative. I do not listen or watch anyone but u when it comes to coins. I watched ur videos on cleaning coins and I still did not understand everything u were saying. Question I wanted to ask u was can I soak my coins in vinegar to clean them or in water and soap? I look for error coins and sometimes it’s hard to see
Daniel, The first time we talked, I didn't like you very much. You took the wind right out of my sails ... but at the time you were talking to a dumbass 🤣... I was all set to auction my Pirate booty and retire. It's a good thing you took the wind away, before I sailed into bankruptcy having junk graded ... Thanks for the honesty, and tolerating my ignorance with grace. You have the best channel for coins, hands down. Thanks for sharing
Sure but I haven't found any other quarters with major strike doubling but i have found about eight 1994P's It's not normal and 1994 is certainly a lot more common@@CoinHELPu
Great video - very informative! Great find on that Buffalo! I will be at FUN so I'll have to watch for it! Just a thought but my main issue is trying to decide if a DD is evident on older more worn coins. Devices can spread with wear over time and it makes it much more difficult to decide on. A video on that would be AWESOME!
It's not a secret but a fact actually. If you check sold auction coins in a PCGS or NGC holder they sell for more. Look up CAC, if they have that they're also worth more.
Is it possible to pay dealers to send off CAC submissions on a customers behalf? I’ve wanted to send in some coins for CAC consideration and would pay a dealer a significant fee to do so for me. I have tried to do it myself but they won’t let me join. Apparently they aren’t accepting new members. 😔
U r legit the best. One bit of help that i may add if u would like to use it is. When you show mechanical doubling draw it the size of the original letter that way they can know its not as big as your drawing it
If anyone actually thinks a coin is as big as my drawing then there's no help for them and I give up. lol. This video has been up for years and you're the first to say such a thing and there's thousands of views.
One thing thats discouraging for us newbies is when a coin dealer gives you wrong info. And its not that they are dumb its that they legit didn't know about a certain variety.
I learned so much from this video. Thanks a million. My one question is that I see simple machine doubling coins sometimes selling at hefty prices. I this only wishful thinking on the seller ? Some of these coins command a premium. Thanks.
I have many coins with double on them, but I think they are machine double, are they worth anything in monetary value, also have many coins with diebrake s there any value on them, and how much.
@@josephlindquist2890 Just wanted to make sure you wasn't confusing the two together. Some people think doubled die is doubled dye and has to do with the color of the coin.
@@CoinHELPu to be honest there is only a few on this subject or coins period I feel I can get an educated answer. So from time to time I may just come at you with a question lol. I've weighed it I will again but it's the only coin I've come across in my life that does not have a copper color band. Obviously nickels don't 5.6 Louisiana 2002.... initially I was interested in the process and why all the dimes and quarters have the edge they have and what could cause it not to have that edge.
Is there a such thing as a triple die or quadruple die Lincoln cent, I found a 1978D AND it's triple and someplaces are quadruple died, all the letters and numbers are, what do you think.
Good morning. I am so new to this but I found a 1958 no mint Lincoln (looks to me, in very good condition). Do you know where I could go to ask about double die, etc.?
I need more info. This was a good video but I think I get it. Thickness is one example. Drawings don't help me much. Still a great video to not end here. Thanks for your expertise, Daniel. It's just me because I'm just getting into errors after collecting for years. Have a great weekend holiday. I do hope you take some time off to enjoy this holiday for our veterans. American Woodland Relics has an awesome video up and we should all watch it. It doesn't take very long.
Thank you so much for this video explaining the difference between doubling and machined doubling. New to the hobby and that was a big question I had. Maybe you could just show pics of the different types on coins instead of the artistic rendering? Thanks again for the info

Love your channel. Best by far, honestly. Thank you for letting us all in on the knowledge you’ve accumulated over the years. I have many ‘67,’68 P half dollars with major machine doubling. Does it add any value? Does it reduce value? Typically….. thanks again.
One thing I've learned is that there's often notching you won't see in Mechanical doubling. When I first started collecting I confused the 2....and learned quickly how rare alot of these DDs are.
Thank you Daniel for your teachings and helping those in need of. I've been watching your videos for awhile now but just recently joined. I have a few coins that I could use some help on what do you think of this.
This video was very helpful, I have a penny that was struck twice and some Bou nickels that have those lines on the side all the way around it I found three of them, the rest didn't have it, does anyone know where I could get these coins appraised.. it sucks because I talk to One coin person show them the pictures and he says no it's really nothing you don't got, everyone else says that I got something
Unless the person is an expert then you can't believe when they tell you that you have something. You can post your images here coinauctionshelp.com/forum/index.php

It only sinks in if one takes the time to "Really" understand whats happening and read Mega, Strike it Rich 2025 Redbook, and don't give up. Believe me, at one time I was ready to give it up. It will sink in. Just be patient and read about the minting process. I had one heck of a time putting together the 1982-PD set, all 7 pieces CuZi and ZiCu minus the elusive 8th issue, a 1982 small date copper Lincoln cent.
Hey there. So, I'm fairly new to this and I'm finding it's fun, exciting and a bit challenging. I'm learning a lot from you and your channel. You're a great teacher ... Thank you 😊
Yes Daniel does explain things in a clear, descriptive way so even those (like myself) who have to watch over and over to get it. This patient easy manner detailed, methodical and thorough way of teaching shows his passion for coins whether collecting or searching or for some marketing their finds to make his presentations the best on you tube in my opinion. I would be remiss not to declare my appreciation for his time and effort to help us learn by giving us these videos.
Thanks Dan I was confused especially with these newer coins they're so shiny that I was taking the the glare that they put around the coin as doubling I'm like everyone's double you did awesome you explain what I'm looking for now I always thought they made the numbers in the letters like you would make it a 3D look on the letters and numbers that's where I was getting confused thanks a lot again Dan I like to hear from you👍
@@CoinHELPu Thank you, sir! After watching your videos on double die vs machine doubling, I think mine is a machine double --- with one very strange twist that I cannot explain. Rather than to bore you with it, I'm going to send it to PCGS for grading. Now, if it is a very rare coin with machine doubling, what certifications should I seek to get the most out of an auction????? I will now shut up and await your answer!
@@CoinHELPu May I message you privately? I can send you images of my coin, if you would like.
OK I have one cent wheat D coin 1958
Thanks Daniel for the Video. When it comes to older Lincoln Cents, if the penny is warn down is there still doubling observed or are they not easily identified due to the condition?
It depends on which doubled die and most low grade coins are not worth anything with doubled die. Just depends on date and mint.
Thank you for the information, the wife and I have just started getting into coin collecting so this description was extremely helpful.
Please read my comments you could wind up losing money on that.
Hi,Daniel I want to know what is V.D.B stand for underneath below the arm of Abraham Lincoln penny?
Victor David Brenner the designer initials.
Ah I see. Thank you for helping everyone out with this video. Now I definitely have to re re re re recheck my coins. Now I know and understand what I'm looking for and at.
Glad to help
Thank you for the ℹ️ on double die coin.I have question for you what’s a 50%off center with chain strike edge mint error.......help me please
Wexlers doubledie.com tells you all that if you go there and read his guides.
Thank you for a detailed explanation. Can you make a video explaining the mint process. We can better understand what errors are created at the mint and post.
You're welcome
Hey Daniel, 1st I have to say I absolutely love ur videos. Ur so informative. I do not listen or watch anyone but u when it comes to coins. I watched ur videos on cleaning coins and I still did not understand everything u were saying. Question I wanted to ask u was can I soak my coins in vinegar to clean them or in water and soap? I look for error coins and sometimes it’s hard to see
Thanks but I don't recommend cleaning your coins any other way then in my video.
Congrats on that double die buffalo nickel Daniel!! Thanks for sharing more information on identifying double dies!!
Thanks a million Daniel. Very informative to say the very least. Now I have a clue as to what to look for. All the best.
Daniel,
The first time we talked, I didn't like you very much.
Great explanation, it truly does help understand the differences between the 2. Having the visual with the dies was very helpfull.
I've noticed that some 1994P quarters have reverse strike doubling but I haven't found much information about why that's the case
Every denomination, date and mint have examples of strike doubling, it's very common. It's not special or exclusive for a 1994 P quarter.
Worn doubled dies can be a bit tricky but not the more obvious doubled dies.
You mention putting it in a PCGS holder ...it would bring more money? Is this a trade secret or just an opinion. Thank you
It's not a secret but a fact actually.
This is helpful and I'm looking forward to the next video on the different types of doubled dies.
Thank you Daniel.
Thank You, I have struggled in understanding as to me its confusing. Your explanation is wonderful.
Basically the way i learned is. If you have to ask if its doubled it most likely is not lol
But you are definitely awesome. Appreciate you and your brutal honesty.
One thing thats discouraging for us newbies is when a coin dealer gives you wrong info. And its not that they are dumb its that they legit didn't know about a certain variety.
Just have to know that most dealers don't specialize in this stuff, they're general practitioners.
THANK YOU.., you are soo patient with us
Newbies🙃😊🙏
Thank you. Where did you go to find the buffalo? was it a coin dealer?
What did your buffalo go for at the FUN show? Beautiful coin. You should be proud.
$4,200 Thanks
The best info on double dies I have ever seen thanks
Thank you
I learned so much from this video. Thanks a million. My one question is that I see simple machine doubling coins sometimes selling at hefty prices. I this only wishful thinking on the seller ? Some of these coins command a premium. Thanks.
It's buying out of ignorance and people shill bidding their own coins with their other accounts.
That answers my question. Thanks!@@CoinHELPu
I have many coins with double on them, but I think they are machine double, are they worth anything in monetary value, also have many coins with diebrake s there any value on them, and how much.
How much can you tell ua about how the edge of coins by get no that half copper half "silver" look and
What if it is only silver colored
Weigh it.
Has nothing to do with a doubled die
LMAO....I know I was just asking. Sorry I wasn't keeping with the topic. Won't let it happen again😃
Obviously nickels don't
5.6 Louisiana 2002.... initially I was interested in the process and why all the dimes and quarters have the edge they have and what could cause it not to have that edge.
Is there a such thing as a triple die or quadruple die Lincoln cent, I found a 1978D AND it's triple and someplaces are quadruple died, all the letters and numbers are, what do you think.
Nope
Good morning. I am so new to this but I found a 1958 no mint Lincoln (looks to me, in very good condition). Do you know where I could go to ask about double die, etc.?
Thanks for another good explanation on double die.It really makes a difference in how u look at it.
Thank you so much for drawing! Everyone should watch this! Great information 👍 So many can't tell the difference, this will help so many 🌟
You are the best at explaining. But coins are complicated
I have a double strike penny I would like your thoughts on please let me know how to get u pics of the penny
Blessing ON YOU Dan, thanks for the teaching, now I know what to look for, that great ,keep up good work,
DEAR DANIEL. THAT BEAUTY OF A BUFFALO LOOKS LIKE IT'S ON IT'S LAST LEG! Could be my eyes..however she's a beautiful coin. THANK YOU ABOUT learning me Die Striation? That's AWESOME. WOW. I gotta lot more to learn
THANK YOU FOR SHARING. Happy Memorial Day! 🐈🐈🐆🐆🐃💕💕💕💕💕
Love your channel. Best by far, honestly. Thank you for letting us all in on the knowledge you’ve accumulated over the years. I have many ‘67,’68 P half dollars with major machine doubling. Does it add any value? Does it reduce value? Typically….. thanks again.
Thanks for the lesson, I am new at this and the doubling is ...confusing, but learning🙄😁
One thing I've learned is that there's often notching you won't see in Mechanical doubling. When I first started collecting I confused the 2....and learned quickly how rare alot of these DDs are.
Question: why is Lincoln not doubled in the 55 double die? Is the motto & date struck at a different time than the design?
It is doubled but it’s a class 1 doubled die and it’s important to know what each class is. I did a video on those.
Thank you Daniel for your teachings and helping those in need of. I've been watching your videos for awhile now but just recently joined. I have a few coins that I could use some help on what do you think of this.
I tried to send you an image of my 2022D uncirculated MS DD Obverse and Reverse Nina Otero-Warren in email I think. I need Guidance PLEASE
I found a coin with 2 mint marks side by side, how do I find out the value?
This video was very helpful, I have a penny that was struck twice and some Bou nickels that have those lines on the side all the way around it I found three of them, the rest didn't have it, does anyone know where I could get these coins appraised.. it sucks because I talk to One coin person show them the pictures and he says no it's really nothing you don't got, everyone else says that I got something
Unless the person is an expert then you can't believe when they tell you that you have something. You can post your images here coinauctionshelp.com/forum/index.php
katsumi Jessie Lar thank u daniel for u r kind information. I have a collection of us penny 1 cent from 1960 to 2004. I need u r help to sell of this coins , the real market value

What do you call a coin that looks like it's been painted and it has the lines like a paint brush?
Painted
Good one again. You made them easier to understand.
Excellent video.....helped unscramble my brain!!👍👍
Wow. This is extremely helpful and educational and I thank you for sharing it.🙏🏽😊
What camera app or tool do you use on your computer?
I use a logitech camera
Thank you Daniel!! ! was looking for an easier way to explain to my friends how those are made!!
Do you know of any 1979 dd reverse on the "United States" and on the "One". How do I get to confirmation if I have a DD? Please help
Check coppercoins.com
@@CoinHELPu thanks
That Buffalo is such a nice pick! Congrats on that one!
Are 1968 to 1974 S mint pennies worth collecting if just normal condition, no doubling, etc. just because they have an S mint mark?
i collect them still and yes because they are needed to fill coin folders
Hey there. So, I'm fairly new to this and I'm finding it's fun, exciting and a bit challenging. I'm learning a lot from you and your channel. You're a great teacher ... Thank you 😊
Thank you!
Yes I agree, I too have learned plenty from you. Machine doubling is the "Red headed step child of Doubled Die".
@CoinHELPu what kind of doubling is this on both size of this coin?
d1htnxwo4o0jhw.cloudfront.net/pcgs/cert/47255785/large/268488525.jpg
There is no word in the dictionary for whom you are. Thank you
I have a 1972 Lincoln cent dd obverse just on the 2. No, not machine struck. Can I send a photo to you ?. I'm a senior and need help
What kind of scope/camera do you use?
I don't. I use a 10x jewelers magnifier. You don't need a scope to see something worth something.
I have learned so much today, thank you kindly.
You're welcome
Thanks Dan I was confused especially with these newer coins they're so shiny that I was taking the the glare that they put around the coin as doubling I'm like everyone's double you did awesome you explain what I'm looking for now I always thought they made the numbers in the letters like you would make it a 3D look on the letters and numbers that's where I was getting confused thanks a lot again Dan I like to hear from you👍
Is a double die always considered a coin value asset, or can it hurt value?
It does not hurt the value
@@CoinHELPu Thank you, sir! After watching your videos on double die vs machine doubling, I think mine is a machine double --- with one very strange twist that I cannot explain. Rather than to bore you with it, I'm going to send it to PCGS for grading. Now, if it is a very rare coin with machine doubling, what certifications should I seek to get the most out of an auction????? I will now shut up and await your answer!
@@ChicagoHOG27 there's no doubled die coin worth sending to auction or grading with machine doubling.
@@CoinHELPu May I message you privately? I can send you images of my coin, if you would like. You have a knowledge base that I could only dream of, but I'm not a dumb person, and do believe that this coin is borderline "specimen" status. I just don't know what impact machine doubling will have on this particular coin. It is a mid-1800s seated liberty half.
@@ChicagoHOG27 I don't help people one on one with their coins, people at CONECA forum will do that for you.
Your videos are so educational. Thank u
You're welcome
This Double strike also a valuable or collectible?
Wasnt there some DBL DIE dimes in 2016?
I have a 1969 s that has a double ear and nose and forehead and possibly a double eye would u take a few minutes to look at it not sure how to get u the pic tho I would appreciate it a lot
How much should a 1943 weigh? I have some at 3g and some at 2.6g
They can vary and that is normal and you need scales that weighs in tenths not rounding up.
Thanks what is machine doubling ?
I have a 1992 double ear is there any possible way I could show it to you and let you,, look at it and tell me what you think about it?? LMK
