So much respect for those women and for this culture, they kept their hardwork and tradition and added the education as every country should. Not like us in Europe forgetting where we came from and only study for being well paid or making a career.
I just recently discovered your channel , your videos are awesome and definitely show the real Colombia and all that entails ! it’s good to see strangers vibing considering the state of World, it’s makes me a little more hopeful , Thanks again Brotha and have a Happy New Year 🙏🏻
We europeans are loosing our traditions and continue to loose them, due to frenatic lifestyle. This is due (according to me) to greedyness, and thinking i am better then others and many more. We have almost every thing but in the end we doun't have love ,kindness as they have. Well done Tim my compliments. 👏👍❤
I cried at the end when I saw that incredible wall painting depicting the old culture of no education with the blindfolds on and today’s culture with the children pointing at the photo. The photo being held by the teacher in the painting was of reproductive organs. So so telling.🙏❤️
This was such a great video Tim. What an amazing culture and so much hard work involved in their clothing. Good for you for supporting the locals too, much respect bro. I'd love to visit that village one day, looks amazing
I'M GUATEMALAN AND I HAVE A GOOD FRIEND FROM GREECE., HE'S MY FRIEND FOR MORE THAN TWENTY YEARS....JONNY ARGIROPOULOS IS HIS NAME.... GREETINGS MY FRIEND AND WELCOME TO GUATEMALA 👍......🇬🇹💙🇬🇹
The first export from Guatemala were two dyes a tree from the Caribbean coast...the Spanish brought Caribbean Black slaves to cut the trees and those trees were a natural dye shipped to Europe. The second export dye came from around the highlands beetles that were ground up to make a brilliant red natural dye...it was EXTREMELY valuable..the women would pick the beetles from the leaves of Nopal cactus....also shipped to Europe in powdered form.
It was an honour to see your workshop and learn how you create your amazing textiles in the traditional ways. I love that you support the talented women who make the clothes and write their name in the label. I hope to visit one day in future and buy something there. You are doing important work. I wish you much success. Blessings from England 🙏
Very incredible. This still changes the way a person understands the world, how are you going to be different when you're back in Greece. It'll be hard to forget all of this, no?
Yea my friend that so true. If traveling does one thing for sure to everyone with no exceptions - is to change people perspectives!! Always and forever and no matter the country we are visiting 🙏🏼 We learn- we understand and we grow!
What a great experience. . I. Enjoy. seeing the. Real people. Of. The world thru. Your. Adventures, I went to Greece twice when I was younger. I was in Guatemala City and Guatemala Antigua in the mid 1980. I worked for the US Department of Defense and traveled through out Latin America. I saw the weaving done by hand. I'm not sure if the demonstration I saw was in Antigua or Guatemala City. Very interesting country as it has a number of tribes and they are recognizable by their clothing styles and colors. I saw the Quetzal when I was there. A gorgeous bird with beautiful plumage.
Timmy, I'll know you are busy drinking beer and flirting with the girls, nothing wrong with that,I love watching your interaction with everyone, you fun to watch, keep letting us know about different cultures. 😊👍
They're teaching English to the children in school, the children pass off the teachings to other members of the family. There's also the infinite amount of youtube videos, movies, music, e-books on the internet so learning languages is far easier than say 30+ years ago.
Nice video Bro.. and also mention a exact place o landmark to find those shops. Because some People will to therre and take those clothes. It may help help them to make more and money for children school or colleges. So must mention the land mark in every videos
The tribal people of North East India have similar traditional veeving technique and using bird feathers in the head gear like Red Indians, have similar body features. It's mind boggling.
Timmy Please make a ebook with all this places information like address phone numbers that people can call to set up a visit! And of course sell tbe ebook once your work so hard to make this videos! 👍🙏👊
Timmy you were setup a bit. 'Tour guides' will eagerly direct you to their 'friends' where you can spend your money on stuff. Having said that, the Guatemalans are amazing craftsmen. Some textile designs go back to Mayan times, and apparently the women's blouses can indicate what village they're from, and whether they're married I think, (Guatemalans online could correct me if I'm wrong.) Some of the better craftsmen are very good indeed - worldclass. I saw a woodcarver in Santiago Atitlan (another village around that lake) working on a carving that was unreal. Textiles are a specialty. In Antigua, there's a whole industry of jade polishing and jewelry for the tourists. I remember chatting with a gem cutter there, talking shop about jade polishing methods... Walking out of the store, the owner said something to us. I asked my companion what the guy said: "Oh he offered you a job, if you want to come back and make jewelry." Great people, a beautiful country. I hope to visit you guys again some day. Salud, de los Estados Unidos!
I don't think it was a set up, its business nothing wrong with that. Its o.k. if friends help each other out, they are doing a great service to those unfamiliar with the region. As you can hear Tim say, he didn't know where to go when he ran into the boat man who said he'll take him to another part. That's when the other man offered him the tour which was an unbelievable experience to see...all for $10. It was worth twice as much. Cheers!
It wasn’t worth it - they were mostly just selling chocolates - 😫hahah but I made a video with a mayan doctor massage therapist- haha i ll post it another day
so according to a currency conversion that piece you picked up @ 16:15 was roughly like $90? dang i feel only tourist with money are buying the items from that shop but maybe im wrong?
The scarf price...looked like 700 to me but it didnt have the horizontal slash so likely it was actually a 1. so 100q ...SO MORE LIKELY 14 to 15 USD...quite alot to him when he is buying $2 breskfasts.
@@K2195_ Mayan clothing is very expensive, even for locals. They make their own which turns out to be cheaper. The blouse that they wear is around 150 US dollars
lol, I could have told him that about the choco bread, they sell these things all around the world and so many people get caught out..... that guy was drunk, and he wanted money... timmy dear boy you are lucky to be alive..

Wonderful video my friend I’m a Guatemalan leaving in USA …
My family is from Yucatán and have a lot of Mayan influence like the Guatemalan’s they remind me of my family.
Annatto seed (Bixa orellana) and logwood (Haematoxylum campechianum) make for excellent dyes!
I'm addicted! Thanks for the awesome videos! If you ever make it to Louisiana, USA, please look us up! (Lafayette, LA)
