    So the Achillies heel for State Bicycle Co still is their quality control (but equally could be the shippers handling of the shipment) when you buy direct. However, if you do get your bike assembled at a bike shop and keep the receipt, they will honor any issues that pop up very swiftly. I got these with bent drop bars but because I took it to a shop to be assembled, they sent me new ones free of charge.

    I've had a road bike for a couple decades, and several gravel bikes over the years as well. With the roads being kinda chunky anymore, I see road bikes becoming obsolete for the unprofessional. I want one of these so bad. Thanks for the video

      100%! That is my experience as well, roads aren't being maintained very well and getting stuck with a dedicated road bike when a shortcut that's offroad, this gravel bike has provided me that option rather than my road bikes. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    I love the versatility of this bike. It won't be good for a fast group ride or technical MTB trails, but it does EVERYTHING in between and N+1 is all but dead. The groupset has been great, reliable shifts, comfy hoods as I don't mind that bump in them and they feel almost as good as 105 in my hands, dropped a chain only 2x so far. I got it set up in touring/commuter mode and can ride all day so comfy, it carries weight well when getting groceries and even feels slightly better somehow, more planted, with a little weight on it. Urban assault is really fun considering how aggressive you can be whilst only losing 2mph or so vs a $1000 road bike on flat ground. If you ever have to ride on a really bumpy sidewalk due to bad roads/crazy drivers, this bike makes it actually fun, even preferable over the smooth road. The only issue is this bike is so comfy in it's current configuration that it allows me to be lazy, I gotta bust out the fixed gear now and again to remind me to go hard on this all-road too. I second the suggestion to size down if in any doubt. It still fits even though I'm at the upper end of the sizing recommendation, but I feel it's more suited for long trips and a little less maneuverable, one size down would be perfect. Have it assembled or buy it from a bike shop for sure!

    I've been riding my All-Road for a few months and the ONLY knock I have is that the brakes just seem terrible. Maybe mine just have issues but I've adjusted them over and over, cleaned the rotors and pads...nothing seems to make much of a difference. No matter what I do, I cannot get these to lock up or even come close to stopping me quickly. I'll be switching them to the TRP Spyre.

    I have a state 4130 road (same bike in my picture) that I've had for almost two years now and have put it through hell and back. I've taken it on around 10 bike packing trips, I've put thousands of miles on it, I've even taken it on some local pump tracks and off small mountainbike jumps on single track trails and of course plenty of gravel and road rides. One time I rode it really fast down this rough, gravel road and the fork flexed so much from an impact that for a moment it felt like it was a suspension fork and I thought I broke it but it ended up being totally fine and still rides perfectly. The frameset is absolutely bombproof.
    There were/are a couple issues with the bike such as the rear axle spacing being a little smaller than 130mm, some damage to the paint and derailleur hanger and some very poor components that come stock on the bike but for the price it is a total bargain and I plan on having this bike for a long time

    I bought the XS version 1 of the All Road 4130 a couple of months ago from someone who was leaving the area. I got both wheelsets for an incredible deal. Even if I had to pay full price, I'd still give the bike props becaause it just seems to do everything I need for it to do considering my riding area and style. I live in the DC area and there are no trails or roads that thix 1 x 11 setup can't handle. If I eventually go on a bike tour that has mountains, i imagine I will change the front chainring from 42 to 38 or 36. I don't think I'll miss the top end speed if I do this. Next season, I'll probably swap out the rear cassette with SRAM and maybe even change the derailleur, but it has all been solid over the past two months. I've had one chain drop, but that's not bad, all things considered. I didn't notice the sparkle paint until I had it out in the sun and was driving in the right direction to see it sparkle. It's a beaut! I recommend the State All Road 4130 - mind you, I haven't ridden other gravel bikes in its price range or higher.

      Heck yea glad to hear you got one! I mentioned this in a recent video the ONLY reason I sold it was to fund a move across the country. The biggest regret ever!
      I have my new gravel bike setup now and it’s just not as good as this bike.
      You mentioned not riding other gravel bikes around this price range or higher, but I do believe that it would just be splitting hairs past this point and it’s such a good bike. I hope to get another in the near future!

    I’m curious about the sizing. You said you’re 6’1 and got a medium and it measures out to about a 56?? That just seems small. I’ve been considering one of these bikes. I have a specialized diverge E5, it’s a 58 and I’m 6 foot. I’m worried I wouldn’t like the medium even though that is what they recommend.

    • @newoldsteel
      @newoldsteel Рік тому

      Thanks for your comment!
      Yep, the effective top tube length is 55cm, but I personally do not like shorter stems at all, which my preference for stems is at the absolute minimum 115mm, and max 130mm. This bike I have that 120mm stem.
      I have ridden size 60cm frames, 58cm frames, and size 55-57 and the preference came over time of trying multiple bikes (a lot of buying then selling on ebay hence why I was able to afford all this lol).
      If you are comfortable on your size 58 frame and have plenty of time/experience on it, the effective top tube length for the size large is 57.5 according to their size spec PDF so this may be closer to your preference if you absolutely love your size 58.
      If you're not confident in that frame size, the reason they recommend if you're in between sizes is to size a frame size down as you are able to essentially make a smaller frame fit bigger, but can't really make a bigger frame fit smaller (hence why I owned and had to sell my larger frames I rode in the past the size 60 and size 58 frame)

    Does anyone has the issue when you shift to the biggest cog at the back the chain returns to the adjacent cog? Is this a tensioning problem, or should replacing the derailleur with the SRAM version will fix it?

    • @newoldsteel
      @newoldsteel 23 дні тому +1

      I have an older video addressing this issue pretty much, and the SRAM rear derailleur did help, but I also switched to a SRAM pg-1130 cassette too at the same time so not sure if it was one or the other, but it did 100% fix it and also I never replaced the front chainring so that wasn't the culprit

    • @MegaXtc11
