I could listen to Neil talk for hours.
+MrMorganfarts so do I
One cheek sneaks and the future would be bleak if people didn’t get their asses to Neil Peart University.
Neil was knowledgeable about so many things. What a remarkable man, and so self-effacing and humble. How touching to hear him reminisce about his teenage years, his first kit etc. Truly gutted that he is no longer amongst us (although he is with us still, in other ways). 😔❤️🙏
Please make a movie on Neil's life. There is a lot of gold in there.
A lot of gold, but it would be so hard to do him justice, don't you think? Neil would've cringed at the very idea, me thinks!!
RIP Neil Peart still hard to believe you are gone ="(
What a wonderful human being he was... The world is something less now than it was when Neil was still alive. His passing has really hit so many of us really hard. RIP Neil.
I am now smarter after listening to Neil. I love you.
The book Neil mentions, This Is Your Brain on Music, is beyond fascinating. Anyone with even a passing interest in music should check it out.
Thanks for the heads up I'm definitely going to get it I'm a Therapist and a long time drum student i can't wait to read it
neil inspired me to be a drummer, now I am a musician in Africa. if you want to see my music check out Kilebu. thanks to rush for all their inspiration
I can't believe I haven't seen this before. I love and miss Neil. Perfect timing to see this a year after he passed. Rest in rhythm, Neil.
Neil Peart really lived life to the fullest.
Rip Neil you will be missed
Greatly
No much English, I want to say something, He is a complete drummer, what he has of humble ALSO has him of TALENT !
Well said
Thank you for writing in English for us who can't speak other language. Please keep writing, you did very well and well said my friend. Bright Blessings to you and your loved ones.

"A Farewell to a King"👑
Great interview, can't believe this video posted 8 yrs ago only had 67 comments.
when my dad retired from playing gigs i inherited his 1965 Rogers 5 piece in champagne sparkle.
I saw an interview where his mother said he ALWAYS was reading books, all the time. That’s how became he was so knowledgeable about an array of subjects. I had a brother like that and he was so smart. I love hearing him talk because I know for sure I’m going to learn something from what he says. He certainly gets me thinking about things that I most likely would not even think about. He’s certainly was great with words, just by his lyrics, you can see he’s an observer of life. RIP, Neil. You were not just an amazing musician, but a kind and gracious man.
A very wonderful man. An inspiration to so many of us.
Well said,Sabrina!!
Neil Peart+
Memory Eternal+
Sounds good watching this video this morning- feels like we are in the room realizing the humanity of it all - Peace+ Love drumming more since getting a gig with the Veteran Post as the house drummer - been since 2016 since public drumming- great to be at it again- missing Neal Peart+ so down to earth and reassuring to hear this conversation with this interviewer- Great Video interview -
Being one of the best bands in the world, being ignored commercially because they are selling widsom not sex appeal, lyrics are poetry-literature and music will produce musicians for another 100 years. Thankfully the last years the audience perception increased and they were not playing for funs only. We are greatful to had them and we will miss them. I flew from Athens to London on 25/5/2011 to see them live, a dream that came true. In 2022 I had my 11 year son with me watching Iron Maiden and took a look around and it was full of families 16 years, 14 years, 11 years, 8 years old kids and gave me a huge smile. They were not looking to headbang, they were there to listen and experience. Thank God people are slow in understanding but in the end they learn and appreciate...
1:30 Neil's referring to the Rheostatic's album Whale Music, a real masterpiece
Every Rheostatics album is a real masterpiece.
The world absolutely lost a very special human being when he passed away
“ when I heard that he was gone, I felt a shadow cross my heart” “nobody’s hero by Rush “
I cannot believe that i have never seen this interview. When i was a kid and started listening to music with interest I couldn't stand the music my father listened too. When i got into playing Bass my dad told me to check out Geddy Lee, Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones. I really dived into Rush. I have been such a fan since i was 16 years old and really started appreciating the music.
Neil is an absolute genius and so talented and he is the professor!!!! I love a great rhythm section bass and drum parts that mesh and groove.
RIP Neil Peart... What an absolute powerhouse. You have inspired and will continue to inspire new generations of drummers and air drummer's for thousands of years to come
16;30 --18;11---- with a big finish whack!!... and he said,,how did you do that? the singing, dancing, such a Joyous scene it must have been......he gave us so much...looking back.. it was a gift... like in the movie phenomenon ..he wanted nothing from no-one and gave a lot too many...and I still feel him when the wind blows...on the bare and weathered shore the waves crash with a permanent sound..
We all studied at Neil Peart University and took Air Drumming 101.....................1001 and beyond. A lifelong process of studying the master drummer’s substance and dynamics. Neil Peart University Alumni ( TM). Thanks Neil!
I would love to have been able to get Neil Peart and James May (who has a degree in music) together and just listen to them talk music, cars, life...
I enjoy listening to Neil and learn something new every time.
God bless his soul (and I'm sure He has).... will miss him.
I've never seen this footage before. Thanks for the upload 👍
Thanks for this. I completely understand and agree.
Anyone else notice the lamp stand is a drum stand?
Wow, this may be the best interview with The Professor I have ever seen. Lots of insight here.
dope vid
"Moving Pictures" did that to EVERYONE who had ears to hear and a spirit to appreciate the genius of it.
The Body -soul is music ! The way the Creator made us is pure music in my humble opinion. We are finely tuned like an instrument ! Imagine what potential we truly have ? If only one can tap into that thing or force in side of ourselves! I truly believe that I have only found THE ZONE maybe 5 or 6 times in my life and it was short lived .I really think that tuning out everything in ones head and meditate long on balance ,what ever picture gives one a sense of balance and you will see that the ZONE will be accesible! Quiet down to clean the slate if you will! Focus ,focus, focus , be in the moment and nowhere else! Praise Yah!
I keep seeing Tom Hanks when I see Neil at this point. Would love Tom to do a bio film or Rush film as Neil's story is so interesting and is ultimately a tragedy waiting to be made.
NO
Neil gets asked a 'yes' or 'no' question.
His answer: a thousand words
Lol
was this filmed in 2015??
Where can I get that lamp?!
I'm thinking the same thing! And maybe one on a boom stand.
Neil was a bit eccentric , but in a beautiful way , introverted but so relatable.
Here are examples of iambic pentameter in use: From “Holy Sonnet XIV” by John Donne: “As yet but knock, breathe, shine and seek to mend. Every other word in these two lines of poetry is stressed. How many rock musicians do you know that uses the word iambic pentameter? RIP Neil.
David Koresh interviews NP?
When was this? Trying to guess Neil’s age
2009
Kevin Spacey + Tom Hanks = Neil Peart.
would take Spacey outta it if I were you lol
Neil Peart is in a premiere class--as a drummer, lyricist, writer, philosopher. Those other guys? They're simply actors.
Dick...LOL
Um .. NO. stop with the tom Hanks bullshit. Spacey and him love little boys. Peart had more intelligence in his pinky than those 2 mutts combined
Is it me or does Neil have more hair in this video?
No, it's simply a new hairstyle...only his hairdresser know s for sure. And who cares--it's The Professor.
Apparently, he would cut his hair to crew-cut levels for tours and let it grow out when he was off the road.
Yep, he'd get a buzz cut in july, and let it grow out @@stevedrums1675
@@kai326 According to his own writing, this is correct. He would typically buzz his hair to practically bald around mid-summer. And that was pretty much it. So, if you saw him again almost a year later, he was deep in what he himself called "My Mad Scientist phase". This video was probably shot around early to mid-winter by dint of that knowledge.
And,fellow Canadian Burton Cummings did similar back in the day..
This guy has Neil Freaking Peart in front of him and he spends this time to talk about himself!
WTF???
They're friends through a collaboration, having a conversation. Do you think Neil would have wanted him to suck up to him? Absolutely not who Neil was. He was obviously comfortable talking to Neil.
Calm down woman. It just proves that he's not a shallow dbag narcissistic celebrity like the majority out there, that can't have a normal conversation without had to be just about them. Go check out Rogan's podcast with the prima Donna James Hatfield and tell what who you would like to have an interview or an conversation with.
@@DavidSiciliano2100 Yes, I've seen so many interviews with Neil in which he expresses how he wants nothing more than to have conversation with people, human to human, simply sharing a moment or thought, with no acknowledgment of what his profession may be. "I'm just a guy in a hat"...
@@rickeaton3085 True. If it was a suck-up-athon, Neil would likely have gotten really uncomfortable. If it's two guys sharing stories, that was usually the best way to get Neil to open up.
Rushs music Became Too complex at some point people wouldnt listen too it.
oh yeah? when was that?
seriously? no! in no way is that true!
Cecelia Marble what in the blue fuck are you talking about?
NEWS FLASH! People DO listen to them! 40 MILLION ALBUMS SOLD!
Yea only 40 million albums were listened to, DVDs, VCR tapes , live recordings, videos galore, sooooo I'm gunna have to call bullshit your honor
Thanks to Neil and his band I too have been a professional musician with the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony for the last 34 years.Their influence has been tantamount in my development of the elements of music( I play first violin). My heart is still broken with Neil's passing...
