Well of all the ways I have seen of lighting a fire I have never seen this toneldoos method before. I really do keep learning .I love this .Thanks for sharing with us I can't wait to make one for myself and add yet another great item to my kit . .The history lesson was a nice touch too . Thank you .

Excellent video. Gratitude I was intrigued by the antique Bible upon which the Tinder Box sat so chose the video. I pray your faith and trust is still intact.. 🙏🏼📖🕊
Morning, thank you for your message. Yes, I built Boswa Survival on a deep and personal trust in God and He has never failed to bless me ! Abba is true in His word and only trust in Him can help us survive this broken world. Blessings to you ! Herman
Recently, I made 2 - 1/2" x 3" tinder tubes out of a copper stub. It was the easier, more affordable buy of copper tubing. My tinder source was from a Dollar Store cotton string mop head. Four of the twisted strands will fit nicely into each tube by kind of screwing them in. I gently tweaked 4 copper caps in a vise so that they stay in place on the ends of the tubes without falling off. They pull off easily. You don't need to use tubing large enough for a finger to fit in to push the tinder up in the tube. A sturdy stick or dowel rod works just fine. After initially charring the tinder, it lights easily with a ferro rod. This last weekend I bought a 1" Nicholson file and made 3 fire steels from it. They all through beautiful clusters of sparks. But keep in mind that any steel striker will work better with a piece of flint provided you have some good sharp edges on the flint to work with. So now, the better test of these tinder tubes and my skills was to light the tinder in them with that steel and a flint. Now I am a 61 year old woman, with old knees that don't like hiking, etc. But making these things and being able to make them work is a great hoot for me! : ) So you guys and gals can do this; it is not hard. I sat on my patio just now and struck embers on one of my tinder tubes 4-5 times with that flint and steel. My next project is to make waxed jute tinder. I might put some in a smaller diameter tube, but I will cut some to fit in an Altoids can. I think the whole concept of those are brilliant! : )
Hi Russell. It was a true privilege indeed. Just as it was an amazing privilege to have shared the extreme survival course with you and the other students this weekend. See you around the campfire again soon ! Herman
This is a really good design. The altoid tins seem to be what most people have around here, I've never seen this! I bet it takes up less space in my knife sheath.
Cool! You can also make a more modern one like I made recently to carry on your belt by gutting an old broken Maglite brand flashlight, preferably a smaller one like for when you're fixing your car or something. The parts are pre-made and screw together nicely. Also, hemp rope rubbed with wax or oakum is also very good as well as very historically accurate tinder, if rather strong-smelling like a campfire. Same with dried and powdered dung which the Zulus, Xhosa, Sotho, and other tribes that got these as trade items used and still use for living history. I'm American but really dig African stuff, so thanks for the tip. :)
Awesome tinder kit. I can see it excelling in arid and dry environments. I feel it could serve well if taken care of in the colder more northern environments.
Groete Herman
I bypassed all the commercially available stoves because they all suffer with the same problem.. Breathing. Heat rises.. So I invented my own. What's more is the Khantal wire handles allow me to pick up the fire and control the air for flat out heat or simmering by placing it flat on ground I take it to Greece every year on holiday and enjoy absolutely hassle free bbq ua-cam.com/users/shortsg_m2LNOg5zA?feature=shared
I don't know why youtube chose to recommend a 7 year old video, but I'm glad they did. Subbed.
Same.

Excellent video, what a privilege to hold the tinderbox that lit many fires, witnessed many stories, battles, losses, and victories.
