A very wise decision by the Nobel Committee, that will have many positive effects. Congratulations, ICAN! And Congratulations Nobel Committee on such a great decision!
After one year of hard work for the 5th Rotaract ModelUN edition in Beirut, Lebanon under the Nuclear-Free World topic in August 2017, we are really excited to see that the topics we debated on are also the topics that brilliant people around the world are working too. Congratulations !
My happy day with the news on the nobel peace prize for ICAN! We celebrated this as Women and Sustainable Peace in the Netherlands. Moreover, we are optimistic that these fine campaigners can achieve even more with this moral and financial support.
Here, Here Joke Oranje!! I'm so happy ICAN was recognized for their work and contribution to world safety and peace. Onward and upward ICAN~I and others will continue to do what we can within our own communities to help support the work that you do on our and your behalf. Congratulations ICAN and much love!
During the “cold war” confrontation between the allies of the US and the USSR, the world came to accept that the idea of using nuclear weapons was MAD-mutually assured destruction, and gave birth to the concept of world nuclear disarmament which took a few tentative steps. Unfortunately, the enthusiasm petered out with the demise of the Soviet Union. Despite encouraging President Obama with the Nobel Peace Prize, world nuclear disarmament was never revived, possibly under the hope that no country would be mad enough to use them. Unfortunately, North Korean efforts to acquire them, ostensibly in response to the US annual military exercises with South Korea which NK regarded as preparation to overrun her, were surprisingly ridiculed over the years, and this might have driven the project to the stage now recognised as dangerous. Suddenly, nuclear weapons are back on the hot table, now as a commodity for threat and intimidation between two volatile heads of state, each with an enormous ego, involved in exchange of personal insults. This scenario might tempt one to press the pre-emptive launch button rather than face what he might perceive as international humiliation. In any case, no country can afford to have an enemy with nuclear bombs as such an adversary might allow a selected terrorist “steal” the bomb. This award should make us once again realise that, despite the underground bunkers and the store of foods and seeds nuclear powers have, violence never settles any quarrel and they will emerge from the bunkers only to continue! Universal nuclear disarmament is one of the crucial factors needed for the survival of Homo sapiens on earth. Congratulations to ICAN and to the Nobel organisation.
Thank you for this encouragement. We need human security, not nuclear insecurity. It is a crime for governments to continue to invest billions in military security, when we face so many social needs and environmental challenges.
And yet time and time again, the nobel peace price is regarded as an standpoint for the furture and a tool for peace. We saw that when the Colombian PM got the peace prize for his work to secure peace in a country where the cartel stil stands strong

Brilliant choice. Extremely important work to shine the international spotlight on. Bravo!
10 minutes silence for those people who thought Sheikh Hasina will win the noble prize.

Wonderful
Nuclear weapons should also win the Nobel Peace Prize. After WW2 only cold wars and trade wars happen because of the balance between nuclear powers.
_What a joke._
_The journalist who should get a peace prize is in a London prison cell waiting to be extradited to the United States._
This is an advance in peace management.
Hurra!
Who??????
It can be awarded to an organization
The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons.
Its an orgination to disarm nuclear weapons
kool
It's controversial!
Why you give this Nobel for peace if there is no peace in the world
Corrupt people
idk nobel prize is no needed its just boring no one cares about Nobel prizes
