Alright, I’m invested in your story. Lmao. I’ve got a little over 4 years of working experience as a developer. If you want any help or to chat about anything, HMU. Love that you take chances and move around. I moved from KC to Seattle, now on the east coast and the experiences are priceless.
In the same boat dude. Worked a bunch of different jobs over the years while in school I got bachelors degree in Business Admin CIS graduated 2023. Went back to community college to study Electrical and Computer Engineering but I feel like I'm wasting my time. Applied to over 2000+ applications. Dont drink, party, or do drugs, still can't find work. Its rough out here lol. Only thing to do is keep on pushing.
I'm glad to see your perspective because I graduated in computer science on May 2024 with no internships because I did not know what I wanted to do throughout university 😅. However, now I want to get into tech because I did some projects after graduation(nothing crazy but good experience nonetheless) and I actually enjoyed doing them. Been applying with no results but your dedication and hardwork is very motivating to keep on going no matter what. Finish what you started so to speak. With your work ethic you will accomplish this hurdle this year! Good luck dude!
Likewise! Wishing the best of luck to you as well. I’m just one of many facing this issue. I’ve known someone who did 1,000 applications in a month and ended up landing something. Things now aren’t what they were 4-6 years ago. Don’t feel discouraged
In this market - "First come, first serve" is basically the theme for looking for work in Tech. If you're not within the first 10 people to apply....you're done for. Luckily I still have my job in tech and i'm currently learning AI...If you can't beat them, join them. Best of luck man, I been in your shoes.
Invest in soft skills and networking. I mean - you might improve your communication skills and the flow of your speech. I think this might be less obvious blocker. I have noticed that in many cases this os critical part of hiring process
This job market is so screwed up. You're not the only one. I'm a senior in college and I'm about to graduate hopefully in a year and my prospects don't look any better than anyone whos worked for 10+ years. Thats ridiculous.
Have you thought about switching your focus more towards IT? Like even if you have to start at Help Desk, you got your foot in the door. And you can work your way up that ladder eventually maybe getting into cybersecurity. But if you spent some time to get a few certifications I find it hard to believe you wouldn’t get an entry level position especially with all the experience you have.
I applied for a few but just get denied with no reasoning (even with a CISCO CCNA certification). I’m going to try more of them because I think that’s the safest route. My CCNA is expired so maybe that’s why, but I can always go through it again.
@@TrapDeer I just feel like cracking a software development job with your degree would be insanely difficult, especially cause you’re a couple years removed. Whereas IT you are kinda the perfect candidate. Yes getting your CCNA would definitely be beneficial to you. Idk that’s just my thought process if your still set on software development then keep at it, it is just gonna be far more difficult to get into.
@ I appreciate the input. I'm going to give it another spin at applying for IT based jobs, but surprisingly the results have been less there than WebDev / AI roles where I atleast land an interview
@@TrapDeer fyi the resume you use when applying for IT positions should be VERY different to your dev resume. It should be a lot easier for you to get into helpdesk than a Dev role.
Maybe go for ERP Consulting, Salesforce/SAP/Microsoft Key Account or Product Management. I feel like that's the scope for your degree and not as technical competitive.
Yea - not opposed - I just feel like I should’ve done that closer to when I graduated than now, as I’m about 6 years removed from University and don’t remember much of SAP and ERP systems. I definitely can pick it back up but been more time invested with CS and such.
My goal is that in 30 days I build something worth people to pay for or to land a job. Doing everything in my power to make it happen these next 30 days. More so than ever
Yep - that’s why I’m doing this 30 day study plan to refine my skills to be better prepped and maybe handle technical interviews better or make something worthwhile.
i'm qualified for like 3 jobs (media production, music, linux administration) but i have ADHD and the job seeking process sucks for me cause i feel like i have to lie to even get a chance.
@@ragama623 You generally don't want to tell an potential employer about a disability although generally its considered good because most business want to employ at least whatever % of with disabilities but the true matter of fact is that it puts you a tier lower than everyone else.
Since you're so passionate about music. Have you thought about applying to jobs that incorperate music? Like Plugin development or something like that. You could combine both of the things you like to do.
I applied for some - however when it comes to actual audio plugin development it’s mostly C++ coding which I’m not comfortable with yet. Wouldn’t be opposed to learning but the journey of learning it to employment wouldn’t be quick.
Building out my networking more now. I've gotten 2 interviews through referrals, one said "no" after 2 rounds since they didn't believe I worked with Next JS as much as they wanted. Second one - no clue, they went ghost after I gave a market rate price point for compensation, and even opened it up for negotiations. I followed up like 3-4 times to just never hear back. Market rate for the job is $125-150k, I mentioned that, and said I'm willing to work around 115-130, however I was open for other price ranges based on various healthcare benefits (if they could only afford 90k but provided good health insurance I would've been willing to accept).
Like I mentioned, my degree was CMIS - not typical CS degree. So DSA wasn’t a class but rather like production line management systems, SAP, network management, security networking and Java OOP and Mobile Development. Was a weird combination but essentially didn’t get key CS classes which I regret now.
Not sure - don't think it's likely I've had quite a few people review it and narrowed it down from 10+ versions. I get interviews occasionally but getting interviewed for the wrong roles mostly. Roles I'm fit for never reach out or ghost me after a few rounds of interviews.
Yep. I don’t recommend Python or JavaScript at this point for new aspiring developers. Jobs I’ve seen posted have been - .NET, Golang, Java, C#, C++. Those are probably the most common ones in corporate America that you may have a chance in as opposed to the Python, JavaScript, Typescript based roles. None will be easy but I guess the less flashy language the better

I know I dont understand the comment issue. I appreciate the comment. I wish you the best of luck on your job search. It’s brutal. When I broke up with my Ex I was also transitioning out of music and it was killing me as well.
