    So pleased to see MG 4 content on the channel. This is one of the only electric cars in the UK that does over 220 miles of range for £25,000 and because it isn't overpowered, it is actually insurable if you're under 21. Unlike a model 3 or ID 3, Born etc. Not to mention it comes with pretty much everything you'd want standard. Adaptive cruise, lane assist etc.
    I expect it to sell really well here in Europe, especially to the younger audience (under 25) here in the UK where insurance is super expensive and or not available on some cars due to age/experience.

    • @iambenmitchell

      Can't wait to see what the future holds for MG. This first version of the MG 4 is already pretty good, but there are a few small things that could be improved such as the responsiveness of the touchscreen, as well as some customisation. That said, the MG could be the best first (new) car/ev for many people, especially those who are young and inexperienced and cannot justify or aren't able to buy a Tesla.
      Would really love to see more EVs like the MG4, specifically cheap to insure ones that are 140bhp or LESS and around £25k.

      @@jellyd4889 stop bringing politics into it. The car is amazing. Affordable, great charging speed, range, and doesn’t have any options that drive up the price. Everything comes standard depending on the spec which makes it easy to manufacture and purchase as there’s less models to build and thus lower waiting times. and that’s what matters as it is a car. Most of your phone and laptop is built in China. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Chinese products.

    Hi Bjørn, I have had the 64 kWh version here in Sweden since december. I feel a difference in power between normal and sport mode and according to the manual it's recommended for "special conditions" for example mountain roads. Unclear if it would help with the powerlimit thought. Thanks for pointing out all the annoying things with the software like like having to disable lane assist everytime. Hopefully someone at MG is watching and taking note, cheers!

    Bjorn, you can check outside temp in the air-con menu. The figure of consumption seems to be frozen when it goes higher than 29.8kwh, however there’re two ways to get around this, one is switching to “since last charge” page, consumption is still keeping updated there. Another is to do a reset on the “from start” screen.

    I have read that the battery overheats under heavy load because the cooling system is under sized. So when the battery overheats, the car reduces the power output from the battery. 250 Nm should be more than enough torque to zip up the mountain.
    MG designed a thin battery pack to have a relatively low sitting positon qnd better handling, but in doing so apparently compromised on the cooling of the battery.

  • @gisobo
    @gisobo Рік тому +10

    Torque*Speed*x=Power. The factor x is fixed and defined by gears and wheel size. A car can't have power without the torque. The point of torque vs power on fossil cars is that you have to be in a specific rpm range to get the maximum torque (and power). EVs can pull from 0 rpm like a tractor.
    So the MG reduced its power and torque by the same factor.

    A year ago, GF and I went up that mountain ⛰️ leading to Doi Ang Khang in a rented Toyota Yaris 1.2 with no luggage.
    That was a scary experience. About 3 times at the steepest, we just made it rolling less than walking speed in the 1st gear. However! Ang Khang town used to be a place where Thai weekend seekers and naturelovers would spend some nights. Now the military knocked down all accommodations apparently because they in the first place was built illegally.

    One thing that most cars on the mountain test have in common is that they recuperate around 33% of what was spent uphill when going back down.

  • @LilaKuhJunge
    @LilaKuhJunge Рік тому +4

    The torque at the wheel pushes you uphill, *biut* the torque at the motor is geared and allows no conclusion of how good a car is uphill. The power is determined by mulitplying torque by rpm and that is what matters most in the end.

    16:29 maybe the consumption display limit comes from some common electronic component for the display computer they all use, and thats rated "wattmeter" works between 0 and whatever equals to that 298wh/km..

  • @donphobos
    @donphobos Рік тому

    The regen is also affected of derating, since both the power electronics and the active parts of the machine have to cope with the regenerative torque production. So if you have warmed it up to severe derating prior to requesting regenerative torque it will be limited, as well. Can also be a limitation from battery after long abuse with high currents over time.

  • @HenrikJacobsenDK

    Would be interesting to see the uphill performance with the extra 200kg as you mentioned yourself.
    A bit disappointing with the uphill performance, if it’s the 250Nm that’s the issue then the trophy/luxury would be just as bad.

    • @clasoskarsson2405
      @clasoskarsson2405 Рік тому +5

      Can't be the torque ! 250 Nm is really a lot, and even KIA/Hyundai let their new cars get 250 Nm instead of earlier 390 Nm.
      I think maybe the battery got to warm, or simply because not in Sport mode as the manual book says to have in hard driving conditions.

  • @donphobos
    @donphobos Рік тому +1

    Looks like that the continuous power rating of this driveline is very low. You have got into a pretty severe derating, either the inverter and / or the machine is overheated. My tip is that the stator has reached high temperatures (close to design limit for the insulation on the windings). Or even the power electronics have got up to the respective derating temperature of the coolant fluid.
