Hello. Assalmu alyakum to you and to everyone here. You comment reminded me of this supplication "I am pleased with Allah as my lord and with islam as my religion and with Muhammad sallahu alayhi wasalam as my prophet and messenger" I remember reading this that if you say this before sleeping and after waking up then Allah will be pleased with you on the day of Judgment
Edit: here is the hadith.
It was narrated from Abu Salam, the servant of the Prophet (saas), that :
the Prophet (saas) said: "There is no Muslim - or no person, or slave (of Allah) - who says, in the morning and evening: 'Radaytu billahi Rabban wa bil-Islami dinan wa bi Muhammadin nabiyyan (I am content with Allah as my Lord, Islam as my religion and Muhammad as my Prophet),' but he will have a promise from Allah to make him pleased on the Day of Resurrection."
May Allah make everything easy for all of us.

And for you problem. Just ask Allah to guide him to islam. Ask Allah to open his heart to the truth. Make dua for him (and for the Ummah too)
If he is a good person Allah will bring him closer to you and you will know when he does. You yourself should not engage in anything Allah has forbidden. Just be yourself.
