  • ✒️ One of János Arany's best-known ballads, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 was written in 1857 in response to a request for Hungarian poets to praise the visit of Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria. 🕮
The poem served as passive resistance to the repressive politics and it was published anonymously to evade censorship for criticising the tight Habsburg rule over Hungary.
Nowadays all Hungarian students learn The Bards of Wales in view of its literary importance and historical message that commemorates the Hungarian Revolution of 1848.
