This earthquake just proves that still a lot of work has to be done by the engineers, scientists and regulators to prevent humanity from such catastrophes in the future. It looks like Turkish seismic code was not accurate or strict enough in providing the design response spectra for the engineers. I am wondering if other more modern seismic codes (i,e, IBC 2018) would give a more similar design response spectra to the actual one.
