The Gen8 V2 International® Scout II is a highly competitive professional rock crawler that includes many performance features such as: C-channel frame rails, low center of gravity battery tray, centrally mounted divorced transfer case, lockable slipper clutch, portal axles with metal gear covers, MOD-1 gears, machined aluminum spools, front CVAs, 32 rubber-sealed ball bearings, threaded aluminum shocks, 47º steering blocks with proper Ackerman, Panhard bar, LED-ready bumpers, winch-ready front bumper, and frame mounted floor pans.
The Gen8 V2 features a highly detailed fully licensed International® Scout II body, hard plastic grill, plastic folding mirrors, molded inner and outer fenders, shackle mount front bumper, receiver hitch ready rear bumper, and plastic rock sliders. Axe has a lot of upgraded electronics but yeah this Gen8 V2 looks great and its sturdy ... you can use this body on your Axe! Ill put the HobbyWing Fusion in it this weekend

I have the first version and my first crawler and love it,I livevin Maine and had it out in the snow everyday for the past month does really good on compact snow.sorry don't mean to ramble.Shows is steering geometry compared to the V1 .

Did you turn your throttle rate down to get that low-speed control? Great control. Were you on 2s or 3s?
It’s the HobbyWing QuicRun Fusion 1800kV … in this video the throttle is at 100% but later I’ve turned it down to even below 50% depending … thanks brother 🤝

may I ask what your thoughts of the new version are? Did you ever have the first version? if so how much better is the v2?
Yes I have the 1st version and have a vid on it. The bump steer and belly bump is gone on the V2, it's firmer ... to me it's much improved. The 1st had a spare tire, the 2nd does not. Both have the same electronics.

I love my gen 7 sport. When the price lowers eventually on the Gen 9, I'm ordering one. I want all metal gears, I think the gen 8 gears are metal, not sure.

Happy Thanksgiving brother! If this is your first rig then go with the TRX4 Sport ... It's easier to drive and maintain. But the Gen8 you get a lot for the money and it makes you work for the drive!

I wonder how did it survive the contact with the salt water? Anything rotted away immediately? This was one beautiful crawl... Had Francis (from RC Review) in my ear "this thing cant sidewall"... he should watch you drive :-D Nice one!
Not a thing rotted or worn, we wash them down, WD40 everything and, grease joints after every run -been crawling in salt water for years w the same rigs, no issues. Thanks man appreciate it ... this rig sure can sidewall

What batteries do I need to buy for this crawler? Are they on the red cat website?

Ricky, I've heard a lot of people saying that this needs a better ESC/Motor/Radio to crawl and modulate better but looking at this video, I don't think it needs any urgent upgrades out of the box.
This is box stock right?
It’s good out of the box AND I did end up changing out the motor/esc to the HobbyWing Fusion and changed the controller/receiver to the FkySky GT5 that came with the Gen8 Axe

Try the motor first, HobbyWing QuicRun Fusion FOC System (2in1), it's brushless so will last and has the ESC built in. Then after that, you can get either the FlySky GT5 and Ive heard others mention the Dumbo RC x6 which is cheaper

Love the redcats curious though why people would want clear windows when there is no interior. I liked the smoked windows from the gen 7. Awesome video.

Is there specific brand battery you recommend?
I’ve been using the same lipo battery for least two years .. lectron pro 11.1v 5200mAh 50c ... over 2 hours of run time. It comes with a Deans plug ... just make sure you pick the right battery for your RC

If I was to buy one right now would it not have the bump on the bottom like yours because I heard that was a big problem
There's no bump on the bottom of the V2s ... I have the first Gen8 and this second version is different

Does the salt water mess with it in anyway?
No thankfully. I wash them down after every run and WD40 the whole rig ... I have lots of vids, been taking these rigs out on the beach for years, no issues, no problems, no rust
@@RickysGarageVibes try not to let it "airdry", wipe it as dry as possible. The wd40 is a brilliant move. I'm an old sheet metal worker, we use all kinds of acids on different metals, and no matter how much it's washed with soap or any other cleaner and diluted with water, it has got to be wiped dry. And then we always spritzed on some wd40. They have the wd40 in 1gal containers and we use a smaller generic spray bottle, better control of how much we're spraying.
I wonder if Red Cat will release a Scout II Gen8 Axe Edition V2 eventually... I'd buy that in an instant, even if it's $549.

Actually this is not right out of the box and run. I read in other comments that it has an upgraded motor in it to get that low speed control. So basically you end up spending a lot more than just the base price of the truck. That’s unfortunate because I was expecting a review of actually right out of the box… I understand the upgrade is better and that’s fine, but it makes for a very inaccurate review of “the first run” to the viewer who if a novice will think this is all stock equipment which it’s not. I also understand the stock motor is apparently not too good, however, that’s what the viewer needs to see for better understanding. Then swapping the motor and seeing the difference is fine so the viewer can get an even better understanding of the products utilized in the video. Don’t get me wrong I appreciate the video, but feel it’s a little misleading.
We deliberately didn’t say this is stock or right out of the box, intentionally. We had the Gen8 “V1” and knew the motor had to change. Also consider we’re going out as a family and the beach is a good drive away which is why we unboxed and made the changes we needed for a good run all in one outing. But I get and appreciate your point Dave and I’ll be more specific in future
Also, we were transparent about the changes so hopefully it’s clear we had no intention of misleading. We’re unboxing another Gen8 V2 to show all of the other mods we made since and from your comment, I’ll run it straight out of the box so people can see how it runs before and after mods
Thanks for the understanding. I really like this crawler and plan to get one for myself. And yes I do expect to go brushless as well for that incredible smoothness you’ve demonstrated here. I’m 54 and have a bit of experience in Nitro RC aviation and I am just joining the crawler brigade now and doing my homework for that first one. But I’m sold on this crawler even more now thanks to people like you. 👍🏼
