This guy should not have been homeless. Unless he chose to be. Much 💘 love Norman. Vets should have immediate access to homes while they are serving their country.

The words homeless veteran shouldn't be a thing. We need to take the billions we're sending to countries that aren't allies and put it towards those that actually need it in our own country.

Why are veterans homeless for one? Why aren't veterans in our military paid more than anybody in congress or anything the other ones that fight to keep our independence correct or am I wrong? These kids at 18 years old goes out and dies for us and they're never right in their heads they see so much trauma and everything else I have PTSD so I know how bad it is mine is from different things. But people with you like who have power to make an impact on people why don't you guys start pushing the fact that the veterans and the military deserves more money and they should never ever ever ever be homeless or without or hungry what is going on with this country what happened just please help me with that? It's like Congress and the government doesn't care about our people who fight for us they're the only reason we're free? pretty much right

@jo jo , I worked with homeless veterans in Az for about 5 yrs, it’s complicated. Veterans can be very private people, they will let you assist them only if they can assure it’s not an inconvenience or it takes away from others. I agree 1000% they should be given pay, they all get medical, if they can get to a location for treatment.

@@maddieadams75 yes they are but when they think that contract to give their lives it should already be in the claws for them they should have a nice home waiting for them that just should be it there shouldn't be a no other answer at all none when they sign that paper to become into the military all that should be there waiting for him when they come home

@@maddieadams75 my uncle served in Vietnam and I love him so much and he does very very well I'm very proud of him he's a very amazing man so I understand that part but it should be in the class for them you know if you're going to go give your life and serve for this country they should have the highest pay that there is for US citizens I don't care who it is Congress anything I think it's crazy how TV entertainers make way more than veterans.

How about doing something before this happens, what is wrong with this country?
If our leaders are too incompetent/ stupid etc, there are models and plans available if they are able to read and follow instructions.

Sadly, Norman isn't an outlier, this is a rather common thing... void of the actual Funeral and attendees. As a Veteran ( Service Connected Disabled) and one who's dealt with the VA going on 30 years, in addition to being homeless for nearly 3 years... folks can say whatever to make themselves feel better, from personal experience, that's about all most do. The callous indifference, the baseless excuses, the overt fraud, and the outright rejection wears on you after a bit. Further, numerous Pro Vet Organizations are simply Shows being put on for profit.
When I enlisted and following Honorable Discharge 4 years later, I was called a fool among other things, for having Served. That was, until Reserve Units were activated and part-timers got a dose of Active Duty, and their families were clued in. Then began the "We Support Our Troops" marketing campaign. However, that ran it's course, and, while those who've enlisted in recent years are getting treated much better, those who came before are still getting shafted and put on the back burners... kind of like a Reset, dismissing those who have verifiable needs because it would cost too much to fix what's been consciously ignored for decades.
I enlisted at 17, got out at 21, reenlisted a year later and was declared Disabled, thus immediately discharged, I never filed for disability. Spent the next 20 years killing myself to get ahead, often just getting by. I was homeless in my 40s and worked my way out of that. Throughout it all, the VA focused on making me a Morphine addict until I refused and quit taking their ineffective poison. Since I won't allow them to make me an addict, I can't get any pain meds. Further, they love to direct folks to Mental Health, leaving them to wait for hours, then canceling the appointment because they somehow overlooked me, even though I checked in prior to said appointment, and repeatedly every 15 min following the scheduled time, per their directives; pathetically amusing and highly frustrating.
It's all a pathetic joke at our expense... no good deed goes unpunished. From my perspective, the VA is simply a Federal Institution that is required to deal with Veterans due to a contractual obligation, thus they focus on making their budget and keeping their folks employed under the pretense of helping Vet's, as to maintain funding. One of my Dr.'s was fired, my knee jerk response was, "so, how many Vets do you have to kill to get fired from the VA?". It is what it is.
RIP Norm... Bravo Zulu Council Woman O'Brien

The American flag the deceased had defended should have been placed on his chest and buried with him. Why was it given to somebody who is not related and never was there? REMEMBER ? He died HOMELESS?

It is not an honor unless you make male homelessness come down to the level of female homelessness. It has to do with not caring about males as much as females, period. His status as a veteran should not be why we mourn this. Nobody should be homeless. If the ratio were reversed in adult male to female homelessness, something would be done. I thank Mr. Culter for being human, as we all should, and hate that he was homeless, and hate that there's only sympathy for a dead homeless male if he happens to be a veteran. He's dead. We did nothing to honor him. A military burial will not bring him back to life and will do nothing to help him now.
