Hmm, so that would be a quarter-tonner designed by Sparkman & Stevens. Quite a pretty little boat. Web records indicate some were built by Hughes Boatworks in Canada (where I sail). Was yours made in Europe?
Huh? A commission of Ernst Wedell-Wedellsborg, Danmark, professor Ljungberg, Sweden and engineer Steinback, Finland instructed ship builder Tord Sundén, who finished design and specifications. Thus was born the Nordic Folk Boat. Do you think the Viking Ships were made in Southampton?
Folkboat has high ballast to displacement ratio, does she not? Helps a boat stay on its' designed lines even in heavier winds. So many modern boats are sailed ' on their ear' which looks fast but is not fast.
Folkboats were popular race yachts In Estonia from 1960s to 80s. A book is written about it and the races were always interesting because the captains used sometimes car race tactics to win: covering, blocking, close following, wind cutting etc.
They are excellent sailors, two years ago I was overtaken by one. I was sailing a Contessa 26 and I was impressed. I also like the Rig configuration of the IF more (fractional)
Hi, the band/album is titled Veljeni Valas. Not available on digital platforms anymore (as downloadable version). Though, some other tunes available on UA-cam. If interested to buy as a CD, there are few copies left. In case, please contact: SaarikorpiBrom (on youtube) or: facebook.com/veljenivalas/
About 7 knots max, I used to have one and I once averaged 6.3 knots on a close reach from Cherbourg to the Isle of Wight a distance of about 50 nautical miles.
Some boats are designed to perform well in smooth sheltered waters, others, like the folkboat to perform well in the open sea. I have sailed many kinds of yachts and the folkboat is up there with the best in terms of speed, handling, and of course the ability to sail to windward.
The only thing wrong with this video is that it's too short! Love the sailing, sea, wind, sun,.. and the great music!
Don't let the looks fool you, Folkboat is a racing weapon despite 70 years old...
Who is fooled by the looks?
It's a dart on water!
First to the Finnish line! ;)
Good job. Beautiful

S&S?
It's a folkboat! The most influential design of the 20th century and it's Scandinavian!

Interesting.
absolutely -- on top of the high ballast ratio, the long keel makes her sail extremely stable: almost "on rails", I mean in a good way!

Faster than what?
Bluebird 25

Thanks for the vid. I have an opportunity to buy one and this has convinced me to jump in with both feet. Thankyou :)

Learn how to sail. Or better: Try to sail, once in your lifetime.
