It reminds me a lot of a chain that used to be here in the US, called Save-A-Lot. The pricing and displays are very similar. It was a fantastic store to shop in. The prices were lower than the bigger local chains. I was very happy to see that they offer Zero Sugar sodas now. If I ever visit Moscow, I want to make sure that I can get my "diet" soda. Being a diabetic is sometimes difficult to manage when travelling abroad.

The prices look good in Russia, a 20oz soda costs around $2.30 (210rub), but those 1L are $0.85 (78rub) for almost 2x the amount.

This shop is huge, much bigger than Aldi in Perth
I love your Hypermarkets you showed us. They are huge and have so much products. Here in Perth Australia we don't have shops like you in Russia. 😢
Are you going do a video in the globes down the road from this store love your videos.

The store looks very similar to my local Costco. 😀 We are used to pulling products directly from the boxes that they arrived in.
Right! Exept you have to pay annual fees to shop at Costco and Sam's Club...
It's not as big as a Costco, we have that style of shop here also. One is called Metro, the other Selgros. ua-cam.com/video/jf8qtiWzBzM/v-deo.html Both stores are member style, like Costco or Sams Club.
@@TravellingwithRussell
Rassell, there is no memberships fees for Metro. You just need to register online to get a memberships card... I'm not sure about another store...
@@Sergey_BezhentsevMetro used to have that 'not for everyone' membership system in Russia for years, but not any longer.
@@granuja9776
Oh, didn't know that. I moved to Russia in 2019... Thanks...
In Russia, almost every store has versions of Coca Cola without sugar. And energy drinks too.
this is similar to Sam's Club in the US .. just without the pallet racks above the sales floor. I would certainly shop there .
Hey Russell from Canada 🇨🇦, I would most def shop here, love discount grocers. On Sunday i do curbside pick up from Walmart for the bulk of it, midweek i pop into Freshco a discount grocer .
Monsanto feeds you, but Monsanto and GMOs are banned in Russia.

Great video! Question, what are those big grey sign looking things at each register?
Ha, this supermarket looks like the first Aldi about 45 years here in Bavaria/Germany!😅 your Discounter is OK,Russell, and most probably the products have reasonable prices!
We also have such stores now in Obninsk. They have clever self-service cash machines, they check the weight of the products you buy etc. In Pyaterochka or Vkusvilk, these self-service desks are much simpler.
Do they truck the snow away after the snow? There seems to be great snow clearing there.
In some areas they do. It depends on the local administration of the region.
@@TravellingwithRussell , I am guessing they do there because so many parking areas on the street are pretty much clear allowing full parking.
Pretty much all the cheeses and sausages in the freezer are Byelorussian, famed for their quality in Russia

These stores are common in Europe. In the Czech Republic they are called Makro stores.
I've heard of this brand before.
I found out that the Chesnok discount chain belongs to the owners of several retail chains in Belarus. It is not surprising that there are many products produced in Belarus.
So far there are only a few stores in the chain, in regional cities of central Russia, in the suburbs of Moscow and St. Petersburg. I can assume that you were in the space city of Korolev.
Thank you for the video! It’s a great one as usual. I like the self check out counters. The way to expedite the process. Not really looking for personal interactions with store employees. My wife likes Aldi. I don’t find it interesting. Trader's Joe's is much better! We buy at any store, including Walmart (their fruits and vegetables are good, I always order cat food from them for delivery), Dollar General for Corona beer; Food City for ham hocks (I like them with beans); Fresh Market and Whole Foods for locally farmed milk, seafood and meats. Very local stores for meat, produce and cheese. Чижик -reminds me a nice movie: не может быть. It’s a great Soviet comedy movie.
In Canada we do not have "discount stores"Those that claim that are ,not any cheaper than "regular" rip off stores where prices are astronomical.Kilo of decent caged Beef is around 65$ and up.Dozen of so called "free range"eggs is 7.60-9.00 Dollars?
Impossible. It means this sector of market is free, so if you will open such shops, you can became billionaire :)
Do you have “No Frills” supermarkets where you are?
IM from Norway. Here in norway Pepsi Max is the biggest varity. You can buy Orginal Pepsi but its only sold in singel bottels . You can't buy liqer and wine in grocery shops only beer. Wlne and liquer must be bought in so called monopoly stores owned by the Norwegian goverment.
But we have several discount stores. Many of them is the chain Rema 1000 wich is inspired buy The Aldi Chain. Keep up your good work Greatings from Norway
I’m in TX, US. Looks similar to Aldi, I like store!! Our Aldi does not sale beers, they do have imported wine. I usually hit several stores during week from hyper, to like where you are now, we even have super discou ted Ollie’s, which is a clearance center but only dry goods and some unclaimed or over stock house/yard items!
okay this place is on my list to shop if i ever go to Russia. and again i see 7up that still has sugar in it, we only have have 7up zero here in Denmark and it is not good at all,
the new pepsi logo is actually the old pepsi logo from the '70s. I guess I'm showing my age. 🤣
Yes it's good in the shopp 👍👍🇸🇪🇷🇺👍
IT was very good. I just need one closer to where I live.
On my last work trip, my flight from Colorado, USA, to Texas, USA, gave me a Japanese Coke Zero. It was a different type of can and tasted slightly different. I wonder what the taste difference is depending on the country the soda comes from. I know the use of natural sugar is a big difference between Mexico's use of sugar and the USA's use of high fructose corn syrup. The prices look good in Russia, a 20oz soda costs around $2.30 (210rub), but those 1L are $0.85 (78rub) for almost 2x the amount.
That particular Pepsi logo is from 1969 (I googled that). They just renewed it for some reasons. And thanks for that video, I never knew about that chain of supermarkets before. You were at the Korolev I think, it's the closest to Moscow. Alex from Govorovo.
When you live in New Zealand and its so exspensive, would you shop here is a slap to the face and a kick in the nuts 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Plus the checkout operators have no personality. That’s why I go through the self checkouts. They have more personality.
I don't like self checkout I always queue for a member of staff to serve me. I like Lidl and our biggest Supermarket here Mercadona.
I use selfcheckouts when I buy only a small amount of things. Also when there are a lot of people. What's the point in standing in a huge line,if you can use self checkout and go home.
It’s a bit like an American city but without drugged up citizens dying on the sidewalks.
Not in every country one can go and film. Not every country has totally cool customers that pay no attention to these who film them. Russia today is one of the greatest and safest countries in the world with sane populations-I want to highlight-SANE, because nowadays there are so many insane crackheads up there in the so-called west.
Its totally ok to film in public places in the most countries.

Sometimes i think its a courtesy to use the self service in smaller shops like a Coop. Late at night in England maybe only one or two people working and if they are busy shelf stacking i will use the self service. In the bigger stores self service is popular to avoid queues if you only have a basket. Nobody uses the scanners you can get to scan items as you put them into a trolley

I think it was like Aldi also.
18:55 actually, lays stax is more than available, so, it's some kind of substitution, i guess. Also, i found in local Magnit some chips, which called "Peke". From China (139 ₽ or ~1.5 $). And that ones almost same as Pringle
From America… the outside looks a bit odd for a grocery store having offices on floors above it. The ramp is quite steep incline hard to go up. Loaf bread is dirt cheap. Could easily live on bread, jar of jam spread, slice cheese. I pretty sure Pepsi & Coke is cheaper in Russia. That 2 Liter bottle was 128 rubles or under $1.40 where in US it is $2.50. I do notice the store is not busy. Would I shop there? Sure… I’d go grab a few things. But would not buy all there.
