Thanks to that gentleman for his service from Ireland. My own dad is a Veteran of a different conflict. He was an Irish UN peacekeeper in the Congo in 1961, gave 6 month tour there, involved in several combat situations, as a Bren he was responsible for giving cover fire on several occasions. Apparently suffered nightmares for years when he came back. He's 83 now. I'll be in Normandy in July on Holidays this year so I'll be visiting Dday beaches and cemeteries again this year, haven't been to Belgium yet but plan to do some day to pay respect to these great men. My grandfather was a member of the British Homeguard in London during the blitz, he met my Irish grandmother over there and witnessed the bombing of London loads of times while my grandmother was pregnant with my mother. Eventually came back home to Tipperary Ireland in 52 with his wife and 2 girls.

I’m a Canadian & my Father & my Uncle( Mothers’ brother) were in WWII. They both survive but my Father was a very quiet person, not knowing what the war did to him mentally. He pass away in his late eighties. I only found out this year he told my oldest sister in his seventies that he got to see one of those concentration camps but I can’t remember which one, he just couldn’t talk about it to much. He said it was very real & he said he was sick for couple of days in what he saw. He was very upset talking about what he saw as the people were just walking skeletons. He said some people may think it didn’t happen but he witnessed the horrible experience of these people.😂😂😂😂😂😂 I feel the whole month of November should be for remembering all veterans in all wars, not just one day in November.

He probably felt deep and profound sadness that all his fellow soldiers couldn’t live their lives to the age 25. Wouldn’t watch their children and grandchildren grow. Never again know the soft touch of their partner’s cheek. Would this man be proud of who you are? Would the young men that gave their lives look down and smile at what you have done with the freedom they died for.? We call these men and women the greatest generation for the simple reason that me me me was not their first thought. When their country called on them they stood together and said we! We will not let them defeat us. We will stand and fight for the freedom that you now take for granted. Ask yourself would they be proud of you?
