Great project Matthew! I must say, you are rather productive these days. 3 motors would be super awesome, however I think 2 counter rotating props will give you the best airplane.
Hey Håvard, yea I've tried both ways on the props, didn;t make any difference at all! And for the videos, I have 5 ready to go in the backlog, holding back on them so not to flood the channel 😜
Looking forward to seeing if you can make it work. In the RCG thread everyone who's tried it has had takeoff / pitch issues. A mini clouds or mini twin dream would be an ideal plane.
Howdy fella, yea I am aware of that. I will put in some up thrust on the motors and make sure I am very careful on the launch. Thanks for letting me know though! 😀 Matt
Do a 3 prop setup! Have a folding prop on the rear motor. Then program the 3rd motor to only come on when 3/4 and above throttle for ballistic climbouts!
Nice. Was thinking about similar with mini quad motors (mainly because I have spares laying around and get that weight back further). My thoughts are don't mount the escs on the top surface (faster airflow and more chance to disrupt airflow etc). Those motor mounts, mount as close to the fuselage as possible (with + prop and gap)
Matthew Ogborne yeah was wondering if it mini quad motors would be enough grunt as well. But static motor tests I've seen seem promising. Although the high kv might not be that efficient though
Was also wondering if I could make the setup lighter/lower wing loading and could fly slower, that was the other thought behind it. Was also thinking Nano talon basically has a mini quad motor. Having 2 for the mini talon might work. But yeah really interested in how yours goes :) good luck, keep us updated
Like your Motor Pods Matt, very nice....Please, please, pretty please tell us you are going to put an F4 board and iNAV in it....Showing us how to set up the Tailerons!!!!!...I have a spare Mini Talon kit and an F4 just waiting to know how to do it. My Falcon and iNAV is absolutely wonderful, and RTL is a dream...:) BTW...Please dont put the ESCs on the wings...Fuz mount them, twisted wires to motors, keep it all aero.....RC receiver in the Tail instead of a motor..?...VTX and camera together in the front Pod..?
Howdy ET, ah ha thats my intention! The servo mix you need is on the iNav site, it should be copy & paste easy! Also fantastic news on the falcon. I was going to recess cut the ESC's, however you and James have brought this up, so maybe just put them in the fuse and be done with it instead! Matt
Oh, right...ok....well good...I would recess them into the Fuz sides where the wing meets the Fuz keep em cool and you can get to them later if need be...One of the reasons the Talon is so good is because it has very low drag....I think you should also look to make a nice streamlined Camera Pod too...?
Hi Matt, can you get rocket engines in UK? that hole in the tail is badly in need of one! Trigger it with a spare rc channel and hold on! Guarantee you will break your current speed record.
Hi Matt. Is it possible for you to print a couple of these motor mounts? I am prepared to pay for them. I can't warrant getting a 3D printer just for them.
Howdy Van, you can have the two orange ones I have here for free if you want them? Just pay the postage and they're yours. Hit me up in the FB group as it'll be easier, matt
Fiber glass is stronger than carbon fiber. People use carbon fiber for it's light weight. But when weight is not an issue, and evern when money is no object, people would choose glass fiber, like in boat making.
Great Idea Matth, performing flat spins with the mini talon :-)
Jelle, lol I hadn't even thought of that!

looks like i'm off to grow some carrot mounts.. i mean MOTOR mounts XD
Good stuff Matt, big fan already!
Yay, thanks Onno!

Extend the power leads and bolt the ESCs to either side of the fuse, minimise any disturbance to the airflow over, and under, the wings.
Howdy James, I was going to recess the ESC's in and then cover them with lam, all bar the heatsink to keep them as clean as possible, Matt

Hahahhahahaha I hadn't considered that, the 3rd motor just for the upper thrust range, that would defo help with launches, Matt
I am inspired ... now I know I don't need to 3D print motor mounts, I can just carve them out of couple of carrots
LOL!

Hey Len, yea you're now the 3rd person to suggest that, the ESC's will be in the fuse area instead :) Matt
PS. Yea not sure on quad motors for this model, it's quite big so needs decent sized motors to get her going.
Matthew Ogborne yeah was wondering if it mini quad motors would be enough grunt as well. But static motor tests I've seen seem promising. Although the high kv might not be that efficient though

Hi Matt.
After owning both twin and single motor mini talons.
Which would you say is best.
Howdy Chris, for LOS, the twin, it was nuts, esp with the 3rd motor on the back. General FPV, the single rear motor is best. Matt

Lol that would be nuts. Not sure how well rockets and foam go together though :/

Still waiting on my servos from Bangood ffs....great price on that mini talon, I might just treat myself.....again
Howdy Stephen, I know it's nuts isn't it. Are you waiting on some Tower Pro MG910S servos as well then?
Matthew Ogborne yes mate
Matthew Ogborne servos landed this morning, happy days. I'm really fighting the urge to buy those eachine goggles, I need a pair for fpv anyway....
just set the nuts in the printed parts using a soldering iron, the'll melt in and be retained.
Howdy Wayne, I pushed them in with a pair of pliers and gave them a dose of CA to keep them in. Should be enough :) Matt

Hey Matt can we get the stl files?
Howdy Shane, yes the links are in the video description, press SHOW MORE above to see the full description, Matt
3 motors :)
Thats the spirit!
