Natalie Dessay is a QUEEN, good god!!!
The first 28 seconds are very relateable.
Fabulous, taken at an impossible speed and it works, such joy

When my friend told me that the Can Can was from the original Hadestown opera, I was like “I MUST SEE THIS”
The tale of Orpheus and Eurydice has been adapted in opera ever since the mid-17th century, after the florentine camerata established a precedent for early opera focusing on Greek mythos, hundreds of years before Offenbach was even born
@@evelyns5258 Aye! "Original Hadestown" - nah, it's a classic Greek tale. Hadestown is the first and original Hadestown, while each other derivative is their own work as well.
The costumes and dances aren't what I would have chosen but this cast's use of screeches is so far the best attempt I've seen, It actually captures what the opera is trying to convey.
It's an Operetta though not an Opera exactly.
Being a stickler for accuracy I must correct myself actually yes it s a full opera, rather though called Orphée aux enfers. Was actually Offenbach's first ever full one as well (mostly gets associated though of course with Operetta's which are satirical in nature as often was/is the case, is poking fun at Napoleon III)
@@jsmithmultimediatech damn you really came back to correct yourself 3 years later, nice
@@martintobar7966 Then after a year of making my correction you make that pointless pitiful comment. Get a life lol.
@@jsmithmultimediatechand also Gilbert and Sullivan shows ARE operas. I said what I said.

Wow now that's a performance.
Great show, great female vocals!
Natalie Dessay makes me think of Kristin Chenoweth in Candide when she sings Glitter and Be Gay 😂😂😂
But Dessay sings that song better!

What is supposed to happen in this scene?
Eurydice is happy she's not going to that dick Orpheus, that dick Jupiter or that dick Pluton, she's instead going to the absolute party man himself: Bacchus.
In the Orpheus and Eurydice myth, Orpheus descends into the underworld and convinces the god Hades to let him lead his late wife back to the world of the living. Hades agrees on the condition that Orpheus is not allowed to look at her on the way. He, of course, does, dooming them both.
In this parody of the myth, Orpheus doesn’t actually want to rescue Eurydice, but is forced to by Public Opinion. When Orpheus looks and banishes Eurydice back to the underworld, Pluto (Hades) is also sick of her and complains to Jupiter, the king of the gods. Jupiter resolves the situation by deciding she should become a priestess of Bacchus, the god of parties.
This video starts with her being ejected out of the underworld and into Bacchus’s service, and the opera ends with a reprise of the song played during one of Bacchus’s parties in an earlier scene.
After bows, the cast gives an encore of the full party number (the Galop infernal), this opera’s most famous song.
This is my fucking homework...

@@JoshFreilichare you a musician ? Or french ?
Ce n'est pas supposé être chanté ?
Et les rares paroles n'ont même pas l'air d'être en francais. De toute manière elles sont incompréhensibles.
Man, imagine waiting the whole opera to see Can Can just for that half-baked rendition.
New perspective but without meaning
meaning is overrated.
Наркоманская тусовка.
Inappropriate and unimaginative Cancan costumes.
You prefer to see dancers wearing skirts and Rolling legs in the air like in the Moulin Rouge cabaret..... Petit coquin....
Ehem, do you even know what this opera was for? What it was making fun of at the time in the crudest way? C'mon, now. This is Offenbach we're talking about.
bro, u need a tissue over there? goddammit man, just go somewhere else then
agreed. this whole scene looks awkward and poorly coordinated
It's an Operetta though named Orphée aux enfers in French, Operettas being generally much lighter than Operas, shorter in length, light hearted and usually amusing too.
I really dislike this version, especially men in skirts in the cancan.
Offenbach wrote it to be as over the top and offensive as possible, since the whole opera was meant to be a parody. Modern audiences aren't as shocked by it, so I think this version is more faithful to the original intent than most by going so far.
Homophobe!
imagine watching operas as a homophobe lmao when 3/4 of their makers were gay
@@tahiragibson6407 he probably don't like it because it turns him on. lol
It’s supposed to be demonic.
