How sad is it that Drew says “the first time I ran away.” and says it so casually. She had such a rough childhood and yet she is the most compassionate, composed, brilliant, optimistic and best human being. Such an inspiring story of perseverance and making the most of your life. Punky Brewster was the first TV show I followed as a child. I'd watch it every Sunday night and then go to school Monday and play out the scenes with my friends on the playground.

This show is successful because Drew Barrymore has good quality conversations with actors/artists/singers etc. She relates to growing up and living under the lights of Hollywood. She is an ACTIVE listener which is important, she lets guests have there say and seems very engaged aswell
FINALLY finally!! The stories we needed to hear about the childhood actors of my era. The FUN! We need to hear more and more of these. We ALL reflect by this age. Theres almost no better way than from the horse's mouth to do it:)

As someone who developed early and to the extreme, I can totally identify with being sexualized at such a young age. I spent so much of my life dreaming of the day I could finally afford a breast reduction, and I wept when it finally happened. It's upsetting to see how little has changed when it comes to being well endowed. I see it still happening to Billie Eilish, who hid it well for years only to be mocked for it when the cat was let out of the bag. Reduction isn't the solution for everyone, and it should be carefully considered, because it's a brutal process. But it shouldn't feel like that's what it takes to be viewed as a person. I know I felt that way for a very long time. Love these women to bits and it's so lovely to see them doing so well.
Is it a painful surgery? I’m sorry you had to go through that.
My sister needs it so badly, but she's been told by insurance that her BMI is too high. ☹️
@@ednajwolff She could lose weight first. Since breast tissue is fat, once she starts losing weight her breasts will naturally reduce. Surgery is the last resort.

I've been rewatching Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Loved it as a kid. Soleil was great in the last few seasons. And she looks basically identical.

I didn’t recognize Soleil on Sabrina at first. I didn’t recognize her on Wonder Years either. I think that’s one of the roles she would like to forget. I was very young like four or five when Punky Brewster started. When I rewatched the only episodes I remembered were the ones where Punky is temporarily living with two rich people and they serve oysters. I finally figured it out when she smiled really big when her character fell in love with a warlock. I recognized her smile. The reboot wasn’t bad but if they get another season they should talk about Cheri’s coming out. She was so boy crazy in the original series.

Soleil is amazing. To actually almost always have a video camera with her speaks volumes. Now we have smart phones. Back then cameras were huge. Mayem that plays Blossom was kind of ahead of her time also with the dancing and costume changes. Way before TikTok
@Libby Tarded I was a teenager in the 80’s. Only the rich kids had video cameras. 😂 but all the fluorescent clothing was everywhere along with parachute pants and feather roach clips and sun-in

That’s funny because I think Soliel was the cutest little girl I’d ever seen. I was so jealous of her freckles and I used to tie bandana’s on my jeans.
Such a good documentary. I'm glad she got to clear things up and give her perspective on growing up in the industry
I totally loved the raw of the documentary and see all those young actors again and find out what happened with them was so sad. RIP

Soleil came to my grandma Julie for a reading at the Psychic Eye Bookstore on Ventura Blvd. This was when she was in a down period and she said her back hurt all the time. My grandma told her to get a breast reduction & She did and was so much happier.

Somewhere in an alternate universe, Drew ran away to Soleil Moon Frye's house at age 46.
I remember one episode where Punky was obsessed with having breast, as was I, and she said, "I must, I must, I must increase my bust...a bust, a bust, a bust is just a must" and ironically she ended up needing a breast reduction. I chanted that line for years, and as a gift and a curse...I never had that problem

Drew, great point about people's sensibilities towards cameras in the pre-social media age. I captured most of my 90's experience through small film cameras. Remember the tiny stylish Elph camera's back in the day? Very pocketable. Would love to meet you some day. 🤘
