  • Many oboe players think that you need to play the most expensive oboes to sound good.
    No.
You need an oboe that makes YOU sound good. This is not the same for everyone.
I've been performing and teaching the oboe for 20 + years. I've helped countless oboists choose an oboe. It's such a fun process!

Great question!! The earliest I’ve started an oboe player is 8. They usually need a “petit mains” oboe. Before that, I would suggest learning the recorder. Also- your daughter has wonderful taste!

    Thank you!
We are currently waiting for delivery of a Howard’s jr+ oboes. I wish I knew there were other options out there under the petite mains category. The Howard’s was the only one I saw that was meant for smaller kids.
I’ve been in contact with an instructor to assess if she is developed enough to start on oboe. We might have to have her take recorder and piano lessons for year.
    Thanks again!

What is the youngest that you have someone start on oboe?
My daughter is six and wants to learn the oboe. She does not want anything else.
